The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment said the number of young adults has declined for the first time in years. In a survey shared by the department, 16 percent of high school students said they used e-cigarettes, down from 26 percent in the 2019 survey.
The survey also showed that tobacco use fell to 3 percent, half of what it found in the 2019 survey.
New policies such as raising the age requirement to buy tobacco products to 21, raising taxes on vaping products and requiring retailers to obtain business licenses are among the reasons for these changes.
“Data show that students are increasingly aware of the dangers of smoking and vaping, and more students believe it is wrong for parents and neighbours to believe that teenagers are smoking and vaping,” CDPHE said in a release.
