Four Stores Shut Down in Illinois City for Selling E-Cigarettes to Minors

The Mayor of Joliet City, Terry Darcy, announced on November 21st that the city has taken action against four stores that violated laws prohibiting the sale of e-cigarettes to minors. This crackdown comes after several complaints were received in September regarding the sale of e-cigarette materials to underage individuals.

According to reports, these four companies were found to have violated regulations during an operation conducted on November 15th. As a result, they have been issued an emergency shutdown order lasting seven days.

Mayor Darcy stated, “We are committed to strictly enforcing laws against illegal activities and have zero tolerance for violators.”

The Illinois Department of Public Health defines e-cigarettes, vaping devices, and other related products as battery-powered devices that allow users to inhale e-cigarette liquids. Illinois law, effective from July 1, 2019, prohibits the sale of these products to individuals under the age of 21.

The four stores that were closed down are:

– 420 Smokes and Vapes, located at 1532 Rt. 59
– 420 Smokes and Vapes, also found at 1551 Plainfield Road
– MiVape, situated at 1112 W. Jefferson St.
– Tobacco Empire, located at 1105 Essington Rd.

It is essential to prioritize the enforcement of regulations to protect the health and well-being of minors. Selling e-cigarettes to underage individuals can have severe health consequences and must be rigorously addressed to discourage such behavior.
