Vape Shops NOT Essential Says UK Government

Is the Door Shut On UK Vape Shops?

Vape shops are NOT essential according to the UK Government – or at least that’s what one MP has stated in the Houses of Parliament!

Though saying that, the MP in question is Ms Nadine Dorries and she can be a little off message at times…allegedly

The lady in question also seems to confuse tobacco smoke with e-cigarette vapour and for some strange reason links a study into HIV to prove her point…

Strange indeed…

In answer to the parliamentary question:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, if he will reconsider the decision to close specialist shops selling vaping products during the November 2020 COVID-19 lockdown in England.

She replied:

Hygiene and social distancing measures are vitally important for reducing the transmission risk of COVID-19.

We know that the virus spreads readily in any indoor environment where members of different households and/or support bubbles spend time together, so the transmission risk in indoor settings, such as specialist shops selling vaping products, remains high.

On this basis the decision was made to close non-essential shops during the November 2020 national restrictions.

At the University of Massachusetts Amherst have linked inflammation in the body to the intensity of tobacco smoking among people with HIV.

Their study found positive trends between intensity, duration and pack-years of smoking and inflammation in HIV-positive people, taking into account highly active antiretrovial therapy (HAART).

No idea why she’s linking tobacco smoke and HIV to vape shops…like I said, this particular MP can be more than a little out of step.

I’d like to point my learned lady to the leaked study from California.

An undercover operation sampled the air in vape shops and found it was cleaner than outside in the street!

I covered that in the article: Is Vaping Safe? Is Vaping Dangerous When Pregnant? What About 2nd Hand Vaping?

They tried to cover-up the study’s findings, however prolific vape advocate Professor Michael Siegel received the leaked results…ha!

OK, please don’t forget there is an ongoing petition organized by VPZ urging the UK Government to class vape shops as essential and you really should sign it:

Consider urgent action to grant specialist vape retailers essential status

It’s not that far off reaching the number required for the Government to discuss the issue – but come on everyone – let’s push this all over social media!

As vapers you can also have your say on the new laws regarding e-cigarettes.

It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to shape UK vape legislation – so what the hell are you waiting for?

National No Smoking Day – Proof Vaping Helps Smokers Quit

If a smoker of 60 years can quit using e-cigarettes then anyone can!

Leicester City council’s stop smoking service is a trail blazer when it comes to using e-cigs to help smokers quit.

no smoking day 2021 UK

It was one of the first to pioneer vaping as a quit cessation method and since then has helped thousands of smokers quit.

It has chosen National No Smoking Day to launch its new tobacco control strategy and is using an ex-smoker as an example.

Pauline had smoked for 60 years, but after a cancer scare sought out the advice of the council’s Live Well service.

With advice and support she was able to quit using patches and a vape kit – she points out the e-cigarette was particularly effective adding:

I was diagnosed with breast cancer and told that I had to stop smoking before my operation. I went to see my GP and they gave me the number of the stop smoking service – 0116 454 4000.

I quit immediately, using patches and a vape. That was seven months ago, and I haven’t smoked a single cigarette since.

I can’t stress enough how valuable to me it’s been to get phone calls from Live Well.

Without that element of the support it would have been much harder, but being accountable to someone other than myself – and being reminded how well I was doing – was a real game changer.

A spokesman for the city’s public health department said:

Giving up smoking isn’t easy, but I can safely say it’s a decision you’ll never regret.

We know that quitting with specialist support significantly increases your chances of quitting for good.

It’s a decision that has immediate benefits for your health.

Within just eight hours of quitting your body’s oxygen level will return to normal and after a few days you will start to find your breathing feels easier.

Remember Pauline’s story – it is never too late to quit.

BTW: any councils reading this would do well to take a lead from Leicester City…

TV Doc Says Smokers Should Switch To E-cigarettes!

A celebrity TV doctor has teamed up with Yorkshire Cancer Research to encourage smokers to make the switch to safer and healthier e-cigarettes.

Dr Amir Khan, a GP from Bradford, is a regular guest on the UK’s breakfast programme Good Morning Britain, and appears in a documentary dispelling the myths around e-cigarettes.

Vaping Demystified is a 30 minute documentary and Dr Khan uses it to tackle the bad press vaping receives and delves deep into the safety of e-cigarettes and vaping.

Dr Khan said:

As doctors, we learn about the dangers of smoking right from the offset.

It can affect almost every body system in a detrimental way. We know that cigarettes contain about 6,000 different dangerous chemicals.

My view on vaping is that it is definitely better than cigarettes, I think for me as a GP vaping is a good halfway point between smoking and stopping smoking.

If vaping helps you to stop smoking in the long term that is a good thing.

Wow – that makes a refreshing change – a doctor promoting vaping!

Paul Lambert from Yorkshire Cancer Research says:

Vaping has been around for more than a decade now and a Public Health England study revealed it is 95 per cent less harmful than smoking.

It’s not risk-free, but compared to smoking there’s a clear winner.

There is a bit of a misunderstanding among smokers about vaping.

We want to reinforce the idea of stopping smoking now.

There are nicotine patches and other methods, but vaping is a much less harmful way of consuming nicotine.

Loving that last line!
