The aim of this measure is to protect children and address environmental concerns. However, there has been opposition from e-cigarette retailers in the UK, with some shop owners criticizing this plan.
Andrew Connellan, the owner of an e-cigarette shop in the UK, has argued that banning these products would only fuel the growth of a black market, driving sales underground. He also pointed out that the history of Prohibition in the United States not only failed to solve the “alcohol” problem but rather made it more complex.
“I have never seen a product that has made so many people quit cigarettes.”
Disposable e-cigarettes are being sold in a variety of vibrant colors and enticing sweet flavors, such as pink lemonade, gummy bear, and watermelon. Some argue that this marketing strategy is targeting minors under the age of 18. However, Connell maintains that their stores have implemented age restriction signage and have provided thorough training to their staff members, enabling them to effectively recognize counterfeit identification cards.
Kohnellan acknowledged that the detriment disposable e-cigarettes pose to the environment is an irrefutable issue, given their tendency to be discarded after just one day of use. However, he also asserted that this very fact underscores the necessity of promoting e-cigarettes that are designed for sustainable, long-term usage.
