According to the website of the Macao SAR Government, on the afternoon of April 13, a Taiwanese male passenger arrived at Tai Chai passenger terminal by passenger ship from Hong Kong International Airport. He entered Macau via green channel (without declaration channel). He was intercepted by the customs officers of the terminal because his carry-on luggage contained more than 10,000 HNB products.

When the passenger was intercepted by the Customs Officer stationed at the Tai Chai Passenger Terminal, the X-ray machine images showed that the Customs Officer suspected that there was a large amount of cigarettes in his luggage. He then inspected one suitcase and two backpacks of the passenger and found 70 pieces of 14,000 heated HNB cigarettes with a total value of about HK$15,000.

The man claimed that the goods were purchased from Japan and were for his own use. However, the Macao Customs has prosecuted the person concerned in accordance with the Foreign Trade Law.

Once fined, the Department may impose a fine of 5,000 to 100,000 Macao dollars, and the goods seized will also be declared to be owned by the Macao Special Administrative Region. Macao Customs emphasizes that it will continue to intensify efforts to combat smuggling of cigarettes.
