Germany’s house of Lords has approved legislation to further restrict tobacco advertising, Xinhua reported.

The legislation, which will take effect in 2021, will restrict advertising of different tobacco or new tobacco products in stages: movies will not be allowed to advertise tobacco products, nor will they be allowed to distribute free samples outside exclusive stores; from 2022, outdoor advertising of traditional tobacco products will be banned; from 2023, the ban will include the addition of burning products; in 2024, the ban will be banned Including electronic cigarettes.

Germany is the only EU country that still allows tobacco advertising in public places.

“Many studies have shown that tobacco advertising increases the attractiveness of tobacco products, especially among children and young people,” said Klaus Reinhardt, President of the German Medical Association.

The ban aims to protect public health and the health of young people.
