The Vaping Trend
There’s no mistaking it. Vaping has become popular, and with it the devices that are used to vape. In fact, Oxford Dictionary named ‘vape’ its word of the year for 2014. Whether you vape or you’re looking to get into it, vape pens are a great place to start, particularly for the uninitiated.
The vaporizer industry has jumped from a $1.7 billion dollar industry in 2014 to $2 billion in just one year. The global market was valued at about $14.05 billion in 2018 and is predicted to reach a total value of $67.31 billion by the year 2027. It’s more discreet and more “green” – no pun intended. Whether you are smoking dry herb, wax, or concentrates, a vape pen is easily carried around and easily acquired – many head shops, dispensaries, and even tobacco shops now carry them.
Vaping vs. Smoking
Vape pens also emit no smoke – only vapor – and thereby decrease the tell-tale smell of smoking marijuana. If you aren’t lucky enough to live in one of the states that has legalized the recreational use of marijuana, this is definitely a plus.
There are other advantages to vaping over smoking besides being discreet and easily carried around in a pocket. When you smoke marijuana, you are utilizing combustion – fire – which effectively incinerates the active ingredients (THC) in the cannabis. Light up a joint and you’ll be ingesting 88% non-cannabinoids. Compare that to vaping, where 95% of what you inhale are active cannabinoids. This translates to savings – you’ll need to smoke much less because you’re getting more of the active chemicals that make your high or relieve pain.
Many who formerly used joints, blunts, or glass pipes to smoke cannabis admit that vaporizing feels better on their lungs. They also like that the obvious smell is almost not even present. However, some claim that the vaporizing high feels more mild when compared to other methods of combustion.
What are Vape Pens
You might be wondering just what a vape pen is and how it works.
Typically, a vape pen comes in three pieces: a rechargeable battery, a tank or atomizer for holding e-liquid, concentrates, or dry herb, and a mouthpiece. All three detach from one another for easy cleaning and maintenance.
When you press the power button, the battery goes into action, heating the e-liquid, concentrate, or dry herb, and then releases the vapor through the mouthpiece as you inhale. Vape pens are reusable and highly customizable – some even offer temperature options that allow you to customize your vaping experience. Parts will occasionally need to be replaced.
Vape Pens vs. Vape Mods. vs. Desktop Vaporizers
In general, vape pens and mods are very similar, except that a mod box tends to be a little larger than a vape pen. They do tend to be a bit more expensive than the pen, and are really only recommended for the experienced vaper. That said, they are also highly customizable to suit personal tastes and needs.
Desktop vaporizers are just that. They are meant to be used inside or where there is a stable surface for the device to sit upon. They can be easily transported, but are designed specifically for home use. They are also the most expensive options when it comes to vaporizing.
Vape pens are among the most popular devices sold for cannabis consumption. They rank close with glass pipes, even outselling them in some markets. A vape pen is a good device to carry with you if you want to remain discreet, get the most out of your high, and more importantly, some studies suggest that it may be healthier than combustion methods.
Happy Vaping!
