The West Indian Tobacco Company Limited (WITCO) is expanding its market presence by introducing Vuse Go disposable vape products, targeting adult nicotine consumers. This move was announced during a special event at WITCO’s Champs Fleurs office.
New Vaping Options for Adult Consumers
Raoul Glynn, Managing Director at WITCO, emphasized that the introduction of Vuse Go products caters to the evolving preferences of consumers seeking alternative nicotine consumption methods. These products, he mentioned, offer a reduced risk alternative compared to traditional combustible cigarettes, which could appeal to health-conscious smokers.
Scientific Insights on Vaping
Dr. Carolina Garcia-Canton, the Global Scientific Regulatory Manager at British American Tobacco (BAT), WITCO’s parent company, provided a scientific backdrop to the product launch. She explained that Vuse products, being smokeless, do not involve combustion, thereby reducing the risk associated with traditional smoking. According to Dr. Garcia-Canton, these products contain 99% fewer toxicants compared to cigarette smoke, highlighting the potential health benefits of switching from smoking to vaping.
Product Details and Availability
The Vuse Go 700 and Vuse Go 3,000 models—non-rechargeable and rechargeable, respectively—will be available in Trinidad and Tobago. Starting Monday, these products will be distributed in all Massy Stores, with expectations to expand to 300 retail outlets nationwide within the first month.
Flavor Options and Safety Measures
Initially, local consumers will have a choice of five flavors, though the product line includes over 20 different flavors. WITCO is taking measures to ensure these products do not fall into the hands of teenagers, addressing concerns about youth vaping.
Environmental Considerations
In response to environmental concerns, WITCO has also implemented a take-back scheme to prevent used devices from ending up in landfills, demonstrating a commitment to sustainability.
