PMTA Tracking Site Launched

Vape PMTA is a new website designed to show vapers in America exactly what products are deemed legal for sale.

Following the deadline for the Pre Market Tobacco Application, only vape gear with one submitted can be legally sold.

You can read more about the PMTAs here:

It’s a clever idea and has launched way ahead of a similar database planned by the FDA.

The site shows vaping vendors that have submitted PMTAs and will track the progress through the process.

Vaporesso has won a law suit worth millions of dollars.

Parent company SMOORE had filed the court case back in October against numerous defendants citing both counterfeit and trademark infringements.

SMOORE-law suit

Last week a New York federal judge awarded the company $5.4 million which means fines of around $50,000 for each of the 100+ defendants.

A statement from the company reads:

Smoore filed the complaint in October alleging trademark counterfeiting and infringement against defendants located in China but conducting business in the U.S. and other countries by means of their Merchant Storefronts on some online marketplace platforms.

In the same lawsuits, Smoore settled with a significant number of defendant sellers who paid compensation for infringement and cooperated to identify their sources of supply of counterfeit products.

Vaporesso has gone from strength to strength and it’s parent company SMOORE is now the world’s largest vaping device manufacturer in terms of revenue, accounting for 16.5% of the total market share, as of last year.

Good to see at least some good news around vaping coming out of America.

JUUL To Shed More Jobs?

JUUL is considering further reductions of its workforce in a major global shake up of its operation.

Back in May I wrote about rumours the company was planning on withdrawing the brand from sale in parts of Europe, and the areas now targeted have grown.

In an announcement on its website earlier this week JUUL confirmed this was a distinct possibility:

…we will be making a significant global reduction in force, and we will be exploring the possibility of exiting a variety of markets in EMEA and APAC that have not provided the kind of return necessary given the cost to continue investing in the market.

In any potential new market, we would ensure that we can have science and evidence-based conversations with stakeholders before entering and that vapor products can effectively compete with combustible cigarettes.

The company said there’s no decision yet on how many employees could be laid off – however some media outlets are reporting it could be a much as 50%.

JUUL has submitted a PMTA for its product and it will be very interesting to see if it passes on merit rather than its alleged reputation as the vape of choice for young people.
