In a striking blow against illegal trade, Turkish authorities have made a significant dent in smuggling activities in Van, a key border town. A total of 24 suspects have been arrested in a series of meticulously planned anti-smuggling operations.
The operation, which unfolded over the past week, led to the discovery and seizure of an astonishing array of contraband. Among the items confiscated were 2535 packs of cigarettes, highlighting the ongoing battle against tobacco smuggling. But it wasn’t just traditional tobacco products that were intercepted; modern vaping paraphernalia was also a significant part of the haul. Authorities seized 367 e-cigarettes along with 43 bottles of e-cigarette liquid, a find that underscores the evolving nature of smuggling operations.

In a digital age twist, 405 mobile phones and 100 mobile phone accessories were also among the seized items, pointing to a tech-savvy aspect of the smuggling ring. Additionally, 181 cigars and 367 items containing explicit content were recovered, further showcasing the diverse nature of the smuggled goods.
Interestingly, the authorities also found 1000 servings of instant noodles and 6 passports, adding a unique dimension to the operation’s outcome.
