Vaper Expo 2022

Did you attend Vaper Expo 2022 at the NEC?

I visited on Saturday 28th and took loads of photos and met some lovely people.

You can catch up with my view of the event here – “Vaper Expo 2022 – From a Shells Eye view“.

I have never been to this before but have seen our Neil Humber’s reports from previous Expo’s and it did seem that this year didn’t get such a high turnout?

Plus the amount of disposable brands were disproportionate – dominating most of the exhibition.

I know in previous years CBD did the same!

Media Bias In The UK?

I covered in my 13th May Vape News about Michael Landl’s article studying media reports on vaping – you can read his article here.

As there were only a few articles used from the UK I decided to do my own tracker.

UK Vape News Tracker – status 1/6/2022

The UK vape news sentiment tracker is live here on our site – but I will continue to track media reports hopefully for the next 6 months to give a snapshot of how the UK media portrays vaping…

Time For Some Rare Common Sense!

The Property Rights Alliance (PRA) have published a paper analysing vaping as a harm reduction method.

pra

This paper is just so full of common sense – covering topics such as:

  • Countries that embrace vaping witness a decrease in smoking rates that is twice as fast as the global average.
  • Access to flavours makes quitting easier.
  • Flavour bans push vapers back to smoking, to the black market and to mixing their own liquids.
  • Flavour bans lead to negative economic consequences.

FDA Being Biased? Surely Not!

The American Council on Science and Health (ACSH) are questioning the validity of vaping research funded by the FDA (US Food and Drink Administration).

One study in particular titled “Healthcare utilisation and expenditures attributable to current e-cigarette use among US adults” is one such study which is under fire.

This study basically said that vaping increases health care costs.

However this study was full of flaws and was funded by the FDA who later publicly denied their involvement. Shady as…

Also questioned is how the assessment of devices for FDA approval seems to have made products from larger tobacco industry owned brands a higher priority.

You can read the whole article here – “Study Raises Questions About Anti-Vaping Bias At FDA“.

TPD Have Your Say!

The European Commission (EC) is asking for feedback on its Tobacco Products Directive (TPD).

ec consultation

Obviously in the UK this is not relevant to us but Republic of Ireland is still part of the EU.

The EC website states…

“In light of the rapid rise of emerging products and recent technical developments, the Commission will evaluate the tobacco control legislative framework, namely product regulation and advertising, promotion and sponsorship, in the broader context of other related tobacco control policies. This evaluation will assess to what extent the framework has fulfilled its goals and whether it is able to support a ‘Tobacco-Free Generation’ by 2040, as announced in the Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan.”

The consultation period ends 17th June 2022 and you can find out more on the EC page – “Evaluation of the legislative framework for tobacco control“.

If you are in an EU Member state make sure to get your voice heard and promote the benefits of vaping!

I was first alerted to this by an article on the Velvet Glove Iron Fist blog who are urging people to speak out to try and counteract the anti-vaping brigade.

Nicotine Vaping Helps Smokers Quit – No Way!

A PubMed study published on 28th April 2022 discussed the findings from the ITC Four Country Smoking and Vaping surveys regarding quitting smoking.

This article in particular is looking at the difference between those who vaped nicotine and those who did not when quitting smoking.

Highlights of the findings

3516 people responded from UK, Australia, Canada and the US and the results were all self reported.

Anyway to cut a long story short it was found using NVP (Nicotine Vaping Products) daily increased abstinence from smoking cigarettes.

“These findings are consistent with the concept that complete cigarette substitution may be more likely to be achieved when smokers vape nicotine daily.”

You can read the full text article here on Science Direct – “Differences in cigarette smoking quit attempts and cessation between adults who did and did not take up nicotine vaping: Findings from the ITC four country smoking and vaping surveys“.

Bullshit Radar…

The WHO (World Health Organisation) is not exactly an authority on Vaping!

They publish a Q&A (Question and Answer) page about e-cigarettes which got an update on 25th May 2022.

You can read it here – “Questions and Answers – Tobacco: E-cigarettes“.

who qa

To say it is a steaming pile of horseshit is not an understatement!

For instance – I quote…

“E-cigarette emissions typically contain nicotine and other toxic substances that are harmful to both users, and non-users who are exposed to the aerosols second-hand. Some products claiming to be nicotine-free (ENNDS) have been found to contain nicotine.”

Anyway I am not the only one who thinks this absolutely stinks – the wonderful Clive Bates has hit back in his article – “Fake news alert: WHO updates its post-truth fact sheet on e-cigarettes“.

clive bates bio

Clive rips the Q&A apart and puts right the wrongs in the original text.

It is shocking really as the WHO are relied upon for facts by many countries and authorities and they spew out this poo??

Environmental Issues & Vaping

It seems to me looking on social media there is a buzz about the environmental issues caused by smoking and vaping.

For instance this this article in The Guardian highlights how cigarettes contain single use plastics which take 10 years to degrade. Apparently the cigarette industry creates almost 800,000 metric tonnes of toxic waste.

Also this concern is appropriate for vaping, the issue of Disposable Vapes being a huge one regarding the plastic, metal and chemical waste created by these.

cigarette ends litter

The solution of course is not easy but there are suggestions of making the tobacco industry responsible for the waste it creates.

Also some of the disposable vape brands either have recycling schemes or use more sustainable materials – but there is still a long way to go.

Single? Vaper or Smoker? Oh Dear…

Apparently according to this article in the Daily Mirror, smokers are more likely to be rejected when dating than non smokers.

turn offs

Oh and even vaping is a turn off too?

According to their study of 2,000 non smokers it was found 38% of online daters would “swipe left” if the dating profile showed smoking or vaping.

The survey was apparently commissioned by the nicotine pouch brand ZYN. Whilst I am not surprised about the smoking aspect – I am shocked that vaping would be a passion killer?

vaping heart

Being a hopeless romantic I am sure “love will conquer all” and if you can get the smoking love of your life to quit with vaping I’m sure it will all have a happy ending…

Wishing you a great Bank Holiday and fingers crossed the weather will be good too!

I did want to put a vape in the poster below – but I might get “sent to the tower”…

jubilee

See you next week!
