ZOVOO Z700 GT Dragbar Disposables Review

0

By now ZOVOO is a household name – as far as vaping goes – standing firm alongside some of the most iconic brands at the top of the industry.

And these disposables are tangible proof as to why…because the brand continues to deliver high-quality products time and time again.

Z700 GT Dragbar Specifications:

  • Battery capacity: 380mAh
  • E-liquid capacity: 2ml
  • Nicotine content: 20mg/ml

The Z700 GT Dragbar devices include a 380mAh battery, 2ml of liquid and lasted around 700 puffs – fairly standard for a disposable – but it’s the expansive range of flavours where the product starts to shine.

For this review I tried a handful of ZOVOO’s flavour offerings; here’s how they all faired:

Strawberry Shake

If you’re a fan of creamy flavours this ultra-smooth and luxurious vape might just be the one for you.

As you’d expect from the name, the flavour on display here is strawberry milkshake and it’s a damn good one!

The strawberries tasted lovely and fresh and the milkshake was like a super thick, mega creamy shake from your favourite ice cream spot.

I highly recommend this bar to anyone who likes a nice, sweet dessert vape or those fruit lovers who are on the hunt for something a little different.

Lemon Lime

Lemon Lime is a citrus number that offers a great contrast to the previous bar…not to mention that it’s real triumph of flavour (in my humble opinion anyway).

Of course the name doesn’t leave much to the imagination, so I’m sure you know what to expect from this one, but it is extremely well done.

The lemon and lime flavours tasted very authentic and were a match made in heaven.

The liquid was sharp and sour with some subtle sweeter notes that kept it from being too mouth-puckering.

This flavour was really smooth and easy to vape for extended periods of time, so keep an eye out for this one if you like your citrus.

Blueberry Raspberry

It’s fair to say that blueberry raspberry flavours are the kings of the disposable market, with many companies boasting their own interpretation…but ZOVOO’s is definitely a standout offering.

This flavour hit all the beats you’d expect, blending sweet blueberries with fresh, tart raspberries.

The contrast of sweet and sour was wonderful and made this yet another ZOVOO flavour that’s super easy to vape.

While there are similar flavours on the market, this is one of the best versions I’ve tried and I urge you to give it a go.

Watermelon Strawberry

This was yet another classic fruit combo and another fantastic example of how to do things correctly!

So many times I’ve used a strawberry-based flavour and been disappointed by the synthetic taste and the same can be said for watermelon liquids as well.

Both of the fruits here tasted vibrant and juicy, with neither flavour overpowering the other instead working together to create a harmonious fruity burst.

I think I saved the best until last here as this bar absolutely blew me away in terms of flavour.

Is Secondhand Vaping Something to Be Concerned About

0

Introduction

Since the discovery that smoking can lead to diseases such as lung cancer, people have become increasingly concerned about the effects of second-hand smoke on the people around smokers. “Second-hand smoke” refers to the smoke that bystanders near someone who is smoking may inadvertently inhale.

Now the world has been hit with a new nicotine trend in the form of vaping. Initially intended to ween nicotine addicts from the carcinogenic effects of cigarette smoke, vapes have taken the world by storm. They have been rapidly increasing in sales over the past ten years, in part due to the introduction of disposable vapes.

Is Secondhand Vapor Harmful as Secondhand Smoke?

The vaping trend has become an object of concern amongst people concerned with vapor’s long-term health effects. This has also resulted in people questioning whether ‘second-hand’ vapor may lead to negative health effects, much like second-hand smoke.

Workplace standards for exposure to inhaled chemicals and metals can be used to help answer the question of second-hand vapor. Scientists have used this information to determine that there are toxic constituents present in second-hand smoke, meaning there is a likelihood that second-hand vaping could be an object of concern.

What is Second-hand Vapor?

Following on from the same logic as second-hand smoke, second-hand vapor, which is actually a form of an aerosol, is the vapor exhaled into the atmosphere by the user of an e-cigarette. While both regular cigarettes and e-cigarettes typically include nicotine, the vapor from e-cigarettes differs from its cigarette counterpart due to the different types of ‘smoke’ they produce.

Cigarettes produce smoke through combustion. Therefore, any substance which is burnt with fire, such as leaves, wood, buildings, or plant material, produces volatile gasses, carcinogenic solid particles, carbon monoxide, and a mixture of dangerous byproducts. This is especially pertinent in tobacco since the intention of burning tobacco is usually to inhale it directly, hence the larger likelihood of cancer in smokers and those who inhale second-hand smoke.

What is released when you heat an e-liquid?

On the other hand, vapor from a vape is produced through heating an ‘e-liquid’ with a small metal coil housed in an atomizer. The heat turns this e-juice into vapor, which is what is released when the vaper exhales.

This e-juice contains nicotine, ultrafine particles, and various other toxins. The other toxins that are included are cause for concern in regard to second-hand vapor since these toxins include various agents which have been linked to causing cancer.

Who’s Most at Risk?

Since vaping is such a new phenomenon, there has not been enough time to assess the severity of second-hand vapor or the effects of vaping in general. To rather be safe than sorry, we should consider that vapor is potentially harmful to anyone due to the cancer-causing toxins which are used in e-liquid. Though second-hand vaping currently can’t be proven detrimental to others, we should concern others regardless.

In this spirit, the people most at risk of second-hand vapor are those who may have weak or underdeveloped bodies and lungs. Therefore, take good care when vaping that you are not around any infants and children, pregnant people, or people with lung conditions, as these would be the demographics who are likely to be most susceptible to the dangers of second-hand vapor.

Vape With Caution

In any case, since second-hand vapor or vaping, in general, has not had enough time in the market to be thoroughly studied, you should attempt not to have your vapor interfere with anyone you see. Unfortunately, there’s no clear indicator that a stranger may have an underlying condition that second-hand vapor might exacerbate, so it’s a good idea to vape cautiously to prevent undue harm to others.

If You Vape, Remember These Tips:

It’s a great idea to be aware of who you’re around when you’re vaping because there’s no information to determine whether your second-hand vape is harmful to others. However, you can adopt a few precautionary measures to ensure that you aren’t inadvertently harming someone in the act of vaping.

The first precautionary measure you should take is to vape outside. Vaping indoors, especially with people around, will mean that the vapor is in an enclosed space. This means it will be significantly more likely to be inhaled by people in a building or room since the toxins from your vapor will still purvey the air even if you may not be able to see it anymore.

Avoid Big Crowds and Children/Vulnerable People When Vaping Outside

If you decide to vape outside, also make sure you are not in a public place where lots of people will be around. Even in the open air, it’s extremely easy for someone to inhale your second-hand vapor by just walking past at the wrong moment.

Another precaution we highly recommend is to avoid vaping around children and other high-risk people. As we’ve outlined earlier, if the toxins from a vape really do have an adverse health effect, children, pregnant people, and those who have lingering conditions will be most susceptible.

Alternative Methods to Minimize Toxins

So always be aware of your surroundings when you are vaping to ensure that there is no one around that could come to harm from your second-hand vapor.

Outside of ensuring you’re not in an enclosed space or around high-risk individuals, there are ways to minimize the level of toxins in your vapor through your choice of vape products. Low or no-nicotine vape products will produce toxins much more minimally and will generally be safer to inhale. If you can, try to stick to these products instead of high nicotine vape juices which are sure to harm someone if inhaled.

You can also buy a vaping device with lower power and temperature. These vapes will produce less vapor because there is less heat applied to the coil. At lower power, your vape will produce a minimal amount of vapor which will have a smaller area in which someone would have to be in to inhale the second-hand vapor.

It’s always a good idea to keep the amount of vapor coming out of your vape to a minimum, as well as to make sure you aren’t in an enclosed space or around high-risk individuals. This way, you can significantly reduce the risk of having someone inhale your second-hand vapor.

Conclusion

While the data is contested as to whether second-hand vapor is categorically harmful to inhale, it’s best to proceed with caution. Current data on vaping is not sufficient to make a sound decision as to whether second-hand vapor is harmful or not since vaping is too new of a phenomenon to draw any conclusions from.

Since scientists have already established that there are toxic cancer-causing agents present in readily available nicotine e-juices, there is a high likelihood that inhaling second-hand vapor could be a harmful practice.

Take The Proper Precautions

This means that anyone who currently vapes should take good care to ensure that no one is inadvertently inhaling second-hand smoke as a result of a vaper using their e-juices near them.

This can be done by ensuring you vape in an open, non-public space and making sure there are no high-risk individuals present, such as children or people with lung conditions who second-hand vapor could harm. You can also opt for low nicotine or no-nicotine juices and use low power and temperature vapes.

A breath of fresh air to the question of quitting vaping

0

Depending where you’re coming from, there might be a variety of different answers to the question, “What are e-cigarettes for?” The original, still prevalent, one might say official, answer is of course: “To help people quit smoking.” Now, perhaps inevitably, comes a device that promises to help people quit vaping.

Just as the earliest e-cigs mimicked the look of traditional cigarettes, the Capnos Zero superficially resembles a vaping device. All it offers to deliver, however, is a shot of flavoured air. Zero smoke (or, indeed, vapour); zero nicotine; zero charge (electrical charge, that is, you’re not going to get the thing for free).

The premise is in fact, as the makers’ own publicity has it, “stupid simple”. It assumes that most vapers – and, they suggest, most smokers – have a behavioural addiction to the act of vaping (or smoking), an “oral fixation” rather than an actual physical addiction to nicotine. Or, as they say: “Sometimes, all we’re really craving is something to inhale or fidget with.”

This is undoubtedly true, to a greater or lesser extent, of a great many people – many of whom may well believe they have a nicotine addiction when really it’s just the habit and the paraphernalia that have them hooked. There’s really no telling how many people this applies to – certainly no way of verifying the assertion that it’s two out of three vapers – but for those it does, puffing on flavoured air may provide a satisfactory alternative.

An anonymous testimonial on the Capnos website claims: “Me & my roommate have been vaping for 3+ years and were shocked how similar the Capnos was to the sensation of hitting a vape.” We’ll have to take your word for it.

Warning bells

That word “roommate” may give away the type and age-group of people this is primarily aimed at – Capnos founder Brendan Wang is himself a youthful-looking student at Michigan State University.

The smaller print below admits: “This product may or may not help you quit vaping. Results vary by user.” Which is fair enough. And really what they are obliged to say.

A few of the claims made do ring a little tinkle of alarm, however.

Much as the makers of many vaping products tell their own stories of trying to quit smoking to explain the roots of their involvement, Wang says: “I struggled with vaping for 5 years…” (Did he struggle with combustible cigarettes first? He doesn’t say.)

The story becomes more contentious when he continues: “My friends started dying from vaping in late 2019, so I knew something had to be done.”

If this is true at all, then his friends and one wonders how many actual friends he’s talking about were victims of the highly publicised lung-injury outbreak of that year (EVALI), which we now know had nothing to do with conventional e-cigarettes and everything to do with cannabis vapes laced with vitamin E acetate. Wang must surely know this, which makes his story wilfully disingenuous at best.

The way the cookie crumbles

And then there’s the tricky question of that all-important flavour, the very thing that makes many e-cigs problematic.

Capnos says: “Our flavoring is made from all-natural, food-grade essential oils. (The stuff grandma makes her cookies with.)”

Well, that’s OK then “food-grade” must be perfectly safe, surely. Hang on, though. Vitamin E acetate is approved as safe too in food. In fact, it occurs naturally in many common and wholesome foods. But what’s safe to eat isn’t necessarily safe at all to inhale.

This is not to say that the Capnos Zero is unsafe. But to say that the flavourings are safe as food doesn’t tell you they’re “absolutely safe” to draw into your lungs.

We’re not about to proclaim the death of vaping. And no one around here is about to start inhaling grandma’s cookies.

Can E-Cigs Help You Quit Smoking? – Dinner Lady

0

With approximately 78,000 deaths in the UK every year from smoking-related illnesses, there are considerable risks associated with smoking tobacco products. And with smoking known as the biggest preventable cause of cancer, many smokers are looking for less harmful alternatives to tobacco products.

Declared 95% less harmful than tobacco products by Public Health England (PHE), e-cigarettes have become an increasingly popular option for those looking to switch away from cigarettes. Emerging evidence suggests that vaping and e-cigarettes support some of the highest smoking cessation rates.

What’s more, a recent NICE and PHE guideline aims to tackle the health burden of smoking by highlighting the efficacy of e-cigarettes as a cessation tool and by advocating for the proper distribution of advice on using vape products correctly.

WHAT ARE E-CIGARETTES?

E-cigarettes are devices which heat e-liquids to create a vapour, which allows nicotine to be inhaled. Traditional cigarettes and tobacco products burn tobacco to create smoke. Heated by a battery and passed through coil to create the vapour, e-liquids contain propylene glycol (PG), vegetable glycerine (VG), food-grade flavourings and nicotine. Because e-cigarettes create a vapour and not a smoke, they do not produce carbon monoxide or tar – two of the most harmful chemicals created when cigarettes are burned.

There are several types of e-cig available from disposable vape pens to pen-style devices, pod mods and box mods, meaning there is something for every preference and experience level.

CAN YOU QUIT SMOKING WITH E-CIGS?

The NHS promotes the use of e-cigarettes to help adult smokers quit – with a trial recently announced which will offer smokers attending A&E departments across the country e-cigs and cessation support. According to a 2019 study by University College London, between 50,000 and 70,000 smokers quit using e-cigarettes each year. Another study from that year shows that where only 9% of those using nicotine replacement therapies such as patches and gum managed to quit smoking completely within a year, over 19% of e-cig users were no longer smoking a year later.

Professor Kevin Fenton, the Director of Health and Wellbeing at PHE notes that “e-cigarettes are not completely risk free but when compared to smoking, evidence shows they carry just a fraction of the harm.” To reinforce this point, Professor Peter Hajek of Queen Mary University added that switching to e-cigs can help smokers “to remove almost all the risks smoking poses to their health.”

HOW DOES AN E-CIG HELP TO QUIT SMOKING?

The benefits of using e-cigs when looking for an alternative to cigarettes are twofold: e-liquids offer an alternative source of nicotine, and e-cigarettes support many of the habitual actions of a smoker.

Overall, the intended benefit of an e-cigarette is that it offers a replacement source of nicotine while targeting the most common habitual elements of smoking. E-cigarettes often contain Nicotine Salts e-liquids, which more closely match the way nicotine from cigarettes enters the bloodstream than freebase nicotine, thereby making the whole transition as effective as possible.

Many e-cigarettes are designed to resemble a cigarette in shape, style and weight to replicate the hand-to-mouth action that many smokers have become accustomed to. Most e-cigs are draw-activated, replicating the sensation of inhaling a cigarette. Even the process of exhaling the visual vapour created by e-cigs can help support a smoker in making the switch.

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF QUITTING SMOKING WITH AN E-CIG?

The main side effects of quitting smoking are a result of nicotine withdrawal.

The symptoms of nicotine withdrawal can be unpleasant, and include side effects such as:

  • Feeling irritable or jittery
  • Experiencing headaches
  • Increased sweating
  • Feeling sad, anxious or moody
  • Feeling tired or lethargic combined with trouble sleeping
  • Lack of concentration
  • Feeling hungry with intense cravings for cigarettes

Vaping has proven effective in supporting adult smokers to make the switch away from cigarettes because e-liquids offer an alternative nicotine supply. This, in turn, helps to ease the cravings and side effects associated with quitting cigarettes.

*Once an adult smoker has made the switch to e-cigarettes, they can reduce the nicotine strength of their e-liquid to suit their individual needs. Independent high street vape stores are an excellent resource in providing advice to support this journey.

CONCLUSION: WILL E-CIGS HELP ME QUIT SMOKING?

Research from UK health bodies such as PHE, NHS, NICE and Cancer Research show that e-cigarettes do have a positive impact on relieving the health burden of smoking.

To further clarify the confusion and misconception surrounding e-cigarettes and safety, PHE’s experiment highlights the impact of smoking conventional cigarettes compared to e-cigarettes:

In the investigation, PHE and leading quit smoking experts found that vaping with e-cigarettes as a cessation method is similar to using licensed nicotine products such as nicotine pouches and gum.

For further support and advice on switching to a less harmful alterative, it is always best to consult a medical professional. Support can also be found online from the NHS Smokefree service.

Geekvape’s Interview – Vaping Post

0

Q1. Hello, could you first tell us about the technology seminar by Geekvape?

A: Of course, on November 10, 2022, we held an online seminar on electronic cigarette technology with the theme “Leap further.” There are industry experts addressed the seminar’s four topics, that included user concerns, atomizer structural design, battery cells and chips, and future development. This is the link to it: https://youtu.be/OFD777x5qbQ

Q2.Geekvape focuses particularly on leakage problems concerning clearomizers. What are the main causes?

A: Nowadays, leaking problem has been greatly improved on the products among the leading brands. Applying certain technologies has managed to avoid the issue of leakage. For instance, at Geekvape, we use LSR high precision liquid silica rubber which has good sealing performance and high temperature resistance, and of course, top airflow design.

Q3.There was little difference conceptually between the top and bottom airflow designs. Why are you conducting this experiment?

A: Actually, Geekvape has been working on the top structure design for quite some time. This time around, we want to determine the difference using simulation experiments, and we were surprised to find that the airflow designs of both the top and bottom structures are smooth, and their air resistance appears to be the same. However, the top airflow design, has a higher thermal efficiency than the bottom airflow design, which enable it to completely vaporize the liquid, producing more cloud and an improved flavour. In addition to this, this structure’s architecture contributes significantly to preventing leakage.

Q4. Could you tell us about the lab experiment on the electric chip and core? Why do you carry out these tests? What does it accomplish to do this?

A: To start, I’d want to explain that vaping is a comprehensive experience. The atomizer and coil are crucial since they affect how flavorful the product will be. In the meanwhile, the chip and battery are crucial for maintaining a consistent flavour. So that’s why we wanna do a test to examine how the battery and chip impact your vaping experience.

Q5. How do you demonstrate that batteries and chipsets can enhance the vaping experience?

A: We asked our test center to find out how better chips and battery cells impact the user experience. The tester clarified that the flavour and atomization of the nicotine oil were both directly influenced by the device’s output voltage. The output voltage’s level and stability are therefore very important. It is demonstrated that the output stability of the Geekvape device is demonstrably superior to that of the other device by comparing the output voltage of other devices with the same atomization core resistance value, and that the overall device is more trustworthy. When using the same battery cell, Geekvape’s devices are also incredibly competitive in terms of chip output control.

Q6.What are your thoughts on the future of electronic cigarette technology?

A: As we all know, every day there are numerous new devices, such as ceramic coil, low-temperature heating, and super chip. It is encouraging to see that many businesses continues to innovate and make breakthroughs in its own fields.
However, I would like to highlight the fact that, referring back to the comprehensive experience. A success in certain technologies is insufficient, we need to intergrade each technical point so that people can actually perceive and optimise it.

Q7.Finally, at the seminar, you mentioned the “VPU.” Could you elaborate on this interesting concept?

A: Similar to what I have already emphasised, the vaping device is like a system. Just like a smartphone, it has its own core, which I shall refer to as the VPU, or vaping processing unit. The VPU regulates the device’s output. And it is able to manage the battery, control the temperature, and determine the optimal method of output, this is the VPU for the future market.

Will the popularity of Zovol outrace HQD disposable vape • VAPE HK

Will Zovol outrace the popularity of HQD disposble vape

According to the data from Google Trends, Zovol brand is rising while HQD brand is falling. The trends see that they’re going to cross at some point. So we speculate that the new brand Zovol will outrace the popularity of HQD likely in the January of 2023.

Will Zovol outrace HQD disposble vapeHQD VS VOZOL

The trends represent how many people are searching the brands, the more people need the brand, the more searches there will be. That’s how we speculate.

Vozol trendsVozol fast-growing trend

However, if we compare the area size of the two brand trends, HQD is still the biggest winner.

smok trend

When taking a look at the most famous box mod brand Smok, we found it’s going downhill since 2018. Comparing it with the growing trend of Vozol disposable, we can see how the market is shifting in a complex and ever-changing environment.

As to why the HQD trend is going down while Zovol is going up steadily under the shadow of giants, we summarized 3 reasons.

HQD is more expensive than Zovol generally. Zovol has made some surprise moves by making use of cheap recycled material in its product, saving a great cost. Vozol’s like half the price of HQD.Zovol’s sales agent system is better than HQD. There used to be lots of vapers and businesses asking for HQD products for self use or reselling, because they failed to buy products from the official directly according to the companies’ stale agent system. We can’t deny the system helped the company a lot in the earlier stage, though it sacrificed some future benefits. On the contrary, Zovol official is always ready to serve big or small resellers and agents. The huge reputation prevents the development of the large company. Like Juul, like some other big brands, are regulated and prevented from growing bigger.

In this industry, there is always something we can’t expect. Make money hard while getting ready to run away. Life is an adventure, survivors are not always respectful, and death with satisfaction is worthwhile sometimes.

ZOVOO DRAGBAR B5000 Disposables Review

0

Today we will be taking a look at the DRAGBAR B5000 disposable vapes from ZOVOO.

With a chunky, substantial feel, these hard-hitting disposables really do pack a hefty punch. There is an incredible amount of puffs per device and the B5000 also features a rechargeable 500mAh battery. Coming in a variety of flavours and nicotine strengths, this heavy-duty piece of kit offers reliability and convenience.

SPECIFICATIONS:

Puffs: 5,000
E-liquid Capacity: 13ml
Battery Capacity: 500mAh

WATERMELON LYCHEE

Harnessing a multitude of intense tropical notes, this disposable gives off a refreshing vibe. The softer and more mellow elements of watermelon seem to provide a wide base on which the sweet and almost punchy lychee can grab your attention. With a noticeable amount of iciness added, the cold sensation when exhaling is inevitable.

However, I didn’t feel that the cooling agent was so intense that it took away from the notes of watermelon and lychee. The combination of all three components created an unmistakably exotic feel that most fruit fans will enjoy. As an overall fl avour, I felt that it performed strongly, despite my personal aversion to lychee.

ALOE GRAPE

With the grape notes initially more prominent, the well-rounded and succulent taste of aloe comes in later. The grape resembled that of a grape soda, with an effervescent and bubbly quality that was super easy to enjoy. The element of aloe was a little less vibrant but offered a subdued feel that included a sort of bitterness that perfectly complemented the bright grape notes.

Compared to the Watermelon Lychee favour, this disposable’s cooling was far more subtle, offering a delicate touch of refreshment when exhaling. When it comes to the flavour on the whole, I thoroughly enjoyed the powerful and candy-like nature of the grape with the aloe peeking in right at the end.

FRUIT SLUSHIE

As the name suggests, this flavour contained a large number of icy elements alongside a varied selection of ripe, juicy and vivacious fruits. To me the fruit notes seemed to be a little indistinguishable – but not in a negative manner.

The pure collision of a number of different fruits made for a balanced and well-executed taste, giving off powerful, refreshing vibes of the tropics. As I mentioned previously, there was an intense wave of iciness that produced an extremely satisfying throat hit, without the taste of menthol. To start off with, I expected this to be a bit of a run-of-the-mill flavour, but ended up loving it, to the point of vaping it solely until it ran out.

BLUE RAZ ICE

Probably one of the more popular flavour profiles out there right now, this blue raspberry disposable checks all the boxes when it comes to a decent berry/ice combo.

With omnipresent notes that are deep, rich and sweet, the blue raspberry emanates a candy-like feel that evokes a taste similar to that of a blue bonbon. Many blue raspberry flavours I have tried over the years involved an artificial, chemical aftertaste, but there were no nasty tastes when I vaped this disposable.

As you may have guessed, there is a pronounced amount of cooling agent in this flavour too, but again, not so much so that it takes away from the fruity notes.

KIWI PASSIONFRUIT GUAVA

Another very well-liked and complex flavour doing the rounds in the disposable market right now, Kiwi Passionfruit Guava includes a varied and well-executed set of tropical fruits. To begin with, the vibrant kiwi gives off a scintillating and fizzy feel that is soon met with a sweet and floral passionfruit.

To complement these two rather powerful tastes, you will likely notice that the notes of guava offer up a subtle, yet still flavourful, undertone on which the two punchier notes can flourish. With a minimal amount of ice included in this disposable, even vapers who usually steer clear of cold vapes can enjoy this one.

What Nicotine Strength Should I Vape— Ultimate Nicotine Guide 2022

0

So, you’ve decided to make the switch from smoking to vaping. It’s a good call. But then, to enjoy a smooth transition, choosing the right nicotine strength is essential. After all, if you vape with E-juice of unsuitable strength, you may wind up coughing. Or you may not get the nicotine hit you’re accustomed to while smoking. Hence, you wonder if vaping will work for you.

At that moment, you run the risk of reconsidering your decision and returning to cigarettes. Not to worry, this article is designed to provide information about nicotine strength and help you choose right to enjoy your (first) vaping experience.

What Is Nicotine?

Found mainly in the tobacco plant, nicotine, a chemical substance, is a colorless, odorless liquid like oil in its pure state. It is a brain stimulant facilitating the increase of neurotransmitters which help regulate the body’s mood and behavior. In much smaller doses, nicotine can also be extracted from common foods such as tomatoes and potatoes. And don’t be surprised that labs also create synthetic nicotine used in e-liquids.

Most e-liquids are available on the market in strengths of 0 mg, 3 mg, 6 mg, and 12 mg. You can also see the strength of nicotine written in percentages instead of concentrations. So WHAT DO THE NUMBERS MEAN? Read on!

Regular Nicotine And Nic Salts Nicotine: Any Difference?

Regular nicotine

The regular or traditional nicotine additive, also known as Freebase nicotine, produces a strong throat hit. The nicotine freebase is harsher on the throat. Therefore, it’s better for those who want that sensation or who like to puff frequently throughout the day. In addition, the freebase nicotine contains higher Propylene Glycol (PG) than Vegetable Glycerin (VG), which means less vapor produced.

Nicotine salts

If you prefer a soft feel on your throat when inhaling, you would probably opt for this one. Nicotine salts are normal nicotine with citric acid, having a balanced pH level. Adjusting the nicotine pH relieves the harshness you feel in your throat.

Hence, E-liquids with nicotine salts generally feel much smoother on the throat than freebase nicotine products. And this is particularly favorable for people who are highly dependent on nicotine or who don’t want to puff so many times before they get the hit.

Which nicotine strength is right for me?

The answer to this question depends on fundamental factors such as your smoking habits and vaping device. E-Liquids can be customized to your individual needs to suit casual or social smoking. You can start with 0mg nicotine or add what you desire to tailor it to your liking. And in case you smoke 5-10 cigarettes a day, you may consider something right at the middle level, say between 3mg or 6mg of nicotine.

If you smoke more than a pack a day, you will most likely require about 12mg of nicotine in your bloodstream. Thankfully, many disposable devices today come with 12mg or 20mg nicotine salts in them. So, this is a perfect solution for you if you want to try out varying nicotine strengths as you switch from smoking to vaping.

  • Casual/social smoker: 0/3mg
  • Light smoker (Less than half a pack): 3mg
  • Moderate Smoker (Half a pack): 6mg
  • Heavy Smoker (Full pack): 12mg

Do devices matter for nicotine levels in e-liquids?

Yes, the device you choose matters. For instance, high wattage batteries in sub-ohm devices help increase vapor production and allow for more direct lung contact. Thus, you will get a lot of nicotine when using higher-wattage devices rather than mouth-to-lung devices.

How Nicotine Levels And E-Liquids Production Relate

Low Vapor Production

The smoke here is similar to the clouds produced by a cigarette. You can call it discreet clouds, compared to other kinds of production. This category of vape is the most familiar pod system on the market. It features mouth-to-lung (MTL) tanks with really tight airflow. This group also features high-strength nicotine salts. Interestingly, most e-liquid manufacturers no longer make flavors with regular nicotine at strengths over 6 mg/mL.

NOTE:

  • Regular nicotine: 12-24 mg/mL
  • Nicotine salts: 30-60 mg/mL

Medium Vapor Production

Clouds, but not extremely massive ones. This category of vape includes devices from most e-liquid manufacturers’ product lines. This includes pod systems that make use of sub-ohm coils, airier MTL tanks, and even sub-ohm tanks that have a very restricted draw.

NOTE:

  • Regular nicotine: 6-12 mg/mL
  • Nicotine salts: 20-30 mg/mL

High Vapor Production

Now, let’s talk about massive clouds. This production features powerful sub-ohm tanks and rebuildable atomizers with large airflow channels. It is usually hard to find nic salts for this category of e-liquids. And that is because these devices put out so much vapor that it’s very easy to get too much nic too quickly.

NOTE:

  • Regular nicotine: 1.5-6 mg/mL
  • Nicotine salts: 1.5-6 mg/mL

So, when quitting smoking, we advise new vapers to try a low-power vape —either a pod system or an MTL tank. These will emulate the draw of a cigarette, which may help smokers smoothly transition to vaping.

However, many would rather go for a restricted draw that goes directly to the lung. Some even opt for a fully open draw. And in that case, a more powerful pod system or a sub-ohm tank might be the best choice. On another note, you may have to experiment with different vaping kits and devices. There is no hard and fast route to it. No right or wrong one either! Just experiment.

Given the information provided, you may decide to begin your vaping journey on a slightly stronger nicotine strength. Over time, you can then gradually reduce the nic level. Or you can simply start on a slightly lower strength and gradually experiment until you’re satisfied.

Strengths Of Nicotine Available In E-Liquids

Sub Ohm Vaping

This is a direct-to-lung method of vaping. Some vaping kits and liquids are designed especially for this kind of vaping. The throat hit is stronger with this method. Hence, lower nicotine levels are required. These nicotine strengths work perfectly for occasional smokers or those currently vaping at low MTL strengths.

  • 0 mg ml or 0% (Nicotine Free)
  • 3 mg ml or 0.3% (Low Strength)
  • 6 mg ml or 0.6% (Medium)

MTL: Low Strength (Freebase Nicotine)

This is more favorable if you have been smoking less than 10 cigarettes daily. The throat hit is smoother and more bearable. This is because nicotine inhalation happens more slowly when compared with nicotine salts. These vape kits are a great option for new vapers.

  • 6 mg ml or 0.6% (Low – Medium Strength)
  • 8 mg ml or 0.8% (Low – Medium Strength)

MTL: Medium to High Strength (Free Base Nicotine)

These nicotine strengths are advisable for you if you smoke between 10 cigarettes and a pack daily. At these strengths, the harshness on the throat is stronger, especially at 18 mg/ml. So it’s not a surprise only those looking for a strong throat hit can bear the sharpness. This is only advised if nic salts e-liquids do not work for you.

  • 12 mg ml or 1.2% (Medium-High Strength)
  • 18 mg ml or 1.8% (High Strength)

Medium-High (Salt Nicotine/Nic Salt)

If you intend to avoid the harsh throat hit produced by freebase nicotine products, Nicotine salt e-liquids are recommended since nic salts are extracted directly from the natural tobacco leaf. Thus, the nicotine comes with a milder sensation and is taken in more quickly by the user.

  • 10 mg ml Nic Salt (Medium Strength)
  • 20 mg ml NS (Nic Salt) – (High Strength)

Converting Percentages To Mg/Ml

Perhaps you have come across nicotine strengths written as mg/mL and those expressed as percentages. What is the difference, and how do you convert from one to the other? It’s pretty simple. Read on.

Nicotine strengths in mg/mL

When nic strength is written as mg/mL, it means that for every milliliter of e-liquid in the bottle, the attached figure is the specified amount of nicotine. E.g., a 12mg/mL e-juice means that every milliliter contains 12 milligrams of nicotine.

Hence, to calculate the total amount of nicotine in a tank, simply multiply the strength in mg/mL by the number of milliliters of tank you have.

Nicotine strengths as percentages

This one is easier to understand. Here, only the amount of nicotine liquid in the bottle is highlighted. Thus, if you have some e-liquid containing 1.2% nicotine, any amount you measure will consistently be 1.2% nicotine and 98.8% PG, VG, and flavorings. This measurement is also known as “nicotine by volume” .

Converting Nicotine Strength between mg/mL and percent

Converting nicotine strength from mg/mL to a percentage is also very easy. All you have to do is divide the amount in mg/mL by 10.

Here is a good example. So, if you have a 6 mg/mL e-juice, the percentage equivalent would be 0.6% nicotine in the e-juice. A 25 mg/mL e-juice is 2.5%. And if you had a high nicotine strength of 72 mg/mL, this would be 7.2%. As simple as that.

And to convert back from percentages to mg/mL, just multiply it by 10. That’s all there is to it!

Conclusion

Basically, if you’re a heavy smoker, you’re going to need an e-liquid with a higher nicotine strength. You don’t necessarily have to give up vaping. So, experiment until you find your ideal nic strength.

Will FDA meet triumph or disaster over menthol?

0

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has taken only the first concrete steps toward ending menthol flavours in combustibles, but already there is ample speculation both on how it might all go horribly wrong, and on how it might be the country’s biggest tobacco control triumph in years. Less commented on has been what it might mean for novel nicotine products, which wouldn’t be entirely covered by the ban.

Certainly, the long-mooted proposal to prohibit menthol – now the subject of a comment period that extends to 5th July (along with a ban on all non-tobacco flavours in cigars, which has excited much less interest) – is the most dramatic step the FDA has taken since the 2009 Tobacco Control Act (TCA) made menthol the one exemption from a general flavour prohibition.

Even the deeming rule that brought vapour and other novel nicotine products into the agency’s remit, enormously impactful as it has been for this sector, pales in significance alongside the potential removal from the market of menthol combustibles, which account for around a third of US cigarette sales. Indeed, given that the TCA prohibits the FDA from banning cigarettes entirely, eliminating menthol would probably leave mandatory lowering of nicotine levels as the last big unused weapon in the FDA’s arsenal.

Of course, a menthol ban hasn’t actually happened yet, and given the stakes it is very unlikely to be unchallenged by the tobacco industry. The issue is further complicated by the association of menthol with black communities; though nobody is entirely clear exactly how it started, menthol has been disproportionately marketed to black consumers for many years, and black consumers disproportionately use it.

Racial politics

A ban can be seen as aiding black communities (by removing a significant health threat) or as penalising them (by removing a product they consume especially heavily); either way, particularly in the current climate, there is ample scope for the FDA’s proposal to become mired in racial politics. Indeed, the FDA is so aware of this that it goes to great pains in its announcement to stress that it will be targeting only the supply chain and retail – not individual smokers – and to dissociate itself from any more aggressive action that state or local governments might take.

Leaving that issue aside, there is plenty of precedent for banning menthol (the EU and Canada have done so, for example) and plenty of support from public health: for example, a modelling study by David Levy of Georgetown University and colleagues recently published in the BMJ journal Tobacco Control is unequivocal in forecasting significant reductions in mortality.

A little lost in the big picture, however, are the implications of the FDA’s menthol plan for novel nicotine products such as e-cigarettes and heated tobacco, not all of which would be included in the ban, at least as it stands.

So far, in its glacially slow determination of premarket tobacco product applications (PMTA) for e-cigarettes, the FDA has only granted marketing authorisations to tobacco flavours.

It seems clear by now that the more outré flavours, the mythical Unicorn Candyfloss and suchlike, will not survive the process: but the fate of menthol e-cigs remains open to question, and the FDA’s decision to finally act on menthol combustibles could be read either way.

The FDA’s Iqos dilemma

On the one hand, the purported disadvantages of menthol in combustibles – that it makes smoking a smoother experience and heightens the effects of nicotine, in both ways encouraging uptake of the habit – should apply equally to novel nicotine products, and lead to the rejection of PMTAs for menthol flavours.

On the other hand, and perhaps awkwardly for the FDA, not very long ago it gave the thumbs-up to two menthol versions of the Iqos Heatstick consumables from Philip Morris International (PMI) – not only allowing them to be sold, but granting them the vanishingly rare right to be marketed as modified risk products. This, of course, at a time when the FDA was clearly aware of its own objections to menthol combustibles.

Perhaps it was an oversight, perhaps it was simply a case of different parts of a large organisation not operating in lockstep. But perhaps when the Iqos modified-risk orders were granted, the combustible menthol ban was already anticipated, and the FDA was implicitly helping Iqos position itself as an off-ramp for millions of soon-to-be-forlorn menthol smokers?

In which case, could PMTA success for menthol e-cigarettes be next? And if not, what would that say about the FDA’s view on the relative risks of e-cigs and heated tobacco?

How to Make Your Own E-Liquids at Home – Dinner Lady

0

Making your own e-liquids at home is the natural next step for experienced vapers who like their juices just so.

There are many benefits to making DIY vape juice, from making great flavour combinations to saving money. But one of the best aspects of making your own e-liquids is the ability to experiment with vaping styles and e-liquid formulations, all the while enjoying the experience.

WHAT DO I NEED TO MAKE MY OWN VAPE JUICE?

Let’s start at the very beginning.

There are four components involved in e-liquids: food-grade flavourings, PG, VG and nicotine.

If you’re ready to make your own e-liquid flavours, concentrates are a great place to start. Dinner Lady’s flavour concentrates provide two of these four elements – food-grade flavourings and PG, making the process as easy as straight forward as possible. You can find out more about flavour concentrates here.

When you’ve picked your favourite concentrate flavour, all that’s left to source is VG and, if required, nicotine.

It is also handy to have e-liquid and storage bottles, pipettes, labels and gloves to hand to simplify the mixing process and reduce the amount of mess. When measuring by weight, it is also important to have a scale that has a 0.01g precision.

MIX YOUR OWN E-LIQUID SUPPLIES

There are two methods to mixing your own e-liquids – by volume and by weight.

By volume

Mixing by volume is the most common method of making a DIY e-liquid since this is how traditional e-liquids are measured.

When mixing by weight, the first place to start is with the PG and VG. Though the amount of PG and VG used in your DIY mixture is largely dependent on your personal preference, it is good to start with an even measure of each until you find your ideal ratio.

For a great first vape whilst you are finding your feet in the world of DIY vaping, mix Dinner Lady Concentrates as a 20-25% mix ratio with VG. For example, you should mix 75ml VG with 25ml of your chosen flavour.

You now have a 100ml bottle of DIY e-liquid that you’ve made yourself! You can now start getting creative by mixing different flavours and adding different ratios to alter the formulation to suit your preferences. You even have the option of adding a nicotine to complete your DIY vape juice flavour.

 By weight

There is a slightly different approach involved when mixing by weight. Each component should be measured with a scale to determine its weight. This can be particularly difficult as 1ml of VG is heavier than 1ml of PG. Vapers mixing by weight should invest in scales that have a precision of 0.01g.

The mixing process is then simple – weigh out the correct measurements of each ingredient and adjust with nicotine as required.

ALL SET: MIXING VAPE JUICE FLAVOURS

Flavour concentrates make DIY vaping simple without taking away from the fun of making your own e-liquids.

Now you know all there is to know about DIY e-juices, why not experiment by mixing different vape juice flavours? With so many different flavour concentrates to choose from, vapers have an excellent base point for making flavourful vape juices that cannot be bought in vape stores.

Derek Yach on The Importance of Innovation in Tobacco Products

0

In September 2017, one of the major tobacco companies – maker of Marlboro, Philip Morris International Inc (PMI), made yet another bold announcement saying that it would allocate $1 billion to set up a foundation that will fight smoking, and then dispense a further $80 million yearly towards the project for 12 years.

At the time, many anti-smoking experts were skeptical that the aim of the move was nothing but an effort to ensure the visibility and success of Philip Morris’ harm reduction product, iQOS. On the other hand renowned anti-tobacco activist Derek Yach, who had played a main role in the enactment of the World Health Organization’s Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) in 2005, had accepted the position of President of the Foundation.

An inclusive approach

At the time Yach had assured his peers that he had not “gone over to the dark side,” adding that his relationship with PMI is based on opportunity not trust. “I am not naïve enough to believe that Philip Morris is doing this because of the warm fuzzy feeling that they want to lower the death rates. No. What they want to do is have a product that is less risky and that makes them profits. That is the beginning and end of it.”

Meanwhile last year, Yach announced he was leaving the foundation, however he still believes that tobacco innovation is the way forward. Tobacco Reporter has recently devoted an entire issue on the topic of innovation, and as part the issue they interviewed the former Foundation for a Smoke-Free World president.

Hong Kong may lift e-cigarette re-export restrictions by the end of 2022 • VAPE HK

0

China’s Hong Kong Special Administrative Region may lift its ban on re-exports of e-cigarettes and other heated tobacco products by land and sea by the end of 2022 to boost growth. But an economist warned on Monday that if Hong Kong backs down on its commitment to curb tobacco use and weakens its promotion of public health, the move will damage the sector’s credibility.

A government insider said: “Given the enormous value of re-exports, senior officials are considering easing the transshipment ban on re-exports of alternative smoking products from Hong Kong. The original intention of the revision is to prevent re-exports from returning to Hong Kong by other means. The new move will overturn the tobacco control regime. Under the city’s current law, which was revised last year and went into effect at the end of April, no one can import, sell or manufacture alternative smoking products such as e-cigarettes, heated tobacco products and herbal cigarettes. Violators face fines of up to HK$50,000 (US$6,370) and up to six months in prison, but consumers are still allowed to use vaping products.

The legislation also prohibits the transshipment of smoking products by truck or ship to overseas via Hong Kong, except for air transshipment cargo and transit cargo left on aircraft or ships. Before the ban, Hong Kong was a major transshipment point for domestic vaping products. A December report by the China Electronic Chamber of Commerce found that 95 percent of the world’s e-cigarette products are produced in the mainland, and more than 90 percent of exports are worth about 138.3 billion yuan ($19.23 billion).

Government agencies are understood to be considering changes to the rules by the end of the year, which are expected to bring billions of dollars into government coffers each year. The Hong Kong Freight Forwarders and Logistics Association said in September that restrictions on the transshipment of e-cigarettes in Hong Kong have also resulted in a reduction in outbound air cargo. Affected shipments of e-cigarettes are estimated at 330,000 tons per year, costing about 10% of Hong Kong’s annual air exports, according to a survey of the association’s members.

The association said the value of re-exports affected by the ban was estimated at more than 120 billion yuan. The group’s chairman, Lau Ho-hsien, also warned that the ban has shaken Hong Kong’s status as a regional transshipment hub and dealt a huge blow to people’s livelihood.

Yi Zhiming, a legislator who represented the city’s transportation department and lobbied to ease the ban, said amendments to the law could include allowing re-export of vaping products by sea and air, as there are now logistics systems in place to prevent products from slipping into the city. The Airport Authority operates a logistics park in Dongguan that acts as a joint checkpoint for the movement of goods. It will cast a huge safety net to block. “He says. “When the cargo arrives at the Hong Kong airport, the transit cargo will be loaded onto the aircraft for re-export.

The government is concerned about the risk of vaping products entering the community. Now, this new security system closes the loopholes in product transshipment, so it’s safe to change the law. But Li Xiaobao, an economist and honorary researcher at the China Asia-Pacific Business School, said the SAR government could make a U-turn over the re-export ban on overland vaping products, thereby damaging its credibility. The SAR government is facing increasing financial pressure, with poor revenue from stamp duty and land sales. It needs to generate some revenue in various ways, which is understandable. He says. But a U-turn could undermine the government’s purpose of safeguarding public health, and the public could see the government as failing to deliver on its promise to crack down on tobacco products.

Financial Secretary Paul Chan expects the budget deficit to exceed HK$100 billion (US$12.7 billion) this year, almost double the forecast, as stamp duty and land sales revenue is expected to be much lower than expected due to the Covid-19 pandemic and a weak external economic environment. But Lee said the government should look for long-term solutions to generate revenue, such as diversifying revenue streams, rather than relying on the proceeds from land sales. He added that lifting the ban on re-exports of e-cigarettes would only provide some short-term financial relief for the authorities.

The core problem is the city’s narrow tax base. The government must find some long-term solutions to expand revenue streams, or it may need to make U-turns on many policies. He says. China’s Hong Kong Special Administrative Region first proposed a blanket ban on e-cigarettes in 2015, but the proposal was watered down in 2018 when it decided to regulate the industry in the same way as traditional tobacco products. However, after heavy criticism from Hong Kong’s medical and education departments, then-chief executive Carrie Lam proposed a complete ban on e-cigarettes, heated tobacco products and herbal cigarettes in her 2018 policy address.

Is Vape Safer than Cigarettes – Some Vaping Facts You Need to Know

0

Our Blog

by Alan Johnson

on

Jul 21, 2022

Vaping is the term used for the use of an electronic cigarette or vape pen. Vaping is a popular alternative to smoking, and many people believe it to be safer than smoking tobacco cigarettes. There are many different types of electronic cigarettes, but they all work by heating a liquid that contains nicotine, flavorings, and other chemicals to create a vapor that can be inhaled.

What are the Side Effects of Smoking Cigarettes?

Smoking cigarettes can cause a number of serious health problems, including:

Cancer

Smoking cigarettes is the leading cause of cancer death in the world. Cigarette smoking causes about one-third of all cancer deaths, including 90% of lung cancer cases. The chemicals used in cigarette smoke damage DNA, which can lead to the development of cancer. When these chemicals are inhaled, they can also damage other parts of the body, such as the heart and lungs. Other types of cancer caused by smoking include; blood cancer, bladder cancer, cervical cancer, throat cancer, and stomach cancer.

Heart Disease

Smoking cigarettes increases the risk of heart disease and stroke. Cigarette smoking causes plaque to build up in the arteries, which can lead to a heart attack or stroke. Smoking also increases the risk of other heart problems, such as angina and congestive heart failure. The chemicals in cigarette smoke can also damage the heart and blood vessels, making them less able to pump blood.

Respiratory Disease

Respiratory diseases are a group of conditions that affect the lungs and airways. Smoking cigarettes is the leading cause of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Cigarette smoking also increases the risk of other respiratory diseases, such as pneumonia, lung cancer, and tuberculosis.

Diabetes

The chemicals in cigarette smoke can damage the cells in the pancreas, which can lead to the development of diabetes. When the pancreas is unable to secrete insulin, it can no longer control blood sugar levels, which can lead to diabetes. Pancrease also secretes glucagon which helps the body maintain blood sugar levels and is inhibited by smoking cigarettes.

Pregnancy Complications

When a pregnant woman smokes cigarettes, she is more likely to have a miscarriage, stillbirth, or low birth weight baby. Cigarette smoking can also cause other pregnancy complications, such as preterm labor, placental abruption, and premature rupture of membranes.

Gum Disease

People who smoke cigarettes are more likely to develop gum disease, which is a leading cause of tooth loss. The chemicals in cigarette smoke can damage the gums and teeth, making them more susceptible to infection.

Eye Disease

Smoking cigarettes can damage the eyes and increase the risk of developing eye diseases, such as cataracts and age-related macular degeneration. The chemicals in cigarette smoke can also damage the blood vessels in the eyes, which can lead to vision problems.

Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a condition that causes the bones to become weak and porous. The chemicals in cigarette smoke can damage the bone-forming cells, which can lead to the development of osteoporosis. Cigarette smoking is also associated with an increased risk of fractures.

Kidney Disease

Some of the chemicals in cigarette smoke can damage the kidneys, which can lead to the development of kidney disease. The damage caused by smoking can eventually lead to kidney failure. Kidney disease is also a leading cause of death in people with diabetes.

Skin Diseases

Smoking cigarettes can also cause a number of skin diseases, such as psoriasis and eczema. The chemicals in cigarette smoke can damage the skin, making it more susceptible to infection and disease. Some of the other skin problems associated with smoking include; wrinkles, age spots, and thinning skin.

What is the Side Effects of Vaping?

Vaping is nicotine free but still has some effects. Usually, vaping is not known to cause any severe side effects, but it can still have some minor ones. You may experience a dry mouth and throat, although this usually goes away after a while. Some people have also reported feeling lightheaded or dizzy after vaping. In very rare cases, people have also experienced nausea and vomiting after vaping.

Another thing to keep in mind is that, while vaping is not known to cause any serious side effects, it can still be harmful if you do it too much. Vaping can be addictive, and if you find yourself doing it more and more, you may want to consider cutting back. It’s also important to remember that, while vaping is not as harmful as smoking cigarettes, it is still not entirely safe. So if you’re thinking about making the switch to vaping, it’s important to do your research first and talk to your doctor.

Vaping vs Smoking: Which is Safer?

The jury is still out on which is safer: vaping or smoking. However, most experts agree that vaping is significantly less harmful than smoking cigarettes. Cigarette smoke contains thousands of chemicals, many of which are toxic and can cause serious health problems. Vaping, on the other hand, only contains nicotine and a few other chemicals.

While there is still some debate on the subject, most experts agree that vaping is much safer than smoking cigarettes. If you’re looking to quit smoking, or if you’re just looking for a less harmful way to get your nicotine fix, vaping may be the way to go. But remember, it’s still important to do your research first and talk to your doctor.

Though vaping is less harmful, it is addicted, and the long-term effect is unknown. Most important, Young people are drawn to flavours more than any other group, and flavours are a main marketing strategy for the tobacco industry. Vaping can become a gateway to smoking for kids. If you are looking to quit smoking, or if you are just looking for a less harmful way to get your nicotine fix, vaping may be the way to go. Smoking has so many side effects as compared to vaping. The list of vaping side effects is much shorter, and the risks associated with it are much lower. If you’re looking to quit smoking, or if you’re just looking for a less harmful way to get your nicotine fix, vaping may be the way to go.

Is PMI shifting focus from vaping to other smoke-free alternatives?

0

The $16bn takeover of Swedish Match by Philip Morris International (PMI) suggests that PMI may be moving further away from vaping as part of its smoke-free portfolio and goals.

The merger now seems more likely than not to happen (at least as of today; these things are never certain until the last signature is signed). And with it, attention in PMI shifts further away from vaping and towards other tobacco-based smoke-free alternatives.

Yes, PMI will continue to market its Iqos-branded e-cigarette, but that has always seemed like an after-thought to the Iqos heated-tobacco product range. Now PMI will gain significant pouch and snus brands, which underline its commitment to smoke-free products and which (the company hopes) will position it to benefit from growth in Asia and Europe. It will also appreciate Swedish Match’s sales operation in the US (something it is now not going to get from Altria, more of which below).

Swedish Match, meanwhile, will welcome access to the resources of a much larger corporation and its international infrastructure, as well as its expertise in ENDS an area where the Scandinavian company has not ventured. Both will benefit from each other’s regulatory savvy in different markets, too.

The news also appears to be further confirmation that although PMI was recently considered quite likely to re-merge with Altria, it has given up on that idea, something that PMI’s CEO Jacek Olczak indicated late last year.

Entry into the modern oral sector was clearly a prime motivation for PMI to pursue the deal with Swedish Match, and the latter’s Zyn pouches will now come into PMI’s collection of brands – giving it little strategic need for Altria’s On! pouches, which are major competitors for Zyn in the US market.

So will Altria, which despite its strong presence in the US has minimal profile elsewhere and was somewhat burned when it tried to widen horizons through an investment in Juul, now look for a different international partner?

PG and VG Explained – Dinner Lady

0

Winner of over 46 awards, including Best Desserts flavour five years running, Dinner Lady e-liquids are loved by vapers everywhere. Dinner Lady e-liquids consist of four key ingredients: Propylene Glycol (PG), Vegetable Glycerin (VG), food-grade flavourings and nicotine.

While food-grade flavourings and nicotine are commonly known ingredients, those new to vaping may be less familiar with PG and VG.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PG AND VG E-LIQUID?

Propylene Glycol (PG)

Propylene Glycol, commonly referred to in the vaping industry as PG, is used as a preservative in food products. PG is an odourless liquid that is thin in consistency and carries flavours well. E-liquids with high ratios of PGs are responsible for a more noticeable throat hit that closely resembles the sensation of smoking a cigarette.

Vegetable Glycerin (VG)

Vegetable Glycerin is also colourless but has a thicker consistency than PG which helps to produce a dense vapour that is popular with cloud chasers and sub ohm vapers.

ARE PG AND VG SAFE?

Both PG and VG are approved as sweeteners by the FSA and WHO. They are used in many different products, from pharmaceuticals to cosmetics, toothpaste to hand cream, beverages to asthma inhalers.

WHAT IS THE BEST PG:VG RATIO FOR MY TANK?

The best ratio for you depends on factors such as e-liquid formulation, coil ohm and vaping preference. The below table provides a rough guide on choosing the best wattage for your e-liquid.

Typically, the following PG:VG ratios should be used with the following wattage:

E-Liquid Formulation Wattage Range Vaping Type
50:50s Low wattage (typically 15-25w) Mouth to lung
Nic Salts  Low wattage (typically less than 15w) Mouth to lung
30:70s Medium wattage (typically between 30 and 45w) Direct to lung
Shortfills High wattage (typically between 30 and 55w) Direct to lung

Please note: the table is intended to use as a rough guide. Always take note of the manufacturers instructions when vaping.

WHAT RATIO SHOULD I START WITH?

Those new to vaping often start with 50:50s and Nic Salts e-liquids. Both have a 50:50 PG:VG ratio which create a tight throat hit that is most like smoking a traditional cigarette.

Those that have been vaping for a while, on the other hand, might want to try out a different ratio. Ratios with higher VG contents create bigger clouds and are great for a direct to lung (DTL) vape with more flavour and a less intense throat hit.

CAN I ALTERNATE BETWEEN RATIOS?

If you have a vape kit that supports variable wattages and a range of different coils, you can alternate between ratios of 50:50 and 30:70 depending on your preference at the time. While 50:50 formulations are more discreet and perhaps better suited to a working environment, 30:70 ratios are great for trying new flavours and producing thick vapour.

Geek Bars & Elf Bars

Like many disposable devices, the exquisite flavours available alongside the ease of use has proven to provide a great vape experience. These disposable vapes are perfect for a night out and a party favourite, especially as you don’t have the hassle of carrying any e-liquid bottles or vape kits, and for ex-smokers, there is no need for a lighter. Just simply grab your disposable device and take a draw.

Both disposable devices – Geek Bars and Elf Bars – are made and manufactured in Shenzhen, China. They have a variety of similarities and differences and are both extremely popular, but which is better? Or rather, which is better for your lifestyle & preferences?

In this comparison article, we will be comparing the Geek Bar, Geek Bar Lite, and the Elf Bar 600. These are all TPD compliant products (containing no more than 20mg or 2ml). Unfortunately, the Geek Bar Pro and the Elf Bar 1500 both exceed legal limits for the UK; hence they are illegal and will not be covered.

Let’s dive in.

Similarities of Geek Bar vs Elf Bar

In many ways, Geek Bars and Elf Bars are very similar disposable vape devices. They both contain a single-use battery, both pre-filled with 2ml of Salt Nicotine e-liquid, and they are both extremely portable, small enough to put in your trouser pockets or your handbag. However, the Geek Bar Lite has a slightly less e-liquid capacity of 1.8ml and slightly smaller.

As mentioned, both Geek Bars and Elf Bars have TPD compliant options, and they both contain 20mg of nicotine inside a 2ml capacity pod or less.

Nicotine Strength

All three devices, the Elf Bar, Geek Bar and Geek Bar Lite, all have a nicotine concentration of 20mg. The type of e-liquid used is a nicotine salt (instead of a freebase nicotine e-liquid) to ensure a smooth throat hit at high nicotine strengths.

Auto-Draw Activation

Both the Elf Bar and Geek Bar are draw-activated devices with no buttons. Both also support Mouth-To-Lung (MTL) style vaping.

LED Light

Both Elf Bar and Geek Bars feature LED lights. These are located at the bottom of the devices. The LED lights continuously light up when you puff, but they flash when they have run out to let you know to throw it away.

VG/PG Ratio

The pre-filled e-liquid has a VG/PG ratio of 50/50. This is the most common type of ratio and is perfect for MTL vaping, which mimics the experience of smoking traditional cigarettes. Thanks to its thin cloud production, the 50/50 ratio also allows you to vape discreetly if you wish.

Differences Between Geek Bars & Elf Bars

While both devices share many similarities, there are equally just as many differences between the two devices. From variations in puff counts to flavour options, each can appeal to different types of vapers.

Battery Size

The 550mAh Battery size in the Elf Bar disposable vape is slightly bigger than the 500mAh in the Geek Bar devices. Even smaller is the battery in the Geek Bar Lite, with a battery capacity of 350mAh.

However, it’s important to note that the battery life will depend on the amount of time you spend vaping the device, just like any other battery-powered device.

Puff Count

The puff count is the expected maximum number of puffs you can take from the device before the e-liquid or battery runs out. The puff count on the Elf Bar is slightly higher than the Geek Bar and Geek Bar Lite.

Elf Bar Puff Count: 600 Puffs

Geek Bar Puff Count: 575 Puffs

Geek Bar Lite Puff Count: 400 Puffs

These puffs also vary on your own personal vaping style. Whether you enjoy short sharp puffs or deep long puffs, this will affect battery life and e-liquid drainage.

Mouthpiece

The Geek Bar disposable has a fully integrated mouthpiece. This makes it a very different disposable device compared to anything out there as it is part of the device itself; there is no visible separation of the mouthpiece and the body.

On the other hand, the Elf Bar has a mouthpiece that is manufactured separately from the body, but it is assembled perfectly. It has a notably comfortable thin mouthpiece that fits into your mouth well with its great ergonomic design.

Size & Dimensions

The Elf Bar is 25mm longer than the Geek bar and has a 22mm (oe) diameter. Most notably, however, the body of Elf Bar devices is circular, whereas the Geek Bar is rectangular with curved edges.

Elf Bar Dimensions: 130mm x oe23mm

Geek Bar Dimensions: 105mm x 23mm x 14mm

Geek Bar Lite Dimensions: 97mm x 20mm x 10mm

The Geek Bar and the Geek Bar Lite are designed in a single solid colour across the entire device, in a unibody shell. It is naturally the colour associated with the flavour for best representation. For example, the colour of the Banana Ice Geek Bar device is yellow.

On the other hand, the Elf bar has a multi-coloured body. All Elf Bars are designed to be black (the base, mouthpiece and main body), with text and design elements coloured to represent the flavour of the pre-filled e-liquid. For example, Blueberry will have hints of blue across the device.

Material

The Elf Bar has a smooth matte finish, which gives it that luxury soft-touch feel. On the other side, the Geek Bar and the Geek Bar Lite have a clear, smooth plastic coating around the Geek Bar, adding a shiny finish.

How many cigarettes are equivalent to an Elf Bar or Geek Bar

The puff counts and total nicotine intake of an Elf bar or a Geek Bar are equivalent to 2 packs of 20 cigarettes (40 cigarettes in total), making the disposable bars significantly cheaper as a nicotine product. However, like all vaping devices & e-liquid, Elf Bars & Geek Bars do not contain any tobacco or any of the 3000 harmful substances that a cigarette possesses.

Geek Bar Flavours vs Elf Bar Flavours

The flavours that these bars possess are very similar. Geek Bars focus on gorgeous fruit, ice-cool and mint blends. In contrast, the Elf Bars have drink blends alongside ice-cool flavours.

GEEK BAR FLAVOURS

Passion Fruit

Passion Fruit is a sweet and tart flavour that’s ultra-smooth. It’s a refreshing fruity vape, perfect for a hot summers day.

Peach Ice

Peach Ice is a mouth-watering flavour. This Geek Bar uses rich and sweet peaches, finished with an ice-cool finish.

Strawberry Ice-Cream

This is a huge favourite. It takes sweet strawberries mixed with thick, creamy ice cream. Perfect for a hot summers day.

ELF BAR FLAVOURS

Blue Razz Lemonade

Blue Razz Lemonade is a popular flavour; it’s a gorgeous blend of fizzy lemonade and Candy Sweet blue raspberry, perfect for an all-day vape.

Energy Ice (Red bull Ice)

This is a take on the popular energy drink that we all know and love. A very popular vape that will make you feel like you are sipping on the same drink.

Kiwi Passion fruit Guava

This flavour is a perfect medley of tropical fruits, beautifully blended together for an overall sweet vape; Tangy Kiwi, mixed with sweet Passion Fruit and Guava.

Elf Bar Prices vs Geek Bar Prices

Elf Bars and Geek Bars are generally available for the same price. However, with the Geek Bar Lite being a smaller device, it is slightly cheaper than the standard sized Geek Bar.

Elf Bars are available on IndeJuice individually or as a multi-buy deal. They are £5.99 individually, or you can buy 4 for the price of £17.95.

Geek Bars are available on IndeJuice for a price of £5.99 individually or as a multi-buy deal, where you can buy 4 for £19.95.

Geek Bar Lites are slightly cheaper, individually they are £4.99, or you can buy 3 for £12.95.

The Elf Bar, Geek Bar and Geek Bar Lites are all available on the IndeJuice site. Unlimited free one-day delivery is available with no minimum order within the UK. Whether you order one Elf Bar or a mix and match of multiple Geek Bars and Elf Bars, you will receive this the next day without paying a penny more.

So which is better: Geek Bar or Elf Bar?

Ultimately, vaping is an extremely personal choice for any vaper. Geek Bars are most definitely the more popular disposable device in the UK today, but Elf Bars are catching up very quickly because they are extremely similar yet beautifully different in their own ways.

So, as of today, the UK has definitely pointed to Geek Bars being the better disposable vape device. However, that could change very soon, which begs the question: are Elf Bars set to uproot Geek Bars from their throne?

If the comparisons above haven’t swayed you to either device, then there’s only one way to find out: Buy one of each, try them out, and decide for yourself.

How Much Nicotine In a Disposable Vape VS a Cigarette

0

If you intend to quit smoking and look for an alternative to traditional cigarettes, vaping is for you. However, before jumping from one side, you must make an informed decision.

You might be having questions about the amount of nicotine in disposable vapes, the number of puffs in a vape that equate to a cigarette, and the number of puffs you will get in a day through vaping. Herein, we will help you answer them.

How much nicotine is in one cigarette?

A single cigarette has nicotine levels ranging from 8mg to 20mg. The nicotine in cigarettes is in the form of tobacco. Some cigarettes are more potent than others. Despite the average nicotine volume in a cigarette ranging from 8-20 mg, you may not be able to ingest it through smoking.

Researchers suggest your body will only absorb about 1 to 2mg of nicotine per cigarette. The researchers believe that factors like tobacco combustion and the rate at which the human body absorbs nicotine contribute to the lower bioavailability.

For instance, if you smoke ten cigarettes, your body may only absorb nicotine ranging from 10mg-20 mg on that day. The research findings may help you determine the nicotine amount you will need. However, the findings are not a size-fit-all.

Unlike cigarette smoking, it’s easy to tell the exact amount of nicotine salt you will take using a disposable vape. Disposable vapes come with a standard volume of already measured nicotine salt.

How much nicotine salt is in Disposable Vapes?

Disposable vapes come with a predetermined amount of nicotine salt in them. Hence, determining the amount of nicotine salt in the disposable vape is straightforward. Nicotine volume is measured by the percentage of the vape form or the total vape juice in milligram concentration.

In the market, you will find a disposable vape that contains 5ml vape juice, indicating 5% as its nicotine salt strength. If you intend to convert the nicotine salt strength from its percentage form to mg/mL, nicotine with 5% strength equates to 50 mg/ml. Therefore, the disposable’s total nicotine salt volume will be 50mg/ml X 5 ml=250 mg.

How many vape nicotine puffs are equal to one cigarette?

When it comes to nicotine puffs in a vape disposable vs. a cigarette, there is no precise metric because cigarettes do not have consistent nicotine levels.

However, we can use an average nicotine level to tell the number of puffs in such cases. For instance, if a disposable vape contains 6ml vape juice with 5% nicotine strength and a 300 mg nicotine volume, to get the equivalent amount of nicotine, you will need 15-30 cigarettes.

How Many Disposable Vape Nicotine Puffs are Considered Normal?

How many puffs you will take from your disposable vape depends on your vaping habits. The number of puffs as well depends on your nicotine juice’s concentration.

If you take long nicotine puffs that are dense, you are likely to ingest more nicotine vapor than someone who uses their disposable vape sparingly. However, we can estimate the number of puffs as shown below.

For instance, let’s take a disposable vape whose tank carries up to 50mg of nicotine and call it “XYZ Vape.” While estimating, we will find that such a disposable vape will give you an average of 800 puffs before the juice in its tank is depleted.

While determining the nicotine level that you should expect from each puff, the easiest equation to use will be:

Nicotine per puff = total nicotine / total puffs.

So, for our XYZ vape, the values will be:

50mg of nicotine / 800 puffs =  0.0625 mg of nicotine juice in each puff

To relate the number of puffs above wth a cigarette ( assuming the cigarette has1mg of nicotine), you would need 16 puffs off of our “XYZ Vape” to get a similar amount of nicotine as a traditional cigarette offers.

The values above are just a rough estimate, not the number of puffs you will get. However, these values will help you get almost accurate estimates if you are trying to track your nicotine intake.

Nicotine Delivery Vs. Absorption

Disposables offer vape users a more efficient nicotine delivery method than cigarettes. However, that is not the case when it comes to absorption. The rate and amount of nicotine you vape at any given time determines the strength of your e-juice.

A recent study on traditional cigarettes, first-generation E-Cigarettes, and the latest E-Cigarettes has some interesting findings.

According to the research, a vaper who ingests an e-liquid with 18mg nicotine strength will absorb one-third to one-fifth of the nicotine after 5 minutes compared to smoking.

The researchers conclude that a tobacco cigarette will deliver nicotine faster than an  E-Cigarette. Hence, you will end up ingesting more puffs to attain the desired amount of nicotine regardless of your nicotine’s high strength.

The variation between delivery and absorption may result from tobacco cigarettes having over 4000 additives, including the ones strengthening nicotine addiction. Unlike tobacco cigarettes, vape E-liquids only contain VG (vegetable glycerine), PG (propylene glycol), flavorings, and nicotine.

Take Away On Disposable Vape Vs. Cigarette  Smoking

After analyzing nicotine variables in E-cigarettes vs. disposable vapes, vape experts have settled on a metric that will help you switch seamlessly from traditional cigarette smoking to vaping.

Generally, a majority of disposable vapes offer 20mg of freebase or nicotine salt. However, other brands in the market offer vapers with lesser strengths that are suitable for novice smokers. These vape’s nicotine strength is as low as 10 or 11mg.

To ensure quality nicotine hits from a disposable vape, draw long and slow nicotine puffs from your disposable vape. If you need more nicotine to quench your cravings, buy a disposable vape with a high nicotine concentration. Extra potent vape may result in coughing locks and headaches. Consider a disposable with less powerful nicotine salt in this case.

It might help to note that you might end up vaping more than you used to smoke because of nicotine’s salwar intake. Hence, you may consider taking breaks after each puff for effects to manifest. On the other hand, quitting tobacco smoking may be difficult. However, disposable vapes are a safer alternative to helping you quit smoking.

Are worries over novel products distracting from the real problem?

0

We’re very used to hearing, from the defenders of new nicotine products, the argument that while vaping has clearly increased among young people it’s also contributed to an equally clear decline in their smoking of combustibles. The discussion is usually in the specific context of US schoolkids, but it applies in other countries too.

That, however, is not the only way in which focusing on the downsides of novel products is disguising the reality of nicotine consumption among the young, according to US public health scholar Jeffrey Drope. He is lead editor and author of the latest edition of the Tobacco Atlas as well as research professor in the School of Public Health at the University of Illinois at Chicago (the Atlas is a joint project of the international Tobacconomics group, based at the university, and the public health non-profit Vital Strategies).

Speaking today at the launch of the seventh edition of the Atlas, Drope suggested that new nicotine technologies are “a huge distraction” which have “confused governments, the public health community and the public”.

Drope is certainly not an ardent advocate of vapour, heated tobacco and the like – he suggested that the ideal regulatory approach was to “keep very, very narrow channels open for those that we think these products might be helpful for”, and he urged looking at regulatory approaches ranging from the UK’s liberal regime to Australia’s near-complete ban.

His point, rather, was that if we think on a global level rather than in terms of a single developed market, the picture of youth smoking is not quite so positive.

Adolescent use of combustible cigarettes is increasing in many countries, notably in emerging markets with young populations and limited regulation, and worryingly among girls as well as boys (perhaps because of girls’ greater use of social media, another speaker suggested). And, while overall global smoking has decreased in the last decades, that is “not written in stone”.

From this perspective, focusing the regulatory and public health discussion on novel products is simply missing the point. They might bring incremental benefits or losses, but the big challenge globally – though not, of course, in every individual country – is still to reduce uptake of combustibles.

How to Clean a Burnt Coil – Dinner Lady

0

Desserts, Fruits, Sweets, Drinks, Ice, Menthol, Tobacco – with so many different flavour profiles to choose from, finding your go-to can be a difficult and time-consuming process. And when you find your perfect flavour, the last thing you want is to spoil your hit with the foul taste of a burnt coil.

If your usual vape is tainted by the acrid taste of smoke, it’s likely that the wicking material inside your coil has been singed. Often made of cotton, the wick draws your e-liquids towards the heating element where your liquid is vaporised. When there is not enough liquid left for the coil to vaporise, your coil will continue working without the necessary fluids. This causes the wick to dry burn, causing an acrid burning taste that spoils the flavourings of your e-juice.

HOW DO I KNOW WHEN MY COIL IS BURNT?

Due to the acrid, unpleasant taste of a burnt coil, you will be under no doubt that your coil is burnt. You may also notice some visible signs that your coil is burnt.

What does a burnt coil look like?

At first glance, a burnt coil may not necessarily look any different to a normal coil. The inside wick, however, will show obvious signs of damage with singed and burnt edges.

Can you fix a burnt coil?

Though burnt coils are best to be replaced as soon as possible, the good news is that you can get a little extra life from them whilst you wait for your new coils to arrive.

STEP ONE: SOAK YOUR COILS

First thing’s first, remove your coils from your e-cig and let them soak in a bowl of hot water to loosen any residue.

STEP TWO: CLEANSE YOUR COILS (optional)

If the residue does not loosen when soaked, try adding a little lemon juice or vinegar to your bowl of hot water. Follow with an additional soak in hot water to remove any trace of lemon or vinegar that could alter the flavour of your vape juice.

STEP THREE: LEAVE TO AIR DRY

Remove your coils from the water bowl and place on a flat surface or towel where the coils can airdry.

STEP FOUR: PRIME THE COILS

Priming your coils is the best way to avoid dry hits. By soaking your coils with a small amount of your e-liquid, your wick will soak up the fluid to prevent it from burning.

STEP FIVE: REPLACE

Last but not least, put the coils back in your e-cigarette and vape as normal.

THE FINAL VERDICT

Cleaning your coils is great way to give your coils some extra life when you cannot immediately replace them with new ones. This is not a hard and fast rule, however, as, in some cases, your coils may be beyond repair. The best course of action is to keep a spare coil on hand for emergencies to make sure you are not caught without your vape.

And don’t forget, the best way to avoid the unpleasant taste is to make sure you prime your coils and always have enough liquid in your tank.

Tobacco Harm Reduction Advocates Sign ‘The Manila Declaration 2022’

0

Released after the Fifth Asia Harm Reduction Forum (AHRF 2022) on 28th October, the Manila Declaration aims to provide information and evidence which has been excluded from any guidance provided by the World Health Organization (WHO) to signatories and delegates of the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) on safer nicotine products. Moreover it highlights that vapers continue to be marginalised, ignored, and attacked for their choices, despite the science backing the use of vapes for smoking cessation.

“An individual’s right to health is recognised as a fundamental human right; Smoking causes the vast majority of tobacco-related death and disease; Vaping is dramatically safer than cigarettes and has helped millions quit smoking; Harm reduction is at the core of international treaty obligations; Bans serve only to protect the cigarette industry; and that public health and governments’ credibility is at stake,” states the declaration.

The document highlights the ridiculousness of allowing cigarettes on the market whilst banning their safer alternatives. It highlights that it is criminal to allow a product that is known to kill people with certainty to be sold liberally on the free market, and ban or restrict safer alternatives for adults who smoke.

WHO’s FCTC COP10

The next WHO’s FCTC Conference of Parties – COP10, a key global tobacco control meeting where delegates make recommendations on safer nicotine products, will be held in Panama in November 2023. Executive Coordinator of CAPHRA (Coalition of Asia Pacific Tobacco Harm Reduction Advocates) Nancy Loucas, said that now that Asia seems to be more open to the idea of tobacco harm reduction, the pressure will be more intense.

“Advocates are more determined than ever to ensure the proven THR approach to tobacco control is adopted by more countries. The Philippines has recently lifted its vaping ban and other Asian countries are set to follow, but we’ve got to keep the pressure on. Cigarettes cannot win,” she says.

The Global State of Tobacco Harm Reduction 2022: The Right Side of History.

0

Press Release

Global policymakers urged to seize potential of safer nicotine products to reduce smoking-related death and disease: failure to do so will cost many lives

New GSTHR report documents the search for safer ways to use nicotine, beset with false starts, and charts the history of tobacco harm reduction
Emergence of new safer nicotine products has caused substantial disruption to nicotine use, public health and tobacco control institutions, and the traditional tobacco industry
Mistrust and ideological opposition is hampering widespread adoption of a strategy that could help 1.1 billion adult smokers failed by existing tobacco control interventions

Today sees the launch of The Global State of Tobacco Harm Reduction 2022: The Right Side of History, the latest in a landmark report series from UK-based public health agency Knowledge Action Change (KAC) (1,2).

The new publication charts the history of tobacco harm reduction to date, and considers the future of a strategy that can hasten the end of smoking and drastically reduce smoking-related death and disease worldwide.

Smoking-related diseases are not caused by nicotine, but by the thousands of chemicals released when tobacco burns.

The Right Side of History explores how the past two decades have witnessed substantial disruption to patterns of consumer nicotine use, public health narratives, the work of tobacco control institutions and traditional tobacco industry interests, due to the emergence of new products that independent evidence shows are substantially safer than cigarettes and can support smoking cessation.

These products include nicotine vapes, tobacco-free nicotine pouches, Swedish-style snus and heated tobacco products.

The global public health crisis caused by smoking is ongoing and deadly.

Despite the billions spent to date on tobacco control by the World Health Organization (WHO) and governments around the world, international tobacco control measures have stalled.

1.1bn people still smoke, a figure that has remained unchanged for two decades. 80% of the world’s smokers live in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC), and every year, eight million people die of smoking-related disease. By 2100, the WHO estimates that one billion people will die as a result of smoking.

Large scale substitution of deadly combustible cigarettes with much safer nicotine products can significantly reduce the death and disease caused by smoking.

The Right Side of History explores the development of this approach, known as tobacco harm reduction.

Harm reduction is an evidence-based public health intervention grounded in human rights that reduces health risks by giving people safer alternative products or encouraging less risky actions, not by banning products or actions.

It developed in the 1980s as part of the response to HIV/AIDS and has already saved countless lives. The report argues that, integrated into the global response to tobacco, harm reduction has the potential to save many more.

The Right Side of History documents the lengthy search for safer ways to use nicotine, which was beset with many false starts.

Throughout the 20th century, tobacco companies repeatedly made attempts to create and heavily promote ‘safer’ cigarettes, but the products remained deadly, and industry deceptions laid bare in the 1990s led to significant legal and financial consequences.

By the 1970s, health researchers and clinicians had recognised that if consumers could access palatable safer alternatives to smoking, the toll of smoking-related death and disease could be reduced.

The Swedish experience, which saw the substitution of cigarettes with pasteurised snus from the 1980s onwards, began to provide large-scale epidemiological evidence of the population-level health benefits of a switch away from combustible tobacco to less harmful nicotine products.

Exploring the role of individual innovators who were working outside both the tobacco industry and public health, The Right Side of History charts numerous attempts to create safer nicotine products.

It was at the start of the 21st century that Chinese pharmacist Hon Lik developed the electronic cigarette, or nicotine vaping device. Within a few years, thousands of people around the world began sharing personal experiences of switching from smoking to vaping products in online forums.

The report evidences the growth of supportive vaping communities, both on the internet and in person, and describes the birth of consumer advocacy, when regulatory authorities in some countries began considering vaping product bans.

Many countries have gone on to enact prohibitive regulations or outright bans, while countries that regulate safer nicotine products to protect consumers, ensuring proper testing, assessment, and control (including prevention of sale to children) have seen increased reductions in smoking rates. In 2022, combustible cigarettes remain legal worldwide.

Mistrust was seeded by the late entrance of the traditional tobacco industry into the safer product market.

The report argues that scrutiny and debate about new products and nicotine-using behaviours is essential. But with public health and policymakers split over tobacco harm reduction’s role, ideologically driven opposition to the approach has led to the spread of mis- and disinformation. Meanwhile, over a billion adult smokers continue being harmed by cigarettes.

If integrated into the global public health response to tobacco, effective harm reduction can help bring about substantial reductions in smoking-related death and disease at pace and at minimal cost to governments and health agencies.

A major disruptive force is at play: GSTHR estimates show that in two decades, 112 million people have begun using safer nicotine products. But consumer uptake is currently concentrated in higher income countries.

The Right Side of History argues that to achieve the greatest public health gains, and ensure no one is left behind, everyone who smokes should have the right to access lower risk products proven to be among the most effective tools for cessation.

While the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control explicitly includes harm reduction, the strategy has been ignored in implementation to date. In light of new developments in nicotine consumption, and in consideration of the fundamental human right to health, harm reduction now can and should be incorporated into international and national tobacco control efforts.

Harry Shapiro, author of The Right Side of History, said:

“Technology helped smoking become one of the world’s biggest health problems. Now, technological innovations from beyond both the tobacco industry and public health have combined to produce safer nicotine products, and millions of people who smoked have already chosen to switch. Yet progress is being hampered. Although disruption is not always comfortable, the genie is out of the bottle – these new technologies demand the development of new policies and new thinking.”

Professor Gerry Stimson, GSTHR Project Lead, Emeritus Professor, Imperial College London, said:

“A failure to recognise and exploit the potential of tobacco harm reduction will mean millions more avoidable deaths each year, and contribute to an ever-growing burden of disease that disproportionately affects the most vulnerable countries and communities.

Tobacco control’s lack of evolution, despite its very limited gains, means that many aspirational targets to achieve smoke-free status by 2030 or within the next generation are no more likely to be met than former aspirations for a drug-free world. Tobacco harm reduction offers us an historic opportunity. We must not let it slip away.”

The Right Side of History is the third in the biennial series of Global State of Tobacco Harm Reduction (GSTHR) reports, following No Fire, No Smoke in 2018 and Burning Issues in 2020. Alongside the biennial reports, GSTHR Briefing Papers and other publications, the GSTHR also delivers a free-to-access global database enabling users to explore tobacco harm reduction and safer nicotine product use on a country-by-country basis.

How Long Do Disposable Vapes Last

0

Our Blog

by Alan Johnson

on

Jul 26, 2022

Vaping shouldn’t end with taking a few puffs from your vape. It is meant to be enjoyed for a long time. However, some vapes may not last, including disposable vapes, which have been trending since 2020. You can easily get stressed changing vapes now and then. So, the question is, how long do disposable vapes last? And how do you preserve the lifespan of your vape?

To determine how long a disposable vape should last, you need to consider several factors. These factors include the battery, the type of disposable vape, and the e-liquid capacity. Many people may measure the longevity of a vape by how many puffs you can take from the vape. But the volume of puffs you can take still hinges on the said factors. Now, how do these factors affect the longevity of a vape?

Battery

The battery is the power source of your vape. Without it, your vape would not function optimally. If the battery in your disposable vape runs out, you will be unable to take any more puffs from the vape. This means that the battery directly affects the volume of puffs you can take from your vape.

For most disposable vapes, you can’t charge the battery. This means that if the battery runs out before you can finish the vape, that is the end. However, many rechargeable disposable vapes like Beco, Geek Bars, Hyde, and Esco Bars are on the market today. And with them, you can vape till the very last drop of the e-liquid.

You should understand that many vape brands have the batteries calculated. And it is done in such a way that the vape liquid would have been exhausted before the battery dies. So, if you want to avoid the battery running out before the juice, you should do some extra research before you make your vape purchase.

Liquid capacity

The vape’s volume capacity is also essential for how long disposable vapes last. This is because the larger the capacity of the vape to hold juice, the longer you can enjoy it. Vapes vary in capacity. And this is usually influenced by the different vape brands in the market. For example, disposable vape pods can hold between 2ml to 12ml of e-liquid.

Therefore, depending on your level of vaping, you would always find something that works perfectly for you, whether you prefer vaping seldomly or you are a strong vaper. There is a vape capacity for you. And that would determine how long it lasts. A disposable vape that contains 2ml e-liquid can last 400-500 puffs. Similarly, the one pre-filled with 12ml e-liquid will likely last about 5000 puffs.

Temperature

This is a factor that most people ignore. Tuning the vape’s temperature to a high level always seems tempting. It is a preferred vaping experience for some. However, you should realize that it is unsuitable in the long run. The temperature at which the vape is set should consistently match closely with the present temperature. Otherwise, the disposable vape would not last.

The reason for this is not far-fetched. The higher the temperature setting, the faster the vape coil would burn. And if the coil burns out earlier than expected, you will be unable to keep using the vape.

Proper storage for maximum usage

Here is another contributing factor that many neglect. It matters where you keep your vape. You should take proper care of the vape and ensure the best storage possible for it.

It is also advisable to store it at room temperature. If the temperature is lower, it would require more power and time to get it to the desired heat level before use. And if you are unable to store it at room temperature, you can hold it in your hands for a few minutes to heat it before you start to vape.

How often you draw

How often you take a puff determines how fast the vape’s liquid is exhausted. And once this happens, the vaping experience is pretty much over.

Most small-capacity vapes in the hands of a frequent user last three to five days. However, other disposable vapes with normal use last longer than that. Hence, there is no surprise that frequent vapers finish their disposable vapes quickly compared to other users.

Length of the draw

If you take deep long draws on your vape, there are higher chances that your vape will finish faster. The reason is simple. There is more e-liquids consumption with each puff you take. And it would quickly run out that way.

So, your use of the e-juice is more when you take a long draw. And your best bet is to find a balance between the length you inhale the puffs and the frequency of your vaping.

Type of disposable vape you are using

The type of vaporizer you also use largely affects how long your vaping experience lasts. And it is not challenging to pick one since we have limited vape pen types.

  • Single-fill disposable pens

If you are new to vaping, this is the recommended one for you. These pens are usually pre-filled and pre-charged for you. Hence, you do not have to worry about filling the e-juice. They last between 24 to 72 hours (i.e., 1-3 days) based on how frequently you vape.

  • Refillable disposable vape pens

These disposable vapes are slightly advanced. They have about 6ml of e-juice capacity. They also can provide up to 200 puffs depending on the drawing technique. Note that these pens are refillable but not rechargeable.

  • Refillable rechargeable disposable pens

These vapes are the most popular. They require minimal to no cleaning and maintenance. And they can also be recharged and refilled. They are the most advanced, with great battery life and large e-juice capacity. So, naturally, they last longer than the other two categories.

As noted earlier, there is always something for you, irrespective of your vaping preferences. There are different disposable vapes in the market. However, the Beco premium quality disposable vapes are available to meet your preferences and vaping styles. They include:

  • Beco Pro:The Beco Pro elevates the vaping experience. Just by adjusting the slider bar, you enjoy two different vaping experiences. And not only that, but you can also enjoy up to 6000 puffs for 10-day vaping powered by a type-C rechargeable 650mAh inbuilt battery and 12ml e-liquid.
  • Beco Dew:You enjoy a richer taste and a more consistent vaping experience with Beco Dew. This is made possible by the shortened air pipes that enable bigger vaping clouds. Also, it boasts of 1200MAh battery that allows up to 4500 puffs without charging.
  • Beco Mate:This vape bursts with amazing flavor. They are available and pre-filled with 2ml of salt nicotine e-liquid. Interestingly, Beco Mate disposable vape kits contain about 550 puffs of vaping experience.

In conclusion, your vaping experience does not have to be cut short. You can always enjoy it as much as you like. And the tips to ensure this have been highlighted above. Try them out and see if your vapes last longer.

how much action lies behind the talk?

0

Most tobacco companies are keen to be seen supporting the concept of harm reduction, especially through reduced-risk products like e-cigarettes, heat-not-burn and pouches: commercially viable ways to help reduce the health toll of tobacco, win-wins at least in theory.

But how far is their support for the idea actually having an effect on their activities right now, as well as their future direction? How much action, whether in the boardroom or out there in the marketplace, lies behind the talk?

Quantifying answers to these questions is among the goals of the Tobacco Transformation Index, a project of the Foundation for a Smoke-Free World (FSFW) which published its first edition in 2020 and is now approaching the second, due in September.

This second report will cover 15 major tobacco companies across 36 countries and attempt to assign numerical values to their harm-reduction contributions by scoring them in areas such as strategy, marketing, lobbying, products, sales and expenditure.

In the first edition, Swedish Match and Philip Morris International (PMI) which funds FSFW and therefore the Index got the highest marks, in case you’re wondering, with China Tobacco at the bottom. It’s difficult to imagine the broad shape of the ranking changing for 2022, but there may well be some shifts in position. We’ll see later in the year.

Right now, though, the Index team is also making some changes to its methodology and inviting public comments. Time is short – the deadline is 10th June – but the issues are precise and clear, and anyone with an interest in the big picture of harm reduction will find that they raise questions worth pondering.

Changes are proposed in three main areas:

  • Whether US traditional oral products (dip and chewing tobacco) should be considered high-risk or reduced-risk.
  • What weighting, in calculating final scores, should be given to marketing expenditure.
  • How the “transformation” of a company’s product offer is calculated; the Index proposes reducing the significance of the higher-risk-to-reduced-risk ratio, and increasing the significance of pricing.

Meanwhile, although they’re not part of the current consultation, other changes being considered for the Index will likely spark plenty more discussion in the future.

The team is looking at “factoring into company scoring external factors such as country-specific tobacco legislation”, at “reviewing how divestments should be accounted for in scoring, considering that products divested will remain available to consumers in the marketplace”, and at “assessing actual marketing compliance as well as the policies companies have in place”.

The second and third of those, in particular, might open up some cans of worms…

A Dinner Lady Guide to Finding the Best E-Liquid Flavours

Stepping into the world of vape can be daunting at first – there is a wealth of information available, as well as plenty of different devices, e-liquid flavours, e-liquid formulations, and accessories. As there is no one-size-fits all in the vaping world, there can be an element of trial and error involved in finding the right vaping style and products for you.

When it comes to finding the best e-liquid and vape juice flavours in the UK, however, Dinner Lady’s range is unrivalled. From the best e-cig liquid to the best concentrates, Dinner Lady’s range of flavours and formulations are multi-award-winning.

SUMMARY

FORMULATIONS

Comprised of just four components: propylene glycol (PG), vegetable glycerin (VG), food-grade flavourings and nicotine, e-liquids are designed with flavour and vapour in mind.

While VG is a thick and syrupy liquid producing vapour, PG is of a lower viscosity and is a great medium for carrying flavour compounds. PG is the component to thank for your favourite flavoured e-liquids and VG is the component responsible for impressive clouds of vapour.

There is no one-size-fits all when it comes to e-liquids. In fact, the best e-liquid ratio varies depending on vape kit type and personal vaping preference. With this in mind, Dinner Lady created six different e-liquid formulations to choose from in over 150 different flavours to cater for all vaping styles and devices.

To help you find the perfect flavour and formulation, Dinner Lady are on hand with a comprehensive guide to finding the best e-cigarette liquid to suit your vaping habits.

Widely considered the best e-liquids in the UK due to their versatility, 50:50s combine even measures of PG and VG for a balanced production of flavour, throat hit and cloud-like vapour.

50:50s are compatible with a wide range of devices and coils but are best suited to higher resistance coils (1.0ohm and above with mouth to lung (MTL) capabilities). Available in 37 different flavours across six flavour ranges and four different nicotine strengths, 50:50s are a great starter liquid to help vapers gradually reduce nicotine intake. It should come as no surprise then, that 50:50s are one of the best Dinner Lady e-liquids and are popular with new and experienced vapers alike.

Like Nicotine Salts, 50:50s contain an even blend of PG and VG for a great balance of flavour and vapour. Unlike Nic Salts, however, 50:50s contain freebase nicotine which is less harsh on the throat than salt nicotine. Freebase nicotine is thought to be the purest form of nicotine and is made by adding ammonia to nicotine to increase its bioavailability.

A “next generation” e-liquid, Nicotine Salts consist of nicotine from naturally occurring salt that is found within tobacco leaves. It typically produces higher strengths of nicotine than other e-liquid formulations without being too harsh on the throat. It is also more easily absorbed into the bloodstream than e-liquids containing freebase nicotine.

Available in a selection of different flavours across the Desserts, Sweets, Fruits, Ice, Menthol and Tobacco ranges, Nicotine Salts are available in nicotine strengths of 20mg and 10mg. The two strengths allow vapers to gradually decrease their nicotine intake overtime to become completely smoke, vape and nicotine-free.

Like 50:50s, “30:70 e-liquids” refers to the balance of key components within an e-liquid. 30:70s contain a high VG content and produce dense clouds. Sometimes referred to as cloud-chasing juice or sub-ohm e-liquids, Dinner Lady’s 30:70s produce impressive vapour and flavour.

The high VG content makes 30:70s best suited to vape kits that are compatible with lower resistance coils (1.0ohm and below) for a direct to lung (DTL) vape with impressive vapour production. As the dense clouds tend to be milder, sweeter and smoother than e-liquids with a higher PG content, 30:70s produce a less intense throat hit and are thought to be the best vape e-juice for vapers wishing to vape all day.

Like 30:70s, Shortfills contain a high VG content that is great for sub ohm vaping. Unlike 30:70s, Shortfills do not contain any nicotine. This means that Shortfills are available to buy in much larger bottles while complying to TPD regulations in both the UK and EU vape markets.

Dinner Lady’s Shortfills contain 50ml of e-liquid within a 60ml bottle, thus allowing space to add a 10ml 18mg nicotine shot for a quick and convenient “shake n vape” that contains 3mg nicotine. As Shortfills contain much more e-liquid than any other formulation, Shortfills can last much longer and serve as a cost-effective alternative to 10ml bottles. They also allow much more control over your vaping habits by allowing you to vape with or without nicotine and adjust the nicotine strength.

Consisting entirely of PG, Concentrates are exactly what it says on the tin: e-liquids with a high flavour concentration for the best possible taste. Concentrates are a great starting point for vapers who like to fine-tune their vaping experience by mixing e-liquids to create a DIY flavour combination with an adjustable amount of vapour and nicotine.

With over 10 unique Dinner Lady flavours to choose from, it is unsurprising that Dinner Lady’s range of premium e-liquids are considered to be amongst the best e-liquid concentrates in the UK vape market.

From Desserts to Sweets, Menthol to Tobacco and Ice to Fruits, finding the best e-liquid flavours can be a time-consuming task and, in some cases, one of trial and error. With the right information, however, vapers can find the best e-cig liquid flavour in no time at all.

Launching in 2016 with a handful of dessert flavoured e-liquids, including the multi-award-winning Lemon Tart flavour, Dinner Lady’s range of vape products has expanded to include hundreds of fantastic flavours across six different flavour ranges.

Desserts

Where it all started… Dinner Lady’s Desserts range includes some of the best dessert flavoured e-liquids in the UK, the most notable of which being the multi-award-winning Lemon Tart – most recently voted Best Dessert flavour in the Ecigclick awards.

Firmly rooted in its dedication to nostalgia, the Desserts e-liquid range takes inspiration from classic sweet treats with a focus on fruity, rich flavours including the best strawberry vape juice – Strawberry Macaroon – and other favourites including Berry Tart and Blackberry Crumble.

Formerly known as the Tuck Shop collection, the Dinner Lady Sweets flavour range takes inspiration from classic sweets that vapers fondly remember from a time gone by. Combining the sugary notes of sherbet with sharp lemon, Lemon Sherbets is a much-loved e-liquid flavour that joins Bubble Gum, Jelly Bean, Apple Sours, Sweet Fruits, Watermelon Slices and Black Jack to form the Sweets collection.

Featuring 17 refreshing flavours including the best strawberry e-liquid, Dinner Lady’s Fruits range includes smooth and refreshing fruit combinations for a light and pleasant flavoured vape. Blending fruit flavours for a twist on classic pairings, Dinner Lady’s Berry Blast, Melon Twist, Purple Rain, Strawberry Coconut, Pink Wave, Kiwi Melon and Tropical Fruits join classics such as Blackcurrant, Cherry and Mixed Berry.

Available in all formulations you would expect – 50:50s, Nic Salts, Shortfills, Concentrates and even Dinner Lady’s Vape Pen disposable e-cigarette, the Fruits collection is sure to suit all flavour preferences.

Just because vape e-liquids are superheated into tasty clouds of flavour-filled vapour doesn’t mean vapers should lose their cool. Formerly known as the Summer Holidays range, Dinner Lady’s Ice range incorporates koolada to activate the same receptors as menthol without the love-or-hate minty flavour.

Blending classic fruit flavours with an ice cool exhale, the Ice range is popular with Ice and Menthol vaping fans alike. Presenting the best orange vape juice – Black Orange Crush – along with Lemon Sherbet Ice, Bubble Trouble ice, Apple Sours Ice, Mango Ice, Watermelon Slices Ice and Sweet Fusion Ice, the Ice range has something for vapers of all flavour preferences.

Replicating the cool and minty taste associated with menthol cigarettes, menthol e-liquids are a great option for former menthol cigarette smokers.

Dinner Lady’s Menthol range includes Blue Menthol, Cherry Menthol, Fresh Menthol, Ice Menthol and Spearmint, all of which combine fruity notes with ice cool menthol for a fresh vape. Providing a similar cool vape to that of the Ice range, Menthol incorporates the best of Ice and Menthol e-liquid flavours.

Popular with former smokers, Dinner Lady’s Tobacco range contains some of the best tobacco e-liquids in the UK. With four flavours – Smooth Tobacco, Caramel Tobacco, Mint Tobacco and Café Tobacco, each flavour aims to provide a familiar cigarette-like flavour to help break the habit and gradually lower nicotine intake.

Smooth Tobacco: combines woody and sweet flavours.

Caramel Tobacco: the best caramel e-liquid containing a blend of caramel, vanilla and honey.

Café Tobacco: the best coffee flavour e-liquid containing a blend of tobacco and coffee.

Mint Tobacco: light tobacco flavours with an icy menthol exhale.

Still searching for the best e-liquid and e-cig juice? Check out what our customers say in the following Dinner Lady e-liquid brand reviews:

★★★★★

Dinner Lady are one of the most popular UK e-liquid brands and for good reason. Many vapers know the brand due to their Lemon Tart flavour (which is excellent) but they have expanded the range in recent years to cover all bases from fruit to tobacco’s.

Not only that but they produce all flavours in a choice of 50PG/50VG, nic salt, shortfill (70VG) concentrates for the DIY enthusiasts. So no matter what type of vape device you use or what level of experience you have Dinner Lady have you covered.

We have recently reviewed most of the flavours on offer and across the board they offer quality. Even their tobacco and menthol flavours scored high across the board.

★★★★★

It’s clear to me that Vape Dinner Lady are still at the top of their game. Their mixologists have really hit these flavour profiles bang on the money and I am very excited to see what they come up with next.

I am curious how many crumbles and tarts are ate while comparing?

Their pastry/tart flavours bring me right back to the Sunday dinners of old with the hot crumble dessert. Is it any wonder that they find themselves continuously being nominated for awards including our very own Ecigclick awards which is one of the biggest that is actually voted by vapers.

Without doubt my favourite from this review was the Berry Tart, full marks for this one.

★★★★★

Damn, Dinner Lady. All of these flavors were absolutely delicious, and there’s very little bad I can say about them. What I really like about the range is that they’re subtle and taste like the real thing. I’d add that I usually pass on retro desserts. So it’s true, vaping really can expand your palette.

★★★★★

Ok, so I’ve been completely won over. I stand by what I said at the top of this review; I wasn’t entirely enthused by all of the previous Dinner Lady line. They were good e-liquids, I just didn’t rate them as highly as the rest of the team. However, this for me is true English dessert e-liquids at their best…..and I agree, they now deserve their place at the top of our list.

Also, it’s clear why they have called the line ‘Aroma,’ as soon as you open the bottles it’s as if you’re transported back to your Granny’s kitchen with the pleasant smell of baked lusciousness.

If my old school dinner ladies ever made desserts that tasted this good, I’m sure I’d be about 3 stone heavier! They are an impressive collection of bakery e-liquids, and it seems Dinner Lady have upped their game to dominate this category.

Altria Has Been Developing New Alternative Nicotine Products

0

As tobacco companies do their best to push into the alternatives’ market, their main challenge remains gaining credibility. “We know that cigarettes are dangerous and addictive,” said William F. “Billy” Gifford, Altria’s chief executive officer, in a speech to the Richmond Association for Business Economics recently. “And we know that the No. 1 expectation that society has for us as a company is to reduce the harm associated with cigarettes.”

Gifford, who became CEO of Altria in April 2020 after previously serving as vice chairman and chief financial officer and working the company in various leadership roles, added that it therefore makes sense that the company would focus on safer alternatives. “So for those adult smokers who can’t or won’t quit, it makes sense that we focus our resources on moving beyond smoking.”

Moving from being cigarettes-focused towards safer alternatives

In recent years, Altria has made various investments to move its business from being cigarettes-focused towards safer alternatives. In 2021, the company paid $372 million to buy a Switzerland-based maker of smokeless, oral nicotine products that are now being sold in the U.S. under the On! brand name.

Meanwhile, competitor British American Tobacco (BATS.L) has recently reported a 7% rise in full-year adjusted revenue, and also a dividend increase of 1.0% to 217.8 pence and a 2 billion pound share repurchase programme for 2022.

The tobacco company has also reported a 51% rise to 2.05 billion pounds in adjusted sales of its “new categories” product line which includes e-cigarettes, heated tobacco and oral nicotine products. And although this division has not generated any profit yet, BAT said that it was on track to report revenue of 5 billion pounds and profitability by 2025.

“Continued growth in new categories is a cornerstone of BAT’s long-term plans for success,” Third Bridge analyst Ross Hindle said. “With over 1.1 billion smokers still using combustibles, the opportunity to convert consumers towards New Categories is highly attractive.”

Most Popular Disposable Vape Flavors 2022

Introduction

Varieties are vital to vaping. Individuals often have quite specific flavor preferences when it comes to disposable vapes. There will always be those vapers who like a taste while others despise it. A poll of the best-selling disposable vapes currently available in the market and have made an effort to arrive at a unified opinion about the most popular flavors of vaporizers. We hope that this might serve as a guide that assists you in selecting the vape juice tastes that are most appealing to you.

Most Popular Vape Flavors

According to the results of the very own poll, the majority of vaporizer users favored a flavor that had a fruity apple taste, which received about a quarter of the vote. After this came the flavor of bubble gum.  The zesty lemon was the flavor that was selected the least by those who took part in our study; just 1.1 percent of vapers said that this was their favorite e-juice. Additionally located at the bottom of the spectrum where flavors such as raspberry (2.5 percent), menthol (3.4 percent), tobacco (5.7 percent), and mint (5.7 percent) (6.9 percent). The results of the survey are provided here for your use as a reference, given that individuals have varying preferences about their tastes. However, if you are unsure about what to choose, selecting one of the flavors that have received the most positive feedback can be a smart option. However, if you are unsure about what to choose, selecting one of the flavors that have received the most positive feedback can be a smart option.

How to choose the Best Vape flavors?

Since all you have to go on is the flavor description, reviews from vapers, and facts about the mix such as the PG/VG ratio, choosing the best vape juice flavor isn’t quite as straightforward as choosing good devices and atomizers, but there are a few things you can look out for to choose the right juices. The proportion of propylene glycol to vegetable glycerin (PG/VG) in an e-liquid isn’t going to determine whether or not it’s the best e-juice, but it is a significant factor in your personal preference, and if you’re looking for an e-liquid that will become your go-to, it’s best to find juices that have a ratio that’s comparable to your ideal.

Type of Flavors

There are many vape flavors on the market, from fruit and dessert flavors to more exotic and complex blends. The most common categories are as below:

Fruit flavor: Fruity tastes consistently rank among the most desired. They are easy to understand and readily identifiable.

Dessert flavor: They include things like cakes, pastries, and several other kinds of sweet dishes. Although chocolate and cream or custard could be more appropriately placed in their distinct category, they might still be included here.

Tobacco flavor: These e-liquids, which are also referred to as RY4s on occasion, include tobacco in addition to a variety of other components.

Menthol flavor:This might include the traditional menthol that is found in cigarettes as well as alternative tastes of menthol, such as peppermint or pure mint.

Candy flavor: Candies have their unique tastes, which are often inspired by classic sweets or candies. These flavors are often combined to create new confections.

Beverages flavor: Variations in coffee and tea tastes are quickly becoming the norm in vape juice beverage varieties, but cocktail flavors are also becoming more in demand.

Nicotine Level

Choosing an e-liquid containing nicotine is essential if you are trying to kick the habit of smoking. This will satisfy your nicotine cravings without exposing you to the harmful byproducts of burning tobacco. In the world of e-liquid nicotine, there are two main types: freebase nicotine and nicotine salts. Salts are a newer version of freebase that has a less severe effect and is available in larger concentrations. To begin quitting smoking, you should start with a nicotine dose comparable to what you were previously using in cigarettes. This is done by talking to a Vape Retailer who specializes in e-cigarettes about how often and how much you smoke. As a general rule, you begin with a high or medium level of nicotine and gradually lower it till you’re comfortable. If it takes you two to three puffs on the vaporizer to quench hunger, you’re in excellent shape. Vaping has the advantage that you’re in charge. Make use of the nicotine dose that works best for you. Many vapers keep a variety of e-liquid strengths on hand to handle a variety of circumstances. Higher-strength liquor could be chosen if they know it’ll be a difficult day. Now and again, they’ll go back to a lesser difficulty. In the future, but only after you’ve been vaping for a while and are certain that you won’t be resuming smoking. Starting at the 12-month mark is an option for some; waiting longer is not. This may be accomplished by gradually lowering your vaping frequency and/or nicotine intake. To avoid relapsing into smoking habits, you mustn’t minimize your puffing until you’re certain that you won’t have to increase it. Changing your behaviors, like not vaping when you typically do, and finally giving up vaping, might begin after you’ve overcome your nicotine addiction. Unlike medicine, there is no time restriction on how long you may keep vaping.

Vape Juice Description and Reviews

The explanations of various e-liquids range from straightforward statements of the core parts of the juice (often providing somewhat more information than the flavor’s name) up to pretentious and flowery descriptions detailing how the juice utilizes seven distinct varieties of vanilla and other elements of a similar nature.

There is only so much you can do to identify the greatest e-juice if you don’t try it for yourself, which is why suggestions from other vapers are very useful, particularly if you know that you have similar likes. You may spend a lot of time looking for the greatest e-juice, but you will never discover anything that is as excellent as if you had simply asked for advice on a forum or utilized a list like the ones that are above.

Conclusion

Vaping revolves almost entirely around the use of e-juice. It satisfies our need for nicotine and provides the taste that we like, but quitting smoking successfully requires more than just selecting the appropriate flavor to help you kick the habit. You also need to know how to take care of your juice and protect the health of your family.

US FDA bends to external pressures and lobbying over following science

0

The opinions within this blog reflect those of Tony Abboud and the Vapor Technology Association.

US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) actions in the name of public health threaten to have the opposite effect by leaving the vaping sector in the hands of big tobacco, a vaping association claims.

FDA requirements for premarket tobacco product applications (PMTAs) means that it is almost entirely tobacco companies only that have the resources to complete a successful application.

This means that millions of products which could help smokers move away from conventional cigarettes are now barred from the market, while the few that have been approved are largely from the same companies selling the conventional cigarettes, according to the Vapor Technology Association (VTA)’s executive director Tony Abboud (pictured).

“Thus far the agency has only approved a mere handful of the millions of products that are on the market that could be used to enable adult smokers to quit,” Abboud told ECigIntelligence. “We’re now moving towards a marketplace that will be devoid of options for adult smokers and an industry that is controlled by the cigarette companies.”

Abboud accused the FDA of not following the science and bending too easily to pressure from external forces such as campaigners and political lobbyists.

“The FDA is at a crossroads,” he said. “It has enormous power which could hasten the end of combustible smoking because the fastest way to do that is to approve less harmful products that help smokers quit.”

Politics over science

He added that the recent decision to treat synthetic nicotine the same as tobacco-derived nicotine was an example of external pressures from lobbying leading to politics being chosen over science. The change was included in a sweeping $1.5tn omnibus spending bill, and became effective on 14th April.

“Some companies announced they were moving towards synthetic nicotine because it wasn’t regulated by the agency. That caught [regulator] attention so, instead of examining the innovation behind it, they decided to regulate synthetic nicotine as tobacco-derived nicotine under the cover of night,” said Abboud.

This was demonstrated by the very short timeframe given to companies for submitting PMTAs for their products. “The actors behind the push to regulate synthetic nicotine offered a short timeframe because they’re not interested in these products being on the market – they want to remove them from the market,” he said.

The decision failed to consider the potential benefits to consumer health that would result from having “a cleaner and purer form of nicotine in the industry”, according to Abboud.

“Because of the manner in which synthetic nicotine is manufactured it’s a patented scientific process that is replicable and traceable down to batch level. It’s devoid of the impurities that plague tobacco-derived nicotine,” he said. “All the innovation to date has been about the way in which we can deliver nicotine. This is the first innovation in the active ingredient.”

Lobbying is crushing vaping

He also claimed that the move was made to specifically benefit the companies using tobacco-derived nicotine as they had undertaken the time-consuming and costly scientific testing required for the PMTA process. “It’s an intentional use of the legislative process to control the marketplace because [synthetic nicotine products] will be competition,” he said.

He said he believed vaping products were being crushed by lobbying from both sides. Lobbying had led to the decision on synthetic nicotine being unilaterally made by congress, otherwise it would have gone through a public hearing process.

But at the same time, lobbying from anti-tobacco organisations is also the cause of heavy restrictions on things such as flavours in e-liquids. There should be two pillars of concern for public health when it comes to vaping: youth uptake and adult smoking cessation. The one should not be considered without the other.

But millions of dollars are being spent by groups such as Parents Against Vaping (PAVE) and the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids (CFTFK) that have taken a strict prohibitionist narrative which ignores the role vaping could play in the second pillar to concentrate solely on the dangers it poses for youth uptake of nicotine.

“We have a group of nicotine and vaping nihilists who have ignored the notion that vaping is a tool for harm reduction,” he said. “Even some of the pro-vaping scientists find themselves being attacked within the scientific community because of the money and funding behind some of the science.”

Lack of choice could lead to black market expansion

Ironically though, Abboud has much the same criticism of the FDA as those same health lobbyists, with both sides critical of the amount of time the FDA has taken in approving PMTAs. The FDA’s latest status report said it wouldn’t finish reviewing the remaining PMTA applications until at least June 2023.

Not only are these delays crippling firms that have invested in developing new products, it’s also reducing the element of choice of approved products on the market for consumers and creating a more robust black market, Abboud said.

In the absence of choice in a disorderly and unregulated marketplace, consumers will turn to illicit products and unscrupulous firms will benefit if the FDA fails to take enforcement action to clean up the marketplace.

“There are 10m vapers out there – they’re not going to stop vaping,” he added. “They’ll find a way and look for their product of choice elsewhere.”

Despite this, Abboud believes the US vaping industry will soldier on.

“Given the array of money and slanted and misleading media attention and the number of interest groups that have aligned against this product segment, it’s amazing that we’re still in business today,” said Abboud. “But, as dire as it seems, this industry will always punch above its weight and the one thing we do know is that there are more than 10m consumers, adult smokers who are committed to this segment. The industry will not go away despite the best efforts of these groups to make it go away.”

Tony Abboud will be speaking at the Next Generation Nicotine Delivery (NGND) USA 2022 event at the Hilton Miami Airport Blue Lagoon from 22nd to 23rd June 2022.

How to Safely Charge Your E-Cig – Dinner Lady

0

With more and more smokers turning to less harmful alternatives to tobacco products comes a rise in reports about dangers associated with vaping. With several horror stories circulating the vape world of exploding e-cigarettes and e-cig battery fires, vaping may be a source of apprehension for many smokers.

Powered by Lithium-Ion batteries that need proper care and attention, it is important for vapers to understand how to charge e-cigarettes safely.

Like all batteries, e-cig batteries need proper care and attention. When maintained properly, vape batteries are under warranty for a length of time. But batteries don’t last forever. Whether it be the battery in your TV remote or an e-cig battery, they should be cared for properly and disposed of when no longer fit for purpose. When not cared for properly, batteries can be unsafe to use, even causing dangerous explosions.

HOW TO RECHARGE AN E-CIG SAFELY

Charging an e-cig safely is important, not only to keep your e-cig working to its best potential, but to protect you and others from any harm caused by a corrupted battery.

1. Adhere to the manufacturer’s instructions
2. Protect your e-cig from extreme temperatures
3. Only use the recommended batteries
4. Charge your vape kit on a clean, flat and inflammable surface
5. Keep your vape kit’s safety features enabled
6. Don’t use a damaged device or corroded battery

CHOOSING THE BEST BATTERIES AND CHARGERS

Using the right e-cig battery charger is vital to protect your batteries. Where possible, use the USB cable provided with your vape kit and always follow the manufacturer instructions.

If you cannot use the USB included with your vape kit, always buy from a reputed seller. While USBs and other charging cables are widely available at cheap prices, they are not always official products. What’s more, a cheap e-cig pen charger may not have the same safety features and protections as those from a reputable vape manufacturer or supplier. Remember, buy cheap, buy twice.

It’s also important not to mix and match chargers from different e-cigarettes. The best e-cig battery charger is one that is specially made for your particular vape kit or is compatible with the power input of your e-cigarette. The best e-cig mod battery charger will have been tried and tested with your device. So if you suddenly find that your e-cig battery charger is not working, head down to your local vape shop or to a reputable online vape store where you can find a suitable charger for your vape kit.

Charging an e-cigarette with an integrated battery

If your e-cig has a built-in battery, you can use the included USB cable to connect to your vape kit. Typically, an e-cig charger cable should be used in a laptop or similar device with USB or USB-C connectivity, not connected to the mains. While this is not a hard-fast rule, most e-cig chargers do not have the voltage requirements to suit mains charging. It’s important to keep this in mind when buying a new e-cig charger.

Charging an e-cigarette with a removable battery

If your e-cig has a removable battery, remove the batteries and place in an external charger like the Nitecore i2 or similar. Only use the charger on a flat surface away from flammable objects. Keep an eye on the batteries and do not leave them unattended. When fully charged, remove the batteries from the charger and safely return to your e-cig.

THINGS TO REMEMBER

  • If your batteries show any signs of corrosion, dispose of safely and replace with new batteries.
  • If your e-cig requires more than one battery, always use married batteries. For eg. two of the same brand.
  • Please note: not all 18650 batteries are suitable for vape kits.
  • Use a battery case to transport your batteries or to protect when not in use.
  • Always buy from a reputable seller to avoid low quality, counterfeit batteries.
