Redwood, California prohibits the sale of e-cigarettes

Share

According to foreign reports, at a recent meeting, the Redwood City Council of California unanimously passed a ban on the sale of flavored e-cigarettes and other tobacco products.

The regulation also prohibits the sale of all e-cigarettes and e-smoking equipment, and prohibits all pharmacies from selling tobacco products that do not meet the conditions of the tobacco retailer’s license.

The regulation does provide an exemption for enterprises holding tobacco retailer licenses to sell flavored tobacco for on-site hookah consumption, provided that the enterprise operates and is licensed before November 22, 2021.

This rule does not allow exemption from transfer or transferable to subsequent owners of the business.

Together with eight cities in San Mateo County and more cities throughout the state and the country, the city banned the health effects of flavored tobacco products, especially on young consumers. Similar decrees were passed by Burlingame, East Palo Alto, half moon bay, Menlo Park, Portola Valley, San Carlos, San Mateo and South San Francisco.

On October 28, 2019, the city council instructed the staff to study and draft a decree to consider banning flavored tobacco and e-cigarettes, imitating the decree of San Mateo County.

High quality cigars in the regulations are no exception. The ban will enter into force on April 1, 2022. Meanwhile, the statewide legislation prohibiting the sale and distribution of flavored tobacco products (sb 793) is currently suspended until the voting results of the election on November 8, 2022.
