Wondery Releasing ‘The Vaping Fix’ Podcast Targeting Juul Labs

An investigative podcast by a studio owned by Amazon’s music streaming business is preparing to release a podcast about the rise and fall of Juul Labs.

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Showbiz news publication Deadline.com announced that the creators behind the Dr. Death podcast serial is getting a spinoff to cover the rise and fall of Juul Labs. According to the report, the creators are launching The Vaping Fix podcast.

Wondery, the studio behind the podcast that’s owned by Amazon Music, announced the show with a partnership with award-winning journalist Laura Beil, which will tell the inside story behind the rise of vaping and how Juul went from a Stanford student’s project to curb the smoking habits to a multibillion-dollar company that may have hooked to a new generation.

Deadline reports that the podcast will “tell the tale of two young Silicon Valley entrepreneurs set out to rid the world of smoking with a new product.” The reports include the Juul device “stands to disrupt the tobacco industry and make them rich until it falls into the wrong hands and lives are ruined. From classrooms to hospitals, boardrooms to the Oval Office, what can be done to protect teenagers, and is it too late?”

Beil will serve as the writer and reporting host for The Vaping Fix podcast. Beil is also known for her awards and critical acclaim for her work behind Dr. Death — the story behind Christopher Duntsch who killed two people while working as a doctor in Dallas-Fort Worth, in Texas — and the show Bad Batch — which takes to task the stem cell industry.

The Vaping Fix podcast is expected to release to the internet in the coming weeks (about mid-May). Even if you think the podcast will be more of a screed against vaping as a whole, I recommend the listen from a highly credible and award-winning journalist to learn things even I didn’t know. I will be listening.
