Mint Vape Juice vs. Menthol Vape Juice: What’s the Difference

Even those that have been vaping for a while can get a little confused when it comes to identifying the difference between mint vape juice, menthol vape juice, and vape liquids with the term ‘ice’ attached to their names. Many people even believe that mint and menthol are the same things, but there are some differences between the two flavors.

In the following article, we’ll take a closer look at the differences between mint and menthol vape liquid, how they affect different flavors, what you need to know before choosing your vape liquid, and much more! So, if you’ve been curious about trying mint or menthol, you’ll now have all the information you need.

What Is Mint?

Mint is a herb and is widely used as an ingredient in cooking as well as other recipes. The mint family includes other common herbs, including peppermint, wintergreen, spearmint, and lavender. You’ll probably recognize many of these herbs from popular essential oils and also as flavorings in a variety of vape liquids.

How Does Mint Affect Your Vape Juice?

Mint is often used to balance out other vape liquids. So, if you had a vape liquid that was too sweet, rich, bitter, or tart, then mint could be added to help try and balance out the flavor. In addition, people often find the flavor and aroma of mint refreshing, and it can help to elevate the effects of other flavors.

What Is Menthol?

Within the mint plant, there are a variety of other chemicals. However, menthol is easily the most well-known chemical component of mint. It’s menthol that gives mint that famous ‘cooling sensation’ that you’re probably already familiar with.

That chilling feeling is why menthol is often isolated from the mint plant and then used in a variety of different products, including medicines, vape liquids, health products, and beauty products. You’ll also commonly find menthol in most cold and flu medicines.

What Does Menthol Taste Like?

Like mint, menthol is a common ingredient in many vape liquids. What you may not know is menthol, once isolated from the mint plant, has no flavor! After isolation, all you are left with is that chilling or cooling sensation but no flavor at all. You probably didn’t know this, but menthol is an organic compound found naturally in various other forms. Menthol added to a vape juice will give you a cooling sensation on your lips, in your mouth, throat, and lungs as you inhale and exhale.

Why Does Menthol Give You a Cold Sensation?

That’s a great question! Menthol contains chemicals that attach themselves to the neurons inside your mouth when you inhale. This causes the ion channel to open and gives your receptors the feeling of being exposed to coolness. This message is then sent to your brain, which translates into a cool sensation. Interesting fact, if you drink a cool glass of water after vaping menthol, your brain will think that it’s much colder than it really is!

What’s the Difference Between Mint and Menthol?

To put it very simply, mint is a flavor, and menthol is not. However, not all mint-flavored vape liquids will give you the cooling sensation of an actual menthol vape liquid. Due to the extraction methods used, artificial flavoring and synthetic flavoring, many mint vape liquids contain no menthol at all.

It’s also important to note that adding menthol to a vape liquid can increase that ‘throat hit’ feeling and effect and make it feel harsher than it really is. This is particularly important to note when you’re buying nic salt e-liquids as the menthol effect on throat hits can be even more noticeable.

What’s the Difference Between Ice and Menthol?

The ice part of e-liquid is always generally menthol in any e-liquids. However, many manufacturers label their e-liquids as ice rather than menthol just because it sounds a little cooler than just saying plain menthol.

What to Know Before Choosing a Mint or Menthol Vape Juice

Now you should have an obvious idea about the difference between mint vape liquid and menthol vape liquid. Before you choose to buy your next mint or menthol vape liquid, there are some things you need to consider, including:

  • Strength– The higher the nicotine level of your vape liquid, the stronger the throat hit will be and the harsher the effects. Menthol can make that
  • Throat Hit– That sensation you experience at the back of your throat when you inhale is known as the throat hit. If you love throat hits, you’ll love adding menthol, but if you don’t, that’s something you need to consider.
  • Safety– Before you choose any vape juice take the time to check out their reviews and customer feedback, what ingredients they use, and what sort of quality assurances they give on their website.

How To Choose The Right Vape Juice?

Choosing the right vape juice can always be a little hit or miss when you first start vaping. We highly recommend trying various flavors and strengths until you narrow down what flavor profiles you prefer and how strong they are. Rather than buy large bulk amounts of flavors at the beginning, try shopping for flavor sample packs.

The nicotine question that is suddenly back on the political agenda

0

Rumours circulating this week that the Biden administration is about to put its weight behind mandatory nicotine reduction in combustibles will have been music to the ears of 22nd Century Group, if few others outside the worlds of tobacco control and politics. And questions are sure to arise as to how it might affect e-cigarettes too, either in the form of increased (or reduced) competition or possible parallel regulation.

22nd Century is the company which late last year obtained modified risk tobacco product (MRTP) orders from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for two of its very-low-nicotine cigarettes (VLNCs), containing around 96% less nicotine than standard combustibles.

The FDA’s support for reducing nicotine is nothing new; former commissioner Scott Gottlieb was talking about it back in 2018, and though the issue disappeared from the spotlight for a while it has always been lurking. Last year’s MRTPs, and the increasing (largely misleading) demonisation of nicotine itself rather than tobacco smoking specifically, make it no surprise that the VLNC concept has returned to the forefront.

If mandatory reduction were introduced, who would benefit? 22nd Century (which is already reporting encouraging results from trial sales in Chicago), obviously, and presumably other tobacco companies which would, however unwillingly, have to convert their existing brands.

For vapour and heated tobacco, the devil would be in the detail. The signs so far are that nicotine reductions would not necessarily apply to them, in which case retaining the capability to deliver current nicotine levels would confer a very significant competitive advantage over reduced-nicotine combustibles.

However, given the generally negative policy-making mood toward nicotine in general and vaping in particular, it’s not inconceivable there would be political pressure to include them – even if there would be an equally strong imperative to provide some kind of credible, regulated off-ramp for smokers who won’t put up with VLNCs.

Don’t hold your breath

Nothing will happen quickly. Even if the White House does weigh in, the FDA will still need to formulate a rule and open it for comment; there will be opposition to contend with, from the tobacco industry (this time with defensible science on its side) and likely from the tobacco states too.

There is a political dimension as well, with the midterms coming later this year and another presidential election in 2024.

Most tobacco control measures (for example Tobacco 21 or health warnings) do not directly impact existing smokers, or (as with public place smoking restrictions) only inconvenience them. But mandatory reduction of nicotine to minimal amounts threatens their habit existentially, and although there is some evidence to suggest that smokers are less likely than non-smokers to vote, this could encourage them to do so.

With many elections depending on relatively small majorities, it raises the prospect of political parties or individual candidates opposing VLNCs specifically to push smokers to the ballot box. Indeed, 22nd Century’s FDA-permitted claim that reducing nicotine will “help you to smoke less” could become a test of smokers’ oft-expressed intentions to quit; many may, in reality, prefer to follow the lead of St Augustine when he asked the Lord to “make me pure – but not yet”.

Make Your Own E-Lliquid Flavours at Home with Dinner Lady’s Guide

0

Have you found your favourite Dinner Lady flavour? But found yourself wishing you could alter the consistency? Perhaps you’d add more VG for excellent vapour production?

If you’ve thought about mixing your own e-liquid supplies but are not sure how to make your own e-liquid at home, this guide is for you. Read on to find out what you need to make unique e-liquid flavours.

COMPONENT ONE: FLAVOUR CONCENTRATES

Determining what your e-liquid tastes like, flavour concentrates are the most important component in DIY e-liquids.

Concentrates consist entirely of Propylene Glycol (PG) and food-grade flavourings. Alone, PG is a great flavour carrier that can be mixed with nicotine and VG diluent to create all vaping styles and taste preferences.

There are plenty of flavours to choose from, and each Concentrate can be combined with others to concoct unique flavour profiles.

COMPONENT TWO: NICOTINE

Like Shortfills, Concentrates are nicotine-free and nicotine is an optional addition to DIY e-liquids. You can choose to mix your DIY formulations with nicotine to create an e-liquid with a strength that is best suited to you, or completely omit nicotine from your liquid.

Nicotine Shots can be added to flavour concentrates to create an e-liquid with a nicotine strength of your choice. Adding a 5ml, 18mg Nic Shot to a 30ml Concentrate will create an e-liquid with a 3mg nicotine strength. Adding a 10ml, 18mg Nic Shot to a 30ml bottle will create an e-liquid with 6mg nicotine.

COMPONENT THREE: VG DILUENT

Vegetable Glycerin (VG) is of a thicker consistency than PG and creates large clouds of vapour. Depending on how much vapour you like, VG can be mixed with concentrates for a cloud-chasing experience.

ADDITIONAL COMPONENTS: BOTTLES, LABELS AND MORE

Spare, empty bottles are needed to add your final e-liquid mixture to. Labels are also handy to note down each component, making sure that you can replicate the concoction if there’s something you particularly like.

Vapers should be careful when handling and storing any DIY e-liquid component, taking care to keep out of reach of children and minimise skin contact.

MAKING YOUR OWN E-LIQUIDS AT HOME

DIY vape juice can be made with as little as three components: Concentrates, VG diluent and, if required, Nicotine Shots. Bottles and labels are handy to store your components and finished e-liquids clearly.

A South London Council Will be Handing Out Free Vapes to Pregnant Women

0

Research conducted last year had suggested that financial incentives would encourage pregnant women to quit smoking. The this effect, the NHS had launched a guidance, which estimated that for every 1,000 pregnant women offered vouchers, 177 would stop smoking. “Evidence from the UK showed that schemes in which a maximum of around £400 could be gained in vouchers staggered over time (with reductions for each relapse made) were effective and cost effective.”

The guidance, had highlighted that women should undergo biochemical tests to prove that they have stopped smoking before receiving the vouchers. Moreover, it added, healthcare staff should give clear and up-to-date information regarding e-cigarettes to anyone interested in using them to quit smoking, whilst mentioning that their long-term health effects are still uncertain.

Subsequently, a pilot program was launched in East Cheshire situated in North West of England. The location was chosen as it has an above than the national average smoking rate, with 10% of pregnant residents continuing to smoke.

Vape vouchers worth up to £400

On the other hand, Lambeth council is planning on helping pregnant women save thousands of pounds by giving out vouchers worth up to £400 (almost $500) that they can spend on vapes. Over 3,000 Lambeth families struggle financially due to their smoking habits, according to council estimates.

“The council is soon to start providing free vape products, as part of the stop smoking service, to smokers who are pregnant and/or are carers of young children,” said Cllr Kind, cabinet member for children and young people. “This is aimed at improving the health of the family and saving money in the process of approximately £2,000 per year per family. It is estimated that over 3,000 households in Lambeth fall under the poverty line due to smoking and many of these households include children.”

Vapes can be prescribed for smoking cessation

Meanwhile last October, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency published a guidance stating that any approved vaping products, will be made available for doctors to prescribe. “This country continues to be a global leader on healthcare, whether it’s our Covid-19 vaccine rollout or our innovative public health measures reducing people’s risk of serious illness,” said Health Secretary Sajid Javid.

“Opening the door to a licensed e-cigarette prescribed on the NHS has the potential to tackle the stark disparities in smoking rates across the country, helping people to stop smoking wherever they live and whatever their background,” added Javid, who has in recent weeks been criticized for suggesting a smoking ban outside pubs and restaurants.

Where and When Do You Love to Vape

0

Our Blog

by Alan Johnson

on

Aug 02, 2022

We’ve all had a sneaky vape somewhere that probably wasn’t ideal, but there’s a good chance we all have our favorite places to vape at the same time. Some may just be memorable times and locations that you’ve vaped. Others could be a regular favorite location that you love to fire your vape up at.

best disposable vape- beco beak 4000

One of the best things about vaping is that it’s 100% portable. You can take your vaporizer with you, and this allows you to vape while you have fun or even experience some of the most scenic locations in the world.

At the same time, you can whip out your vaporizer and have a vape almost 24/7, day or night. So when you compare vaping to smoking, you really have so many more options. For a lot of people, vaping has changed their lives.

In the following article, we’ll take a look at some of the regular and popular places and times that vapers love to get their vape on! If you have a favorite location or regular place to vape, then drop a comment below! We’d love to hear about it!

Some of the Most Popular Vaping Locations and Occasions!

We all have our favorite places to vape. For some people, their favorite place could be the beach, a scenic lookout, or just relaxing and chilling with friends. One of the best things about vaping is that you can pretty much take your vaporizer with you wherever you go. We know that there are some places you’re not allowed to vape, but there are also some great locations out there in the world where you can fire up your vaporizer and relax.

Below are just some of our favorite places and times to vape!

 When You Wake Up

One of the first things that many vapers do when they wake up is reach for their vape and load up with their favorite breakfast vape liquid. I know it’s one of the first things that I do! When you wake up, do you grab your drink of choice and have a quick vape, or do you wait a little while until you’ve been awake longer? You’ve probably heard of ‘wake and bake,’ but are you part of the wake and vape crew?

While You’re At Work

Vaping while you work is great if you work from home, work remotely, or even work outdoors. While not all of us are fortunate to work remotely or outdoors, or in a workplace where we can vape the day away, vaping during the day on your work breaks is still a pretty popular place for everyone to fire up their vapes. There’s nothing like breaking up a long and boring day at work by blowing some clouds of your favorite vape juices. Are you lucky enough to be able to vape while you’re at work, or do you have to wait for your breaks so that you don’t catch heat from the boss?

While You Enjoy A Coffee

Who doesn’t love coffee? Even if you don’t love traditional coffee and prefer iced coffee or tea, or even an energy drink, vaping while you enjoy your drink is incredible! It’s easy to fall into a habit. Vaping replaces traditional cigarettes for many people, giving them another option. However, smoking and having a cup of coffee or a drink is a big part of many people’s routines, and vaping generally falls into that category. If you love a good vape and a drink, then drop us a comment below with your favorite drink!

Hanging with Friends

Hanging with friends, throwing a frisbee, having a few drinks, or rocking out at a concert are all great social occasions, and vaping definitely goes well during gathering with friends. We’ve come a long way from being stuck in small rooms while someone blows cigarette smoke in our faces. Do you and your friends like to hang out and vape together? Compare your vapes, share your favorite vape liquids, and much more! If you love hanging out with friends and vaping, then you’re our kind of people!

While You Party

Who doesn’t love a good party? It doesn’t matter what the occasion is. If you love vaping and partying, then there’s a good chance that you’ll be doing both as often as possible! There are a bunch of reasons to have a party. Birthdays, anniversaries, special occasions, holiday events, and many more. It’s not unusual these days to find a group of vapers hanging out together at a party and talking about their favorite eliquids or vape mods. If you love to party and vape, there’s a good chance that we might meet up at a party one night!

Where Do You Love to Vape? – Conclusion

That is just some of our personal favorite times and places to fire up our vaporizer! One of the great things about vaping is that it’s very personal. When and where you enjoy vaping could be completely different from someone else, and that’s okay!

Do you have a favorite place or time to vape? Share some of the best times you have ever vaped below! We’d love to hear all about some of the places you get to fire up your vaporizer.

Becovape is an e-cigarette brand specializing in premium-quality, healthy disposable vapes with an array of delicious, mouth-watering fruit flavors that will make you feel like you’re kicking it off with a cocktail in the tropics. Which side is the e-cig science really on – tribe or mine?

0

It’s surely a truism that no one ever won an argument or changed anyone’s mind simply by making an assertion. A traditional tactic of those who could give no sound reasoning to support a potentially contentious view was to claim God was on their side.

These days outside those fundamentalist enclaves where the God card still trumps reason for God substitute Science.

There’s really no way to counter either, other than by counter-assertion: God/Science is on my side, not yours.

If this sounds unproductive, an unlikely route to agreement on anything, it remains all too common. Not least in the world of e-cigarettes and vaping regulation.

As far as ECigIntelligence can tell, God has no opinion on the subject. Science, almost equally unhelpfully, has plenty of opinions and they don’t all agree.

Which leaves the world divided between those who will swear e-cigarettes are an enormous boon to public health, and those equally adamant that they are a snare and a danger. And both will claim vehemently that the science is on their side.

The ECigIntelligence archives are ram-full of examples to demonstrate this divide, with another plum example this week in our account of events in the Swedish parliament.

Tribal origins

On one side we had the government asserting that there was “little research” to support industry claims that e-cigs helped smokers quit, but “more evidence” that fruit or candy flavours are a manufacturers’ ruse to attract young customers.

On the other side was the equally familiar argument that e-cigs do aid smoking cessation, and that flavours are vital in helping them do so.

You pays your money and you takes your choice (and there’s relevance in that old saying, too).

Yup, it’s all about flavours again. This time the non-government, pro-vape side won the vote. But with both sides claiming to have the science in their corner, the decision, as ever, really comes down not to reason or debate but to already-held views. And they, more than most people would like to admit, owe a lot to such tribal matters as your political allegiance, your religion or your country.

In the US, for example, you’ll find most Democrats are anti-vaping but pro-cannabis, while most Republicans are the opposite. However illogical both those contradictory positions are, it’s all to do with history fascinating social history that we have neither time nor space to go into here. Suffice to say tribal belonging engenders “gut feeling” that has little or nothing to do with reason or science.

And talking of tribalism and contrary positions, what chance would you say harm reduction specialist Alex Wodak has of persuading his fellow Australians to follow New Zealand’s example on e-cig regulation? Or, indeed, on anything else?

5 Reasons You’ll Love Dinner Lady’s Disposable Vape Pen

0

First introduced to the market in 2003, e-cigarettes have changed considerably in size and style.

First launched as a cig-a-like device in the design of a cigarette, the original e-cig device was limited in both design and customisation. Now available in the form of pens, pods and mods, there is an e-cigarette for every preference and vaping style. Compatible with thousands of e-liquid flavours and a range of vaping styles, e-cigarettes have come a long way in the last 18+ years.

Although providing more flexibility and choice for advanced vapers, more advanced vape kits can be too complex and complicated for those new to vaping, and for the average vaper. After all, many of us prefer to test the waters before committing our time and hard-earnt money to something we are not 100% sure on.

Combining the convenience of pen-style devices with the flavourful advantage of advanced vape kits, Dinner Lady’s disposable Vape Pen provides a great entry into the world of vape for adult smokers looking for a less harmful alternative to tobacco products. With a portable design and excellent flavour range, Dinner Lady’s e-cig is the best e-cig for new and experienced vapers alike.

HOW DO E-CIGARETTES WORK?

Though there are many different types of e-cigarette available on today’s vape market, disposable pens share the same purpose: to provide a less harmful alternative to tobacco products.

An e-cig is an electronic device designed to heat flavoured e-cig liquid into vapour. Unlike a cigarette, e-cigs are free from tobacco.

5 REASONS YOU’LL LOVE DINNER LADY’S DISPOSABLE VAPE PEN

Dinner Lady’s Vape Pen is undoubtedly one of the best e-cigarettes on the vape market today.

1. PORTABLE DESIGN

The Vape Pen is slim and compact, weighing just 16.7g when full and measuring only 10cm in length. Forget chunky devices with complicated buttons and operating systems, the Vape Pen is draw-operated for use of use.

2. FLAVOUR RANGE

Available in 13 premium Dinner Lady e-cigarette flavours across six flavour ranges, the e-cig offers some of the very best flavours on the vape market. Prefilled with 50:50 Nic Salt e-liquid, the disposable provides a mouth to lung (MTL) vape that most closely resembles the throat hit sensation you experience when smoking a traditional cigarette.

3. 400 PUFFS – NO FLAVOUR FADE

With a 350mAh, grade A Li-Ion battery, 5ml e-liquid capacity and improved 1.6ohm coil with bespoke mixed cotton wick, Dinner Lady’s e-cig promises up to 40 puffs. That’s right, with Dinner Lady’s Vape Pen, you will receive the vape equivalent of up to 20 cigarettes for just £3.99 per e-cigarette.

4. CONVENIENCE

No refilling, no recharging and absolutely no coil changing, the Vape Pen is ideal e-cig for beginners who require a simple yet effective vape device. No fuss, no leaks, just 400 puffs of your favourite premium e-cig juice.

When finished, simply dispose, and start a new pen.

5. STYLE

There’s no denying, the Vape Pen has style. Made from premium, food-grade stainless steel, Dinner Lady’s disposable e-cig has a metallic finish that looks great.

DINNER LADY VAPE PEN: THE BEST E-CIG?

If you want an e-cigarette that combines the ease of a pen with the flavour advantages of a box mod, look no further than Dinner Lady’s Vape Pen. Available in 13 premium e-cigarette flavours, promising up to 400 puffs with no flavour fade and designed to be conveniently slim and compact, Dinner Lady’s disposable e-cigarette promises no fuss, no leaks, just great flavour at a great price.

Australian Study Shows The Effectivity of Vaping For Smoking Cessation

0

A smartphone app in combination with vaping, increased the odds of quitting by 74% compared to not using an app.

Titled, “Effect of vaping on past-year smoking cessation success of Australians in 2019 – evidence from a national survey,” the study included 1,601 smokers and has found that using e-cigarettes to quit smoking increased the odds of success by 68%-124% compared to not vaping. In line with previous findings this data has shown once again that vaping is more effective in helping smokers quit.

Interestingly, the best results were observed in vapers who obtained e-liquids from foreign websites. While another curious finding revealed that using a smartphone app in combination with vaping, increased the odds of quitting by 74% compared to not using an app.

Discussing the study, renowned smoking cessation expert Dr. Colin Mendelsohn summarized some other findings. “Smokers who asked a doctor for help had a 12% lower quit rate compared to those who did not seek a doctor’s help. NRT users had a 25% reduced chance of quitting compared to those who did not use NRT. Those who used Quitline had a 50% reduction in quit rates.”

The importance of including vapes in smoking cessation strategies

While study author Dr. Mark Chambers from the University of New South Wales reiterated the importance of incorporating vaping products in smoking cessation strategies. “The present study provides evidence that Australians that used e-cigarettes for smoking cessation attempts in 2019 were more successful than those that did not. Therefore, improving access to nicotine e-cigarettes in Australia could be expected to assist some Australian smokers to quit.”

Let’s catch more bad NZ vape retailers

0

It’s great news that ratbag retailers are getting slapped with fines for selling vapes to minors. We just need to see more of it. Enforcement and parental responsibility are key to attacking youth vaping,” says Nancy Loucas, co-founder of Aotearoa Vapers Community Advocacy (AVCA).

Her comments follow news that the regulators are getting tougher, with Te Whatu Ora National Public Health Service recently running controlled purchase operations on 39 retailers in Canterbury in recent months.

Seven of the retailers failed to ask for identification and sold vape products to a 16-year-old. This is in breach of the Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products (Vaping) Amendment Act 2020. If they breach the rules three times, they could face prosecution.

All year AVCA has continually called for rogue dairy owners who sell vapes to minors to have the book thrown at them, saying the Government’s ‘education’ period has long expired.

“Dare I say, it’s mostly convenience stores that are getting infringement notices and fines. The other problem is too many of them have been allowed to partition off part of their shops to become Specialist Vape Retailers, enabling them to sell a full range of flavours. This matter needs greater oversight and re-assessment from the regulator because frankly they’re not specialists,” says Ms Loucas.

Since 2020 only licenced SVRs can stock all flavours. General retailers such as convenience stores are limited to selling just mint, menthol, and tobacco flavours.

“Restricting flavours in general retail has had a huge unintended consequence on the ground. It’s simply led to greater numbers of bad vape retailers. The best way to fix this is to allow more flavours into general retail as ASH is calling for, while getting tough on R18 enforcement,” she says.

AVCA says thanks to vaping, New Zealand is on track to achieve Smokefree 2025 – where five percent or fewer smoke. Another boost to the decade-long national goal will be The Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products (Smoked Tobacco) Amendment Bill. Parliament’s health select committee is due to report back on it by 1 December.

Reiterating the importance of providing access to safer nicotine products for Kiwi adults, Associate Health Minister Ayesha Verrall recently said: ‘We need to continue supporting people who smoke tobacco to successfully switch to less harmful products.’

“New Zealand is showing the world how to achieve smokefree. You crush the access and appeal of deadly cigarettes, while adopting a Tobacco Harm Reduction approach to ensure a safer and viable nicotine alternative is readily available for adults,” says Nancy Loucas.

The Fifth Asia Harm Reduction Forum took place on 28 October in the Philippines. The forum’s footage is now available on the AHRF 2022 YouTube channel at:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6o1hXi4aAak

Coil Guide: Mesh vs. Regular Coil

0

What is a Vape Coil?

The coil is an essential part of any e-cigarette or vaping device, yet it is often an afterthought for those who decide to buy a vape. The coil functions to heat up your e-liquid and turn it into vapor.

It’s wrapped with a thick wicking material that soaks up the e-liquid, receiving heat from the battery to turn the juice into vapor. This makes the coil of a vape the fundamental element to it working, meaning you should take care when deciding which type of coil is suitable for your vape.

Regular coils are intended to provide low resistance so that you receive an intense vapor that enhances your vaping experience. However, your vapor density can be improved and made more efficient by swapping out a regular coil for a mesh one.

Mesh coils and traditional coils are designed with different structures of metal, each with various advantages and disadvantages. Here’s the rundown you need to know about the differences between the two:

What is a Regular Coil?

A regular coil is comprised of single wire strands which are ‘coiled’ to form the spiral heating element, which produces vapor. There are also multi-core standard coils available on the market, such as dual, triple, and quad-core coils, which provide more surface area for the wicking material to burn for an efficient experience.

Why Are There Two Types of Coils?

You may wonder why there is any need for there to be two types of coils. Mesh coils and regular are prevalent in different types of vapes due to their suitability for other vaping devices.

Although mesh coils have become increasingly more common and standard in the vaping industry, they don’t appear in all types of vapes because mesh cores are almost always used in Sub Ohm coils. A Sub Ohm coil is a coil with a resistance of less than 1.0ohm, whereas a mouth-to-lung coil exceeds 1.0ohm of resistance and uses a standard wire.

This means that regular coils are often found in disposable vapes and vape pod systems. Standard coils are better suited to these systems because they can adapt to being built in a smaller volume than mesh coils.

Traditional coils can also be used in this capacity because they tend to have less longevity than mesh coils, meaning they’re suited to a pod or mouth-to-lung starter kit since they are housed in small vape pods with low wattage.

Regular vs. Mesh Coils

Similarities:

While both mesh and standard coils work toward the same goal, they have different effects in doing so. The main similarity which any regular and mesh coil share is that they both act like the heating element for your e-juice.

This means that both types of the coil will ignite when you press the firing button on your battery (or inhale on automatic vapes.) As both coils heat up, they act to evaporate your e-liquid so that you can inhale it.

Differences:

  • Increased Surface Area on Mesh Coils

The first significant difference between regular coils and mesh ones is a matter of surface area. Mesh coils feature a larger surface area which allows them to heat up the vape juice at a faster rate.

This also means that mesh coils offer more uniform heating because the same amount of current is spread across a wider surface area. With a mesh coil, there are lower chances of experiencing a dry hit or burnt hit than with a regular coil because of this increased surface area.

  • Mesh Coils Get Less Hot than Regular Coils

Because of their larger surface area, mesh coils don’t get extremely hot like their spiral counterparts. This means that they are often characterized by a cooler vaping experience and tend to last longer than regular coils. In addition, this allows mesh coils to produce a more considerable vapor volume and more flavourful taste than normal coils.

Advantages of Mesh Coil

Mesh coils boast a ton of great benefits for flavor and cloud chasers. Mesh coil technology has the upper hand over regular coils due to its characteristic large surface area, which maintains uniform heating. Here are some key advantages of a mesh coil:

Fast Heating Times:

Mesh coils work faster than regular coils, meaning they offer a more robust and more effective hit than their counterparts, delivering a better flavor and vapor.

Better Vapor Production:

Due to their more significant surface area, mesh coils provide a better flavor delivery. This means that a vape with a mesh coil will provide massive vapor and better flavors from your e-juice, improving the vaping experience.

Consistency:

Most vapers agree that not all hits are born equal. If you experience inconsistent vape hits, chances are your coil design does not uniformly get into contact with your cotton wick. With mesh coils, the whole surface area of the wick is covered, so the coil is heated evenly. This means that all hits will be the same from a mesh coil.

Longevity:

Since mesh coils heat the surface area evenly, there is a significantly decreased likelihood of having a burnt coil. This means that you have to replace mesh coils much less often than regular coils, saving you plenty of time and money.

Power Requirement:

Mesh coils require less power to achieve optimum performance, meaning you can save your battery power and increase your battery service life.

Disadvantages of Mesh Coil:

Although mesh coils are categorically more effective than their standard counterpart, they do have some disadvantages:

E-Juice Consumption:

Mesh coils will consume more e-liquid due to their increased surface area. Unfortunately, this means that huge clouds and strong flavor generation come at the cost of drinking more liquid, meaning your tank will require more frequent top-ups.

Health Concerns:

Although it is currently believed that there is little medical harm to vaping in comparison to smoking, there are still no long-term facts in contrast to spans of tobacco research.

If it comes to light that there are risks associated with VG or PG inhalation, then massive long-distance inhalation from mesh coils will exacerbate the possible health effects. This means you should be cautious when using a vape mesh coil. If you find yourself getting a cough after using a mesh coil or developing strange symptoms, be sure to consult your doctor.

Conclusion:

It’s clear that with mesh coil’s superior surface area and uniform heating, they have plenty of benefits compared to regular coils, such as larger clouds, better flavor production, and a cooler vaping experience. However, traditional coils still have their place, especially for those who want to save more money on vape juice.

You may even opt for a regular coil if you are an ex-smoker trying to replicate the feeling of smoking since standard coils produce a warmer vapor.

You should also remember that several of the advantages of mesh coils are subjective. For instance, you may find the intensity of flavor or cloud production from a mesh coil to be unpleasant. Therefore, to find the perfect coil to suit your needs, the best thing we can recommend is that you try out both coils to see which one suits you the best!

UK is vape-friendly – But can Khan influence the rest of the world?

0

The review of England’s tobacco policy commissioned by the British government and compiled by Javed Khan has attracted much attention for its enthusiastic endorsement of e-cigarettes as a path to smoking cessation. It certainly seems to strengthen the likelihood that the UK will retain its place as one of the most officially pro-vaping countries in the world (and maybe we didn’t even need a 101-page document to confirm that; there are few signs of back-pedalling). But could it also have lessons for the rest of the world, even for countries where there is far more hostility toward novel tobacco products?

Two academics, one British and one American, believe it should be required reading in the halls of US tobacco-control power. They – Caitlin Notley of the University of East Anglia and Clifford Douglas of the University of Michigan’s Tobacco Research Network – argue in a new article that “the UK and New Zealand are now leading the way in the battle to end the epidemic of smoking-related illness and death. The US can learn from them.”

In particular, they contrast Khan’s recommendations and New Zealand’s Smokefree Aotearoa 2025 plan, which also positively encourages vapour, with an America that is “mired in a polarized debate” and where efforts to curb youth e-cigarette use have “led to significant public misunderstanding regarding the substantially lower health risks of e-cigarettes compared to combustible tobacco products. This, in turn, has impeded the promotion of tobacco harm reduction to the more than 30 million adults who still smoke.”

Bright spots in the US landscape

So far, so familiar. But the authors do not entirely write off the prospects of enlightened regulation in the US, and there are brighter spots on its tobacco-control landscape too, they say: for example, the proposed reduction of nicotine in combustibles to minimal levels, and the prohibition of menthol in combustibles, as well as the few marketing orders that have been granted by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for e-cigarettes.

While most in the industry and in the vaping community consider the number of e-cigarettes the FDA has been willing to approve to be ridiculously small, at least allowing some to remain on the market while simultaneously reducing the appeal of combustibles through those other measures suggests – according to Douglas and Notley – that the agency has not completely forgotten about the continuum of risk. (Even if many lawmakers and pundits seem to have done so.)

This is perhaps Notley and Douglas’s most interesting point, and it is not the harm-reduction world’s (or the industry’s) usual way of seeing the FDA’s premarket tobacco product application (PMTA) process. Many regard the wholesale rejection of so many applications as amounting, in practical effect, to a near-ban on the category. And yet as these researchers imply, the fact that even a small number have been approved indicates that the FDA does accept that alternatives to combustibles can, in some circumstances, be appropriate to the protection of public health.

In other words, while the glass is definitely more than half-empty and nowhere approaching half-full, it’s still not totally empty.

Ways ahead

Let’s not be Pollyanna-ish about it. It’s vanishingly unlikely that the US will turn into a vape-friendly UK or New Zealand overnight. For example, even if we can suspect – from the fact that the mandatory low-nicotine regime so far looks likely to apply only to combustibles, and not to alternatives – that the FDA is not committed to total war on nicotine, it still looks (judging by the PMTA outcomes) committed to a total war on flavours.

And there are still plenty in Congress and other places of influence who are so blinded by the words “nicotine” and “children” that they are quite unable to discern a continuum of risk, an off-ramp, or anything else positive in alternatives.

Still, if nothing else, Douglas and Notley’s article reminds us that there are ways ahead. The US is not going to embrace the Khan model, of course, and the vapour market in that country is not going to return to the free-for-all of a few years ago – but an opening could nevertheless exist to remind regulators that the continuum of risk exists, and that alternatives occupy a better place on it than combustibles.

A Beginner’s Guide to Squonking – Dinner Lady

0

Squonking is a vape method that involves the use of a peculiar vaping device: a squonk mod. Squonk mods use the same mechanics as Rebuildable Dripping Atomisers (RDAs) without the faff of manual dripping.

SQUONKING: A BRIEF HISTORY

Not so long ago, when vape was a new phenomenon, the vaping world was full of modified vape kits and DIY e-liquids. It was difficult to find or make a vape kit as advanced as they are today, so vapers took matters into their own hands. Searching high and low to achieve the very best flavours, dedicated vapers found that dripping e-liquids onto cotton delivered incredible flavour.

And so Rebuildable Drip Atomisers (RDAs) were born. Without a tank, an RDA involves manually feeding the wick by dripping e-liquid directly onto it. RDA vaping is well-loved for providing the perfect hit of flavour and vapour every time.

However, manually dripping e-liquids onto cotton was time-consuming and unpractical. Thus, bottom-feeding atomizers were born. With a hole in the bottom, e-liquids are fed from the bottom and up through a tube to eliminate the mess and faff of dripping e-liquids from a tank at the top.

Cue squonking.

Squonk mods allow vapers to bottom-feed their vape juices up from the bottom of the connector to eliminate the manual element of dripping e-liquids down onto coils through a mouthpiece. With squonk mods, e-liquids are squeezed upwards from a reservoir to eliminate mess and fuss, saving vapers heaps of time and hassle.

There was one huge drawback, though. Many of these DIY kits were unregulated and could be dangerous when used incorrectly. There were numerous cases of squonk mods exploding or setting on fire due to vapers putting too much strain on a battery or not setting up the mod properly.

Though the market has advanced and regulated mech mods are available to buy, there is further disappointing news for UK and EU vapers – squonk mods are not available for sale within any country in the European Union due to TPD regulations.

As per the Tobacco Products Directive (TPD), all vape devices cannot have tanks that hold more than 2ml of e-liquid. As squonk kits have a bigger e-liquid reservoir, the sale of squonk mods is not allowed in the UK vape market.

VAPING WITH SQUONK MODS IN THE UK

While TPD regulations prevent stores from stocking mech mods in the UK and EU, this does not make it illegal to use them.

Many vapers continue to build their own mechanical mods. However, vapers should use only use regulated mods with extreme caution. Inexperienced vapers especially should avoid building their own vape kits due to the serious risks and dangers involved.

WHAT MAKES SQUONKING SO GOOD?

Squonking incorporates a battery, bottle and dripper. Unlike an RDA, squonk mods contain an e-liquid reservoir, meaning vapers get the convenience of a traditional e-cig with the excellent flavour of an RDA.

Dripping is a manual and messy process that takes time. It also involves the risk of over dripping which can flood your vape kit. Squonking eliminates the need for manual dripping, providing a quick and convenient vape that maintains the excellent flavour of an RDA mod. With a bottom-feeding dripper that pulls liquid through, squonk mods also eliminate the risk of flooding your device.

ARE SQUONK MODS THE SAME AS RDAs?

At its core, a squonk mod uses the same mechanics as an RDA, with one major difference.

Instead of relying on the dripping method, squonk mods incorporate on an internal e-juice reservoir that can store significant quantities of e-juice. With a squeeze of the bottle, the e-liquid is fed upwards through the mod and directly into the RDA. The result is essentially a hybrid design between a standard mod and an RDA that is much more convenient.

SO, ARE THERE ANY DOWNSIDES?

There’s a downside to everything. Even vaping.

While squonk mods are undoubtedly more convenient than RDAs, their large e-liquid reservoir makes it difficult to change flavours often. The large reservoir means less refilling and overall less hassle, though it does mean using the same flavoured e-liquid for a longer period of time.

This is no issue, however, to vapers who have found their favourite e-liquid flavour – we’re looking at you, Lemon Tart fans. Or for those who don’t mind sticking to the same e-liquid flavour for a longer period of time.

WHAT IS THE BEST SQUONK MOD?

To put it simply, the best squonk mod is a regulated squonk mod. Made with regulated controls and components, regulated squonk mods have exceptional safety features that protect vapers against malfunctions.

HOW TO BUILD A SQUONK MOD

Due to the complexity of building your own vape kit and the dangers involved with handling powerful batteries, it is best to choose a regulated squonk mod. Opting for a regulated squonk mod ensures both your own and others safety.

Vape Coco NICPOD Nova Review

0

Specifications:

  • Coil: 1.8 Ohm
  • Weight: 30.4g
  • Battery: 500mAh
  • Output: 6W
  • Charging port: Type-C USB
  • Charging: 5V/0.5A
  • Charge time: 30-40 mins

Today I’m taking a look at the NICPOD Nova device and prefilled pods from Vape Coco.

The is a simple, pen-style device, featuring a 500mAh rechargeable battery and a USB-C charging system.

There are no buttons to press as it is draw-activated only and runs at around a 6W output with no adjustability.

There is an empty section on the top of the device that allows you to insert prefilled pods made by Vape Coco specifically for this device.

These pods each contain 2ml of e-liquid, which is equivalent to 600 puffs and come in packs of three.

The pods also feature their own airflow system and are made to a strict environmental policy meaning they are entirely carbon neutral.

The device itself works extremely well, the pods are easy to connect and disconnect so changing flavours is a doddle!

The battery seems to last a decent amount of time and it also charges up extremely quickly when depleted thanks to the USB C charging.

Overall, I see the NiCPOD Nova as a great alternative to using disposable vapes. They are a lot more eco-friendly and the ability to charge it means you shouldn’t ever be stuck without a vape.

The most important thing really though, is the flavours so let’s see how they taste:

Strawberry Watermelon

A classic combination, the sweet strawberry is a great partner for the refreshing, slightly sour watermelon.

Both fruits taste fresh and very accurate to the real thing. I can’t see anyone having any problems getting through 1,800 puffs of this flavour in no time at all. A great start.

Pink Lemonade

One of my personal favourite flavours, I always love the mix of the sweet strawberry and raspberry with the tart, citrusy lemon and the slight fizz in the background.

Vape Coco have done a fantastic job with this flavour, and it’s everything you’d expect it to be. A fantastic example of a fantastic flavour.

Mango Passion Fruit

If you are into your tropical fruit flavours this will be the one for you.

This is an exotic mixture of mango and passion fruit which is really punchy and vibrant.

The flavours taste extremely fresh and realistic so I honestly can’t see how anyone wouldn’t enjoy this flavour. I got through all three pods in record time.

Blueberry Sour Raspberry

Probably one of the most popular flavours on the market currently, Blueberry Sour Raspberry, as the name would suggest is a combination of blueberry and raspberry with a hit of sourness.

It’s a fantastic flavour, with the sweet blueberry contrasting with the tart raspberries and an almost sour candy hit in the background tying it all together.

On the off chance you’ve never tried this flavour before this is a perfect example of how to do it correctly.

Watermelon Chill

Last up we have Watermelon Chill. Watermelon is one of the most popular vape flavours on the market and it’s easy to see why.

It’s a subtle but instantly recognisable flavour, that’s neither too sweet or too tart, it’s incredibly balanced.

Vape Coco have created the perfect classic watermelon flavour here and the addition of some subtle ice adds that extra layer of freshness to lift the overall vape to new heights.

Pros:

  • Very easy to use
  • Great flavours
  • Great alternative to disposables

Cons:

  • None

How E-Cigarettes and Vaping Dam

0

Our Blog

by Alan Johnson

on

Aug 08, 2022

One of the big marketing points for e-cigarettes and vaporizers is that they’re primarily considered to be a safer alternative than traditional tobacco cigarettes for people. However, what isn’t talked about very often is the environmental risk that disposable vaporizers pose or how much of an impact e-cigarettes have on the environment compared to traditional cigarettes.

In the following article, we’ll take a closer look at how smoking regular cigarettes stacks up against e-cigarettes and what risk they pose to the environment.

Disposable vaporizers pose a massive risk to the environment because they are 100% designed as a one-time-use product. You use them until they either run out of e-liquid or battery power, and then you dispose of them. As a result, we’ve seen a huge increase in the popularity of disposable vaporizers, particularly among teenagers, which is fueling the increase in sales.

Vaping VS. Smoking: Which is Less harmful to the Environment?

In this section, we’re going to look at the impact tobacco products have on the environment, the impact e-cigarettes have on the environment, and how much damage both cause.

How Tobacco Products Damage the Environment

Approximately 4.5 trillion cigarette butts make their way into landfill, the environment, and the ocean every day worldwide. They are easily one of the most abundant forms of plastic pollution worldwide.

Cigarette butts, or filters, are a man-made plastic, and when they end up in landfill or the ocean, they can up to ten years to break down. As they break down, cigarette butts release harmful chemicals and ultimately end up turning into microplastic pollution, which poses a huge threat to the environment, human health, and wildlife for decades.

Tobacco use in the United States of America is still so prevalent that it remains as the country’s biggest cause of preventable death. Americans are responsible for smoking almost 267 billion cigarettes every year. When you combine this with the common habit of throwing cigarette butts on the ground, that’s a lot of cigarette butts ending up littering the environment.

How E-cigarettes Damage the Environment

E-cigarettes are commonly marketed as a ‘safer alternative’ than traditional tobacco cigarettes. However, there is limited data to back up these claims, and we won’t know about long-term health effects for many years to come.

Disposable vaporizers were one of the first products to enter the vaping market. Cheap cigarillos were and are still available in gas stations and convenience stores. They looked exactly like traditional cigarettes, even down to a glowing red tip! However, within a few years, box mods quickly became more popular among serious vapers.

That’s all changed over the last couple of years, with many vapers making the switch to disposable pod vaporizers because of their price, size, and convenience. However, that has led us to where we are now, with millions of vaporizers being thrown away each year.

When you look at e-cigarrete waste, you need to consider that e-cigarettes are made using more materials than tobacco cigarettes. These include:

  1. Plastic Waste– Plastic waste from the plastic components used in the construction of disposable vaporizers, including the case and other components of the e-cigarettes.
  2. Electronic Waste– Electronic waste includes circuit boards, screens, and batteries. There may only be a small amount of lithium contained within a disposable e-cigarette, but it’s a precious and rare commodity.
  3. Chemical Waste– There are a variety of different chemicals used in the construction of components and e-liquids, all of which remain in the e-cigarette once disposed of.

Many materials mentioned above are 100% recyclable if the devices are taken to the correct recycling facility. However, if they’re thrown into the regular trash, all those valuable materials are entirely wasted.

Despite the fact that they contain lithium, one of the most in-demand metals in the world, millions of vaporizers are still ending up in a landfill. Currently, there is a global demand for lithium, and demand for lithium is expected to rise by five-fold in the next decade. Lithium is a common metal used in batteries.

In the United Kingdom alone, two vaporizers end up in regular landfill every two seconds. Just that amount of lithium alone is enough to make the batteries for over 1,500 electronic cars. Over 168 million of these disposable e-cigarettes are being purchased every year. The vast majority of these products are single-use or disposable. Interestingly, most of these devices contain a battery that’s rechargeable but does not have a charging port.

Pollution from e-cigarettes is mainly preventable if we as vapers take a few seconds out of our day to do the right thing. One way you can help reduce the impact disposable vaporizers have on the environment is by being an eco-friendly vaper.

Be An Eco-friendly Vaper

As an eco-friendly vaper, there are various ways you can help to minimize the environmental risk that disposable e-cigarettes and traditional tobacco products pose, including:

  1. Stay away from traditional cigarettes and tobacco products and stick with vaping.
  2. Whenever possible, make the switch from disposable vaporizers to rechargeable vaporizers which will cut down on wastage from devices being thrown away.
  3. If you do have to dispose of any e-cigarettes, vaporizers, disposable vaporizers, batteries, or accessories, check with your local waste organization to see if they have dedicated battery disposal and battery recycling areas or drop-off points. This means that the e-cigarettes will be disposed of safely, and all materials used in the construction of the e-cigarettes will be recycled correctly.

E-cigarette Waste and the Environment – Conclusion

Now you have a much clearer idea about the risk that disposable vapes pose to the environment and how those risks stack up against traditional tobacco products. As eco-friendly vapers and consumers, we can all do our part to help reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfill because of disposable e-cigarettes and accessories.

An innovative scheme to put ‘disposable’ e-cig batteries to new use

0

It may not be the foremost argument against smoking, but ask anyone who goes assiduously litter-picking and they’ll tell you that cigarette butts are a blight on the environment almost everywhere. With around 4.5tn cigarette ends casually discarded every year, the National Geographic describes them as “the most littered item on Earth” and a major source of microplastic pollution. Waste and pollution on that scale is a global problem the world is somewhat belatedly waking up to.

So is this, along with the much-debated issue of personal health, another point in favour of vaping? Not according to experts at the recent World Health Organization (WHO) conference, who spoke of “heavy plastic with metal parts, which is difficult to recycle”.

And that’s assuming most users even make any attempt to recycle items that are labelled “disposable” – which are booming in popularity and are also potentially the biggest environmental villains in the e-cigarette catalogue.

Exaggerated scare stories about “exploding” e-cigs may fire the imagination of tabloid news editors but they don’t deliver the real bad news about lithium batteries. That’s much more to do with the waste of an increasingly eagerly sought mineral, and the high social and environmental cost of lithium mining in places such as Chile’s Atacama desert.

One of the major points in favour of lithium batteries is rechargeability – which ought to be a good thing from the green perspective – but that benefit is literally thrown away in the case of disposable e-cigs.

Free, easy and environmentally friendly

Now comes an initiative from a 26-year-old engineer and PhD student who has organised a team of volunteers to set up and maintain recycling bins in the dorms and on the campus where he studies and teaches, specifically to collect disposable e-cigs and retrieve their batteries. These are then not recycled in the sense of being broken down for their components but, better still, converted to make them rechargeable and reused intact.

As Maksym Sheremet told The Independent: “We started collecting e-cigarettes after the price of lithium batteries really rose a month ago. It’s free, easy to repurpose and environmentally friendly.

“It’s very easy to solder this stuff, it is not a difficult job. You cannot put electric cigarettes in the trash because of the lithium battery; it is a serious fire risk and terrible for the environment.”

The twist in this initially heartwarming tale is the purpose Sheremet is putting his reclaimed batteries to. It’s a purpose you might well applaud – depending which side of a major conflict you stand on – but it’s a strange one to be making health or environment claims for. War is never notably beneficial to either.

After being collected from students in Kyiv, those former e-cig batteries are now powering drones delivering weaponry, bombs and ammunition (and medical supplies) to the soldiers on Ukraine’s front line in the fight against Russia.

5 Reasons to Make Your Own E-Liquid – Dinner Lady

0

If you’ve been vaping for a while, you’ve likely tried just about every e-liquid flavour that is available on the vape market. So where do you go from here?

DIY vape juice is the natural next step for dozens of vapers. With flavour concentrates, vapers can concoct their own DIY e-liquid flavours with their preferred balance of propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG).

1. Experience great flavours

Flavour concentrates consist of food-grade flavourings and PG to make the very best e-liquids. Concentrates can also be mixed to create unique flavours that are not available on the vape market.

2. Control the vapour

PG is a great flavour carrier that can be mixed with both nicotine and VG to create your ideal vape. Experienced cloud chasers love to mix their concentrates with high volumes of VG for plenty of flavour and vapour.

3. Control the nicotine

Concentrates can be mixed with nicotine or CBD Boost shots to create your preferred vape. This is a great option for those finding themselves in the position to no longer depend on the nicotine fix to keep you going.

4. Save money

Consisting entirely of PG and food-grade flavourings, flavour concentrates are available in large, 30ml bottles to mix with VG or nicotine. This means that you get much more product for your money and the e-liquids last much longer than TPD-compliant 10ml bottles.

5. Avoid vaper’s tongue

If you’ve been vaping for a long time, you may have experienced vaper’s tongue. An unpleasant situation where e-liquid juice desensitises the tongue to flavours, vaper’s tongue spoils the experience of vaping great flavours.

Flavour concentrates allow you to mix flavourings to create brand new flavours, thus avoiding a disappointing case of vaper’s tongue that ruins your favourite e-liquid as well as other foods and drinks.

RJ Reynolds Sues Over California Flavored Tobacco Ban

0

RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company has filed a federal lawsuit against the state of California in a last-ditch effort to stop a flavored tobacco products ban from entering into force. The lawsuit also comes after voters in California chose to retain the Stop Tobacco Access to Kids Enforcement (STAKE) Act, Senate Bill (SB) 793.

SB 793 was signed into law by Gov. Gavin Newsom in 2020 as a measure to curtail youth uptake of tobacco products, including vapes, across the state. Proposition 31, the initiated ballot measure put to the voters by the tobacco companies, was adopted to keep Senate Bill 793 on California’s state law books.

Politics and the lawsuit against the ban

Vaping Post reported the day after Election Day in the United States that the public health groups that ran the Yes on Prop 31 campaign drastically outspent the No on Prop 31 campaign that was backed by the largest tobacco companies in the country.

At this time of this column’s writing, 62.5 percent of voters adopted Proposition 31, effectively banning all flavored tobacco products.

RJ Reynolds and Philip Morris USA jointly funded the ‘no’ campaign with only a few million dollars spent on political efforts. On the other hand, as it shows in the election results, groups tied to billionaire philanthropist Michael R. Bloomberg and a high-profile slate of public health and education political committees, like the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, spent well over $50 million to retain the controversial landmark ban.

The Associated Press called the race on election day, Nov. 8, for the Yes on Prop 31 campaign. At this time of this column’s writing, 62.5 percent of voters adopted Proposition 31, effectively banning all flavored tobacco products, including menthol-flavored cigarettes. 37.5 percent voted for the ban on tobacco flavors to be overturned. The flavor ban, per Senate Bill 793, leaves exceptions for hookah, premium cigars, and loose-leaf tobacco.

California has no legitimate interest in enforcing its preempted and unconstitutional law.

While not a total ban because of the exempted products, Senate Bill 793 — reaffirmed by Proposition 31’s passage — eliminates the sale of flavored tobacco products, including vaping flavors that fall under the regulatory purview of the federal Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Center for Tobacco Products (CTP).

“California has no legitimate interest in enforcing its preempted and unconstitutional law,” reads the official lawsuit, filed in the federal U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California.

RJ Reynolds Tobacco filed the lawsuit on the behalf of other actors in the market.

“The Court should thus grant injunctive and declaratory relief preventing the Defendants and their agents from violating the U.S. Constitution’s Supremacy Clause and Commerce Clause,” further questioning the flavored tobacco ban’s constitutionality, being that the law is enacted by a state and could impede on interstate commerce among other states in the union. Any such law is a violation of the Congressional authority to regulate interstate commerce, per the legal arguments in the lawsuit.

RJ Reynolds Tobacco filed the lawsuit on the behalf of other actors in the market, including a local San Diego vape manufacturer, Vapin’ the 619, and a tobacco and liquor retailer advocacy nonprofit organization called the Neighborhood Market Association (NMA). NMA is also from in San Diego, Calif., like Vapin’ the 619.

“Flavors attract youth, and the tobacco industry has long recognized that if they don’t get them young, they will go on to lead healthy, tobacco-free lives,” said Erika Sward, vice president for advocacy for the American Lung Association, via The New York Times and the outlet’s reporting on the filing of the RJ Reynolds lawsuit in federal court. “Menthol unfortunately is a gateway cigarette, and kids who experiment with menthol cigarettes are much more likely to go on to become regular smokers.”

Rob Bonta, the current attorney general for California, added to the Times’ coverage that he is ready to fight the lawsuit.

“Time and time again, Big Tobacco has attempted to steam roll state efforts to protect our youngest residents from the damaging effects of tobacco use,” Bonta said in a statement. “While we have not yet been formally served with the lawsuit, we look forward to vigorously defending this important law in court.”

Local impacts of Senate Bill 793

As we already described in this new column, SB 793 prohibits retailers from selling “a flavored tobacco product or a tobacco product flavor enhancer.” Newsom signed the law to prohibit flavored tobacco products in an attempt to curtail the uptick in vaping among youth across the state, despite federal data suggesting a decline in vaping among youth. Nevertheless, the law was passed at the expense of adult vape and tobacco users.

The city council’s official ban was known as the Stop Adolescent Addiction from E-Cigarettes Act or the SAAFE Act.

In response to all of this, several cities across the state adopted ordinances that banned retailers from selling flavored vaping products at the point of sale at mixed retailers. Given the local geographic relevance, some of these municipalities include San Diego, Encinitas, and Solana Beach, among a plethora of other cities in all of San Diego County. Earlier this year, the San Diego City Council, for example, officially adopted a ban on the sale of flavored tobacco products, including menthols, in the city limits that is effective on January 1, 2023. Marni von Wilpert, the Democratic councilwoman who sponsored the ordinance, was able to push the proposal through the city council as a means to beat the results of the Proposition 31 referendum if a potential loss was in store that would have overturned Senate Bill 793’s ban.

The city council’s official ban was known as the Stop Adolescent Addiction from E-Cigarettes Act or the SAAFE Act. At the time of the ordinance’s passage, Councilwoman von Wilpert expressed thanks to her colleagues: “I thank my colleagues for standing with me to stop Big Tobacco from addicting an entire new generation of youth on tobacco products by officially approving the SAAFE Act. Flavored tobacco products are intentionally marketed to kids and I am proud that our city is taking action to prevent the sale of these products and protect our youth.”

Things to consider

Councilwoman Marni von Wilpert, among the anti-tobacco politicians and personalities mentioned here, relies on the debunked talking point that tobacco products, including flavored vaping products, are made and marketed directly to minors.

I mention this for this coverage because the belief that a cigarette is made for a kid or a vape is made for a teenager is a product of moral panic and anti-tobacco hysteria some public health entities rely on. There is no sound science behind that belief.

Unfortunately, the belief is so strong that it permeates into lawmaking and the actions of politicians to further limit the rights and freedoms of adult consumers who are of the legal age to use vaping and tobacco products. Senate Bill 793 and Proposition 31 are products of this hysteria and will further threaten tobacco harm reduction, including the development of novel products.

Our Blog

Nov 15, 2022

People consider vaping an effective way to quit smoking, but it can be quite a challenge to find the right device, especially if you’re a new vaper.

There are so many different types of devices on the market, and it can be hard to know which one is right for you. Vaping devices come in all shapes and sizes and they are all different when it comes to how they work. There are some that work in different voltage, concentration of E-liquid, coil resistance, etc.

In this blog post, we’re going to take a look at the different types of vape devices so that you can find the perfect one for your needs.

Evolution of Vaping

Vaping devices have come a long way since they were first introduced. The first generation of vaping devices looked identical to cigarettes. Then the cap pens came out, which were designed to look like pens. The next generation of vaping devices was the box mod, which resembled a box. Mods were introduced in the early 2010s. The pod mods date back to the mid-2010s.

Disposable Vape

What is a Disposable Vape?

Disposable vapes are the simplest type of vaping device that have been popular since 2020. They’re small, lightweight, and easy to use. Disposable vapes come pre-filled with e-liquid, so all you have to do is open the package and start puffing. Most disposable vapes contain nicotine, but there are also some that don’t contain nicotine. Disposable vapes are designed to be used once and then thrown away.

What are the benefits of disposable vapes?

The benefits of disposable vapes are that they’re easy to use and they’re very affordable. Disposable vapes are a great way to try out vaping without having to invest in a more expensive device.

Additionally, disposable vapes are very discreet. They can be easily concealed in your hand or pocket, and they don’t produce a lot of vapor.

What are the drawbacks of disposable vapes?

The main drawback of disposable vapes is that they don’t last very long. Most disposable vapes only contain enough e-liquid for 200-400 puffs. Once the e-liquid is gone, you have to throw away the device.

Another drawback of disposable vapes is that they’re not very customizable. You can’t change the flavor or nicotine strength of the e-liquid.

All in all, disposable vapes are a great way to try out vaping. They’re also a good choice for people who are looking for a discreet, easy-to-use device.

Pod System

What is a Pod System?

Pod systems are ultra-compact vape kits and usually work in a low wattage output with higher nicotine strength, especially nicotine salt. A pod kit is designed to give you a satisfying vape with minimal maintenance.

Pod systems are similar to cigarettes in that they’re small and lightweight. They’re also similar to cigarettes in that they use nicotine salt e-liquid, which is a type of e-liquid that is absorbed more quickly by the body.

What are the different types of Pod Systems?

There are two main types of pod systems: open pod systems and closed pod systems. Open pod systems are refillable, which means that you can fill them with any type of e-liquid. Closed pod systems are not refillable, which means that you can only use the cartridges that are made for the specific device.

Vape Mod

What is a Vape Mod?

Vape mods are now a popular way to customize your vape experience. They’re designed with the goal of using different tanks, which you can buy separately and put into it yourself to create a unique vaping experience. Mods can include different features like variable wattage, temperature control, and rebuildable atomizers. All of these features give you more control over your vaping experience.

What are the different types of Vape Mods?

There are four main types of vape mods. These are:

  1. Regulated and Unregulated Mods – Unregulated mods fire based on the voltage of your coils. The lower, or higher amount that is used in watts will determine how much vapor it produces and what kind you have- if any at all! The regulated mode can be manually adjusted for anyone who wants more control over their output power levels.

  1. Box Mods – Box mods are the most popular type of mod. They get their name from their box-like shape. Box mods come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but they all have one thing in common: they have a box-like shape. They can hold one or more rechargeable batteries. Additionally, box mods come with a chip that allows you to adjust the settings on your device and make it work the way you want it to.

  1. Tube Mods – Tube mods come with the latest vaping technology that allows you to get more power out of your device. Better performance and longer battery life are the two main benefits of using a tube mod. They have a tube-like shape, which makes them more comfortable to hold in your hand.
  1. Mechanical Mods – Mechanical mods offer a high degree of customization for those looking to make their own design decisions about how much power will be sent through an atomizer. They lack some safety features that modern-day batteries have, but they do deliver battery voltage without any adjustments or wattage control options – making them ideal if you want full reign over what’s going into your vape!

Pod Mod

What is Pod Mod?

The pod mod is a new and improved version of the cig-a-like. It’s the closest device on today’s market to smoking cigarettes, just like how vaping has become a substitute for traditional tobacco products for many people who are trying to stop or cut back their use. Pod mods use pre-filled cartridges or pods of e-liquid. They come in both open and closed systems.

What Are The Differences among Pod systems, Vape Mods & Pod Mods?

Pod systems use pre-filled cartridges, or pods, of e-liquid while vape mods have a tank that you need to fill with e-liquid. Pod mods are similar to cigalikes and box mods, but they’re usually smaller and lighter. All three types of devices use nicotine salt e-liquid, which is a type of e-liquid that is absorbed more quickly by the body.

beco stick

What is a Vape Pen?

Vape pens are one of the most popular types of vaping devices. They’re cylindrical and come in various styles. Vape pens come with increased battery power and cloud production. They have a tank that you need to fill with e-liquid, and they use nicotine salt e-liquid.

What is a Cig-A-Like?

A cig-a-like is a type of vaping device that looks like a cigarette. Generally, cig-a-likes are slim and lightweight so they are easy to carry around. Most cig-a-likes use cartridges that are pre-filled with e-liquid, and they use nicotine salt e-liquid.

What Type of Device Works Best for You?

This is a difficult question to answer as it really depends on the person. Some people prefer cigalikes because they are easy to use and look like cigarettes. Other people prefer vape pens or mods because they have more control over vapor production. Ultimately, it is up to the individual to decide what type of device works best for them.

Mere possession of an e-cig ‘won’t mean jail’

0

Trust a politician to come up with a memorable soundbite, a catchy slogan or a simple statement that leaps out at you from the headlines. Top prize this week to Malaysia’s health minister Khairy Jamaluddin, the man tasked with (or at least fronting) the drafting of a proposed Tobacco and Smoking Control Bill.

That’s him pictured, launching the “Generational End Game roadshow” last Friday.

His bill, previously scheduled to be tabled in Parliament by the end of March and now expected to be ready for debate later this month, has already grabbed international attention with its innovative idea of banning the sale of all nicotine-containing products to anyone born in or after 2005.

An idea of which Samsul Kamal Arrifin Mohd Basir, founder and president of the Malaysian Organization of Vape Entity told ECigIntelligence in February: “Obviously, if passed, this bill will lead towards a zero-smoking nation. And we as a consumer association, we are not here to encourage people to vape. We are here to help people quit smoking.” Brave words that might not have sounded so good in the ears of all his members, or the wider vaping industry.

A policy for the ages?

The Year Zero approach effectively (or perhaps not so effectively) aims at creating a “smoke-free generation” (with or without e-cigs). Itself an idea that has caught on in a few other places and might well gain considerable traction worldwide (c.f. Denmark).

An idea, too, that various British politicians and vaping (or smoking?) enthusiasts have spoofed with an image of some future 50-year-old hanging around outside furtively while his 51-year-old mate pops into a shop to buy him an e-cigarette.

But back to Khairy and that headline-grabbing announcement. Talking about his bill – which will not ban, but for the first time in Malaysia “tightly regulate” e-cig sales – he told reporters: “For minor offences, meaning for individual possession, there are no jail terms. It (incarceration) is more for heavy offences – and this includes illegal sale.”

Or, in headline-speak: “Teens Won’t Be Jailed For Individual Possession Of Cigarettes, Vape”.

So that’s a brow-mapping “phew” to that, then. But not so much comfort to those retailers threatened with jail if they can’t tell what year a customer was born.

  • A US district judge from Washington DC has supported the Cigar Association of America and ruled that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)’s decision to deem the category of “premium cigars” as tobacco products was “arbitrary and capricious”.

So, just to be clear: the posh cigars that people like judges smoke after dinner, though presumably made entirely of tobacco, are not “tobacco products”; while e-cigarettes, which contain no tobacco at all, are. What was that about “arbitrary and capricious”?

10 Ways to Fix a Leaking E-Cigarette – Dinner Lady

0

Red wine on the carpet. Drops of coffee on the settee. Grass on white clothing. Permanent marker on the walls. We’ve all been there. Spills and stains happen often, yet we still hesitate when it comes to knowing just how to remove it. White wine to counteract the red? Bleach on fragile materials? Scrubbing that expensive roll of wallpaper? We get it, removing stains can be frustrating at best and hard work at worst.

When we experience a leaking vape tank, it’s less than ideal. Though most e-cig tanks are leakproof, accidents can still happen. E-liquids are sticky, sweet smelling, and can stain clothing, furniture and other materials. So, if your e-cig is leaking liquid, it’s important to act fast to stop the leak in its tracks and clean up any residue.

THE CLEAN UP: REMOVING STICKY STAINS

First things first, you want to get rid of the e-liquid residue before it stains for good.

If your e-cig has left a sticky situation behind on your clothing or furniture, don’t fret straight away. E-liquids are made from Propylene Glycol (PG) and Vegetable Glycerin (VG), substances that are usually pretty easy to remove and to clean. Depending on the size and location of the spilled e-liquid, they can usually be cleaned with soap and water.

• Pat the spill with a damp cloth to remove as much excess as possible. Take care not to rub the area if it’s on fabric or other absorbent materials!
• Clean the rest of the area with a damp cloth and soapy water. Be as quick as you can to remove all residue before the area dries.

Now that you’re all cleaned up, let’s get to avoiding any future leaks from your trusty vape kit.

1. CHECK FOR DAMAGE

If your vape kit is leaking, the most obvious solution is to check your e-cig tank for any damage. Look for cracks, holes, or any gaps to identify where your leaking e-liquid is coming from. Good e-cig tanks are built to be hardwearing and durable, but even the very best vape tank won’t last forever.

If you discover any damage, it is best to replace your vape tank for a new one. While you could attempt a DIY fix for the time being, this is not an effective long-term solution. To stop your vape tank leaking, replace it as soon as possible.

2. TIGHTEN YOUR TANK

A loose vape tank can cause your e-liquids to leak through the gaps. Make sure the fixture is closed securely and no e-liquid is leaking by tightening the top and the base of the tank. This will stop e-liquid from leaking through the joins in your tank.

Also make sure that your coil is inserted properly. Your coil creates a seal within a vape tank that stops e-liquids leaking. Unless your coils are sitting where they are supposed to, your e-liquids are likely to escape. Push your coils inside your vape kit until you hear or feel a light click – this confirms your coils are where they are supposed to be.

But be careful not to secure your tank too tight! If you over-tighten a tank, you might cross-thread it. When your tank is cross-threaded, the threads do not sit in their intended place. Just like a tank that is too loose, this creates a gap for your e-liquids to escape through.

3. ADJUST YOUR LIQUID AND COIL COMBINATION

Every vape kit is different. Depending on the output and power of each kit, they require different coil resistance levels.

Coils with a higher resistance (1.0ohm and above) produce less vapour but provide a stronger throat hit. These coils perform best when paired with 50:50 e-liquids or Nicotine Salts.

Coils with a lower resistance (1.0ohm and below) produce bigger vapour with a smoother throat hit. These coils perform best when paired with e-liquids with a higher VG content such as 30:70 e-liquids and Shortfills. Because of the vapour production, sub-ohm coils typically have large inlet holes. As high VG e-liquids are typically thicker than other e-liquids, they are the perfect option for sub-ohm vaping.

If you use a thinner vape juice with a low resistance coil, you run the risk of losing your e-liquid. 50:50 e-liquids and Nicotine Salts have a lower VG content and are much thinner in consistency. Thinner liquids may escape through the larger inlet holes, causing a sticky situation.

4. VAPE LIKE A VAPER

If your e-cig is leaking into your mouth, it’s possible that your draws are too short.

Although intended to be a safer alternative to smoking, vaping involves a different inhalation method. Since cigarettes are already hot when inhaling, smokers can take short puffs. Unlike smoking, vape kits only heat up as you inhale. As you inhale, your e-cigarette powers your coils to vaporise the e-juice.

If you aren’t inhaling for long enough, your vape kit may cause e-liquids to leak into your mouth, since you haven’t given them adequate time for the coil to turn them into vapour.

When vaping, try to inhale for longer to give your vape device more time to heat up and vaporise your e-liquid

5. USE HIGHER VG E-LIQUIDS

Like we mentioned earlier, higher VG e-liquids are typically thicker in consistency and are less likely to escape through the joints in your vape tanks. Since they are thicker, 30:70s and Shortfills will help you to avoid flooding your coil and prevent leaks.

6. REPLACE YOUR COILS

Coils are consumables that should be replaced often. While older coils are prone to burning, used coils can also become blocked. If your vape pen feels blocked, it’s likely that your coil is clogged with e-liquid residue. A blocked coil can no longer vaporise your liquids so you may experience leaking.

7. CLEAN THE CHIMNEY

Before they can be made into vapour, e-liquids must be heated. Warm vapour frequently causes condensation within your chimney. But when you have not inhaled for long enough, or your e-cigarette hasn’t heated enough, e-liquids can leak into your chimney and into your mouth.

By cleaning the chimney, you can get rid of any last e-liquid drops and continue vaping as normal.

8. FILL YOUR TANK PROPERLY

Many first-time vapers won’t ask how to fill their e-liquid tank. With just 2ml capacity, it seems pretty self-explanatory that it should be full of juice so that you don’t have to top up constantly.

But, if your tank is leaking, and you’re filling it right to the brim, this might just be the reason for it.

Your tank should not be complete full, but contain a small bubble of air at the top. The air bubble works as a vacuum to prevent e-liquids escaping through the airflow holes.

9. CHECK YOUR POWER SETTINGS

Vape kits with variable power settings should be adjusted to suit the installed coil and chosen e-liquid. All coils have optimal power ranges, and your vape kit’s power should be selected to suit this. If the power is too low for your coil, your vape kit won’t properly vaporise your vape juice and instead allow liquids to escape.

10. KEEP YOUR E-CIG UPRIGHT

Keep your tank upright wherever possible. In addition to making it easier to accumulate dirt and dust, storing an e-cigarette on its side can deplete your e-liquid by causing it to leak into unwanted places.

By storing your e-cig in a vertical position, you reduce the risk of damaging your vape device and wasting your precious e-juices.

“HELP! MY E-CIG TANK IS STILL LEAKING”

Most leaking vape kits are caused by general wear and tear and can be fixed with a touch of TLC. But if you’ve hardly used your vape kit and it develops a fault, don’t forget that most e-cig come with a limited warranty. Get in touch with the manufacturer for more information.

Japan’s Tobacco Harm Reduction Efforts Are Working

0

When compared to 2016, reported volumes of cigarettes have now declined by 42%.

A 2021 paper by Frost & Sullivan in collaboration with tobacco company Philip Morris International (PMI) titled, “Tobacco Harm Reduction and Novel Nicotine and Tobacco Products: Evidence from the Japanese Market,” found that the entry of HTPs has led to a drop of 34% in cigarettes sales.

“The commercial availability of HTPs in Japan is associated with a significant drop in conventional cigarette sales, well ahead of the previous rate of decline. Moreover, even after Heated Tobacco Products became available, sales of all tobacco products (Heated Tobacco Products and conventional cigarettes) continued to fall. Although there is mixed evidence, data from the 2019 National Health Survey indicates that 76% of consumers who use Heated Tobacco do so exclusively. Only 24% of HTPs users maintain dual-use,” said Mark Dougan, Consulting Director, Healthcare, Frost & Sullivan.

2021 data: Japan’s domestic cigarette sales had fallen by 8.2%

Similarly, Japan Tobacco International’s third-quarter results for 2021 showed that Japan’s domestic cigarette sales had fallen by 8.2% following an 8.9% decline in the preceding quarter.

Such a pattern had already been observed back in 2018, with the Financial Times reporting that Philip Morris’ heated tobacco product, IQOS, was laying waste to cigarette sales in Japan. According to the report, “shipments of traditional cigarettes” declined by more than 7% in 2018, which had followed an 11.5% decline in the first quarter of 2017. Meanwhile, shipments of “heated units” increased from 1.2 billion to 6.4 billion during the period, while during the quarter, nearly 9% of PMI’s’ global revenue was from reduced-risk products.

HTPs played a major role in reducing cigarette sales

When compared to 2016, reported volumes of cigarettes have now declined by 42%. An American Cancer Society research study in 2020 concluded that heated tobacco products “likely reduced cigarette sales in Japan.” Another 2020 study published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health came to a similar conclusion, stating that “the accelerated decline in cigarette-only sales since 2016 corresponds to the introduction and growth in the sales of heated tobacco products.”

Similar patterns have been observed in the UK and Sweden. The UK has achieved the lowest smoking rates ever recorded thanks to endorsing the use of vaping products for tobacco harm reduction and smoking cessation. While Sweden has reached a smoke-free statues by legalizing snus and embracing its use as a safer alternative to cigarettes.

Vaping calculation comparison with cigarette smoking • VAPE HK

0

Vaping has become a popular way to consume nicotine, especially among people who are trying to quit smoking cigarettes. There are many different ways to vape, including using an electronic cigarette, vape pen, e-juice, or vape cartridge. Vaping is a great alternative to smoking, and it’s also been shown to provide some health benefits.

Vaping is not without its risks, however. Nicotine is a highly addictive substance, and it can be harmful to your health. Inhaling nicotine can increase your heart rate and blood pressure, and it can also constrict your blood vessels. Here is the disposable vape dubai & vape dubai offering you the best risk free vaping products in dubai.

Vaping can also expose you to other harmful chemicals, including metals and chemicals that are used to flavor e-liquids. Some of these chemicals can be toxic.

Despite the risks, vaping is still much less harmful than smoking cigarettes. Cigarette smoking is the leading cause of preventable death in the United States, and it’s responsible for more than 480,000 deaths each year.

Cigarette smoking causes more than just lung cancer. It also increases your risk of developing other types of cancer, including cancer of the throat, mouth, pancreas, bladder, kidney, and cervix. Cigarette smoking also increases your risk of developing cardiovascular disease, stroke, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Smoking just one cigarette a day can increase your risk of developing cardiovascular disease by 30 percent.

If you’re a smoker, quitting is the best thing you can do for your health. Quitting smoking has immediate and long-term health benefits.

Within 20 minutes of quitting smoking, your blood pressure and heart rate will start to return to normal.

After 12 hours, the carbon monoxide levels in your blood will return to normal.

2 weeks to 3 months after quitting smoking, your circulation will improve and your lung function will increase.

1 to 9 months after quitting smoking, your coughing and shortness of breath will decrease.

1 year after quitting smoking, your risk of having a heart attack will be half that of a smoker’s.

5 years after quitting smoking, your risk of stroke will be reduced to that of a non-smoker’s.

10 years after quitting smoking, your risk of developing lung cancer will be cut in half.

15 years after quitting smoking, your risk of dying from cardiovascular disease will be the same as that of a non-smoker.

Quitting smoking is one of the best things you can do for your health. It’s never too late to start reaping the benefits of quitting.

If you’re thinking about quitting smoking, there are many resources available to help you. Your doctor can help you create a quitting plan, and there are also many quit-smoking programs and products available.

The bottom line is that vaping is much less harmful than smoking cigarettes. If you’re a smoker, quitting is the best thing you can do for your health.

Youth Vaping Hysteria: Fact or Fiction?

0

Another hot topic dominating national headlines at the moment is the raging youth vaping epidemic seemingly tearing its way across the country.

Everyday there appears to be yet another ‘shock horror’ news story, painting images of a nicotine-addicted child army ransacking parents’ bags and local stores in the hunt for the next hit.

Fearful mums, dads, teachers and a handful of health professionals are now on high alert, judging vaping less as an antidote to the UK’s smoking crisis and more a public health catastrophe in the making.

But is there any truth to the growing warnings, or is this yet another false alarm set to dismantle the harm reduction industry?

Unlike popcorn lung, there IS evidence that young people are accessing e-cigarettes.

Action on Smoking and Health revealed the number of ‘current users’ amongst 11 to 17-year-olds had almost doubled in two years.

And that’s the statistic that you’ve likely seen quoted in the recent onslaught of negative vaping stories…but that’s not the only thing the ASH report had to say.

The document highlighted that more than 80 percent of 11 to 17-year-olds had, in fact, ‘never tried or were unaware of e-cigarettes’.

It also suggested that regular vaping ‘remains rare’ amongst youngsters who’ve never smoked, with just 0.5 percent using them on a weekly basis.

Amazingly, not a single young vaper who’d never previously smoked said they were actually ‘addicted’ to e-cigarettes, with many saying they just wanted to ‘give them a try’…another seldom reported statistic.

Ultimately, the ASH report confirmed that, while ‘awareness of e-cigarettes is high’, regular use is still ‘very low’.

It said that vaping is largely confined to current or former smokers and use amongst young never smokers is ‘mostly experimental’.

Naturally, this creates a better image of the ‘child hooking’ vape industry than all those scare stories would have you believe…but make no mistake, as long as children are accessing e-cigarettes, there is an issue to address.

And it’s an issue that could spiral out of control if not handled correctly.

We’ve already seen a similar youth vaping moral panic ravage the US, leaving many brands struggling to stay afloat and many more wiped from the face of the earth.

The situation is so volatile that there are growing reports of young people being strip searched by school staff or brutalised by police for as little being suspected of carrying a vape device.

If the UK follows the American anti-vaping playbook, there’s a real chance that opinions of lifesaving e-cigarettes could be soured and we may well criminalise a community of ex-smokers just looking to take back their health.

Advocates and experts are now saying enforcement is the solution to the youth vaping problem and NOT blacklisting vaping as nothing more than a tool to addict kids.

To ‘find the right balance’ between helping smokers quit and bringing an end to youth vaping, the UKVIA has proposed a number of hard-line regulations that hold ‘unscrupulous’ retailers and distributors accountable.

The recommendations included a new licensing scheme and hefty £10,000 penalties for ‘rogue traders’ who flout UK law.

John Dunne of the UKVIA, said more is needed to bear down on those selling to minors and the industry, regulators and enforcement bodies must come together to keep vapes out of the wrong hands.

The UK Vaping Industry Association Director General said:

“Make no mistake, the issue of youth access to vaping sits firmly with unscrupulous traders who are happy to sell to children.

“To combat rising numbers of children vaping, the supply of vapes to the underaged has to be cut off at source.

“Together, these actions will help vaping fulfil the vital role that the recently published Khan review sees for the category in making smoking obsolete in the most responsible manner.”

To read more on the UKVIA’s ‘get tough’ measures, see the story ‘Why tough action & fines are needed to tackle youth access to vapes‘.

Vaping VS. Smoking: Which is Cheaper?

0

When smokers decide to switch from cigarettes to e-cigs, quite a number of reasons can be responsible. For example, some make the switch because of health factors, while others just want to take better care of themselves. However, the predominant reason for many is the long-term cost difference between vaping and smoking. There is a big difference between these two’s weekly and yearly cost estimates. So, if you aim to learn more about the difference, which option is cheaper, and why it is, this article is what you’ve looking for. Now, let’s start with cigarettes.

How Much Does Smoking Cigarettes Cost?

Have you ever sat down to calculate how much you spend on cigarettes per day, week, and year? You might just be in for a surprise. Now, the calculation is simple. Suppose we can tell the average amount of cigarettes a smoker takes in a day (say, a pack of 20 cigarettes). In that case, we can sum up how much money they averagely spend on smoking weekly and yearly.

Well, there are a few other factors to consider. First, the unit price of each pack varies since it largely depends on the cigarette brand. Therefore, in this instance, let’s consider the Marlboro brand to make an estimate.

Second, you should understand that your location/region could also affect the price of cigarettes, even for the same brand. For example, there are different prices for the same units of cigarettes in the US and the UK (for the same Marlboro brand). In the United States, the price of a pack of 20 Marlboro brand cigarettes costs $8. However, on the other hand, in the UK, it costs $13.73.

Now, this is the implication. If you smoke 20 Malboro cigarettes a day in the US, you will have spent $56 on smoking at the end of the week. And if you are in the UK, that will be about $96. For an entire year, you will be looking at $2,912 and $4,998 in the US and the UK, respectively, as the projected total amount spent on smoking. As said earlier, you just might be surprised.

Quick Views

Check out these quick stats on smoking all over the world. Do you know that:

  • 393,000 Americans die of smoking-related diseases every year?
  • In some US States, you can end up spending as much as $5,000 on cigarettes alone every year. Remember, your location affects the cost of smoking.
  • You canspend up to $2 million on smoking throughout your lifetime!
  • Over $96 billion in the United States healthcare expenditure is linked to smoking-related illnesses and costs.
  • Smoking can make you poor. An average smoker in the US earns about$3,306 less than a non-smoker.
  • Over a 15-year spread, a smoker is almost guaranteed to lose more than $105,000

These statistics show how smoking costs affect the life of the smoker directly. Therefore, as you may be aware, many smokers are finding a way to break free from smoking and look toward better options. And that’s where vaping comes in. Vaping provides this better alternative that smokers are yearning for.

So, how about vaping costs? How do you compare and contrast to see which option you would choose long-term? Below is a breakdown of vaping costs for you to make an informed choice.

How Much Does Vaping Cost?

Vaping, unlike smoking, avails you of a wide range of options. From preferred juice to the flavor, down to the vaping device itself, you have total control of the range you want to explore. And this significantly puts you in control of how much you eventually spend on vaping. For instance, to start vaping, you are expected and advised to start with beginner vapes.

These types of vapes (beginner vapes) are also referred to as disposables. And what this means is that they are for quick and one-time use. They function as pod systems, cigarlikes, AIOs (All In Ones), vape pens, and MTL tanks with small box mods (starter kits). And an amazing feature of vapes is that they can be very cheap.

The common price ranges for these beginner vapes are:

Disposable Vapes: $5 – $20

Pod Systems: $10 – $30

Vape Pens: $15 – $35

MTL Starter Kits: $30 – $60

The latest trend in vaping is the use of disposable vapes. Thus, we estimate people’s vaping experience using disposable vapes weekly and yearly.

Price of a Disposable Vape

As mentioned above, the prices for these disposable vapes vary based on the vaper’s preferences. However, we will estimate using a premium quality disposable vape with 1.7ml – 2ml pre-filled juice capacity. This type will potentially allow for about 200-300 puffs, depending on the length and frequency of draw of the vaper. And this disposable vape costs about $7. Note that the number of puffs that this disposable vape affords you is what roughly equates to a pack of 20 cigarettes.

For reference, an average smoker takes about 8-12 puffs on each cigarette. So, for the 20 cigarettes in a pack, that would be about 240 puffs per pack. And that still falls within the range of puffs these high-quality disposable vapes allow.

Thus, using a disposable vape would cost about $49 per week. And in a year, you will be looking at about $2,548. Wait a minute; here is something else you shouldn’t forget. If you rather went for a cheaper disposable vape, these total prices will be drastically reduced.

Here’s a chart to understand these price differences better.

 smoking cost

vaping cost

You can see that you will have saved about $364 per year in the US and about $2,450 per year in the UK, respectively.

Verdict: Vaping is Cheaper than Smoking

It is quite evident from the information above that vaping is cheaper compared to smoking, whether you live in the US or the UK. Now, the case may vary in different countries. For instance, a pack of 20 cigarettes in Vietnam will cost a tad less. Just about $1.21. However, in most cases, the cheaper option is the disposables.

Conclusion

Irrespective of your reason for choosing vaping, one thing stands for sure. You will enjoy an experience that is closely knitted to smoking, howbeit healthier. These disposable vapes set you on course for a consistent flavor to keep you on the right track to saving more money and leading a healthier life. Just as you intended!

The news on e-cigarette research may seem relentlessly bad

0

Bad news is like sex – it sells. A headline like the old East German classic “Half the harvest safely gathered in” was never going to make it onto front pages in the West, where readers had a choice over which paper to buy, or in post-Communist Germany. So perhaps it’s inevitable that scare stories about vaping greatly outnumber the positive ones in any significant sample of the world’s media.

And, of course, for every reasoned, careful and balanced report – and there a few of those out there – there are hundreds dashed off by journalists with no specialist knowledge but a desire to get the attention-grabbing headline in print quickly then on to the next story about something completely different. No specialist knowledge, and almost certainly no specialist science knowledge in particular. Sadly, not many scientists take up journalism as a career.

And sadly, it has to be said, not every scientist is as rigorous as they might be – those who write their press releases even less so.

So, among scientific “discoveries” that have received substantial media coverage during the past 12 months, we have seen:

  • Vaping can cause brain inflammation, and flavours affect the severity (if you’re a female mouse in a laboratory, but the headlines didn’t say that).
  • Vaping “doubles the risk of erectile dysfunction” – a natural headline-grabber, that one, but deeply unscientific, being based solely on survey responses to one leading question.
  • Vaping is a bigger stroke risk than smoking (oh no, it isn’t).
  • Vaping might increase the risk of broken bones – or not; the study actually found that former vapers were slightly more at risk than current vapers (which might just be because they’re a bit older…).
  • E-cigarettes are “linked” to teenage depression – even the Truth Initiative, which put this one out, had to admit: “It is unknown whether a causal relationship between nicotine and mental health conditions exists”. If there is one, who knows which leads to which?

We could go on. There are plenty more like that, some of which this blog has considered before. E-cigarettes are undoubtedly subject to some bad science and a lot of worse reporting.

But this particular list is interesting in another way too. Because, like many of the dubious reports themselves, it comes from a source that has been accused of starting with its conclusions already in place.

It’s a precis of a “master list of junk science” published this week by the American Council on Science and Health which is variously described as “a research and education organization” (itself); “an industry-funded group that works to undermine not only climate change science, but the health threats associated with controversial company products” (Greenpeace); or a body which “spins science and pitches its services to the chemical, tobacco, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries” (US Right to Know).

So who do you believe? As ever, you pays your money and you takes your choice. And remember it’s always worth asking the question: Who pays? (And just maybe: What else was going on, unreported, that East German harvest season?)

Vape Like a Pro – Dinner Lady

Expelling low amounts of vapour, stealth vaping is an apt name for this popular vaping style. Stealth vaping is inconspicuous and allows a great deal of privacy, making it ideal for those new to vaping or those needing to vape discreetly.

Though this may seem like a pointless feature to many experienced vapers, stealth vaping is loved by many new vapers who prefer a discreet vaping method. Huge amounts of vapour are not always welcome in public places – think cafes, restaurants, pubs, public transport, and other places where the space may be limited and contact with others is unavoidable.

Stealth vaping is also super easy. No special equipment is needed, meaning any adult vaper can get started with stealth vaping.

WHAT IS STEALTH VAPING?

Stealth: the quality of carrying an action out secretly, so that people do not know it is happening – Cambridge Dictionary

Stealth vaping is the act of vaping with minimal vapour production. It is ideal for vaping in places where vaping is frowned upon.

BEST WAY TO STEALTH VAPE

If you’re new to stealth vaping, you’re probably wondering exactly how to stealth vape. Stealth vaping can be achieved with any low-powered vape kit and e-liquids with high PG e-liquids such as 50:50s and Nic Salts.

BEST STEALTH VAPE KITS

Slim, portable and pocket-sized, the Smok Gram 25 has a variable airflow and variable output of up to 25W, making it an excellent choice for stealth vaping.

Small, lightweight and inhale-activated, the Innokin Endura M18 has a 10W power output that is ideal for minimal vapour production.

The Uwell Caliburn G is equally suited to stealth vaping. Like the Endura M18, the Caliburn G is a refillable pod kit that makes vaping simple and easy.

Likewide, Upends’ Uppen and Uppen Plus are ideal for vaping with minimal vapour. Low-powered pen-style kits with high resistance coils, the Uppen and Uppen Plus are great options for stealth vaping.

The Smok Gram 25, Innokin Endura M18, Uwell Caliburn G, Uppen and Uppen Plus are some of the very best refillable stealth vape devices that are ideal for vaping discreetly when on-the-go.

BEST E-LIQUIDS FOR STEALTH VAPING

Most vapers recommend a high PG for stealth vaping. This is because high VG e-liquids like 30:70s and Shortfills are thicker in consistency, making serious clouds. Since cloud production is exactly what stealth vapers want to avoid, e-liquids with a lower VG content are best-suited to this vaping style.

E-liquids like Dinner Lady’s 50:50s and Nic Salts both have an even measure of Propylene Glycol (PG) and Vegetable Glycerin (VG). Since vapour production is kept to a minimum, these e-liquids are excellent choices for stealth vaping.

WHY STEALTH VAPE?

Stealth vaping provides great taste without the intense clouds. It is discreet and most like smoking a traditional e-cigarette.

Whether you’re a new or existing vaper, stealth vaping has plenty of benefits. For new vapers, it can help to deter unwanted attention while switching to a less harmful alternative to cigarettes. For existing vapers who like sub-ohm vaping on occasion and mouth-to-lung (MTL) vaping at other times, stealth vapes can give vapers the convenience of a smaller vape kit that works well on the go.

Vaping advocates sign Manila Declaration • VAPE HK

0

Leading Tobacco Harm Reduction (THR) advocates from around the world have signed and released ‘The Manila Declaration 2022’.

The declaration aims to provide information and evidence that has not been included in any guidance provided by the World Health Organization (WHO) to signatories and delegates of the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) on safer nicotine products.

With only one year to go until COP10, the signatories demand the WHO FCTC and its country delegates follow the science and evidence around THR.

The Manila Declaration makes clear that consumers continue to be marginalised, ignored, denigrated, and attacked, with their choices restricted and rights denied, negatively impacting their health and lives.

It states that safer nicotine product consumers, and those currently smoking, ought to be the principal beneficiaries of enlightened, science-based regulatory frameworks, allowing them to access life-saving technologies.

The signatories declare that: ‘An individual’s right to health is recognised as a fundamental human right; Smoking causes the vast majority of tobacco-related death and disease; Vaping is dramatically safer than cigarettes and has helped millions quit smoking; Harm reduction is at the core of international treaty obligations; Bans serve only to protect the cigarette industry; and that public health and governments’ credibility is at stake’.

It concludes that ‘it is criminal to allow a product that is known to kill people with certainty to be sold liberally on the free market, and ban or restrict safer alternatives for adults who smoke.’

In November 2023, Panama will host WHO’s 10th FCTC Conference of Parties (COP10). The key global meeting will see delegates discuss and make recommendations on safer nicotine products.

The Manila Declaration was signed and released after the Fifth Asia Harm Reduction Forum (AHRF 2022) on 28 October in the Philippines. To view it, visit: https://caphraorg.net/wp-content/uploads/pdfs/manila-declaration-2022-signed.pdf

“Advocates are more determined than ever to ensure the proven THR approach to tobacco control is adopted by more countries. The Philippines has recently lifted its vaping ban and other Asian countries are set to follow, but we’ve got to keep the pressure on. Cigarettes cannot win,” says Nancy Loucas,Executive Coordinator of CAPHRA (Coalition of Asia Pacific Tobacco Harm Reduction Advocates).

Nearly eight hours of forum footage is now available on the AHRF 2022 YouTube channel at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6o1hXi4aAak

About AHRF 2022

How Long Does Nicotine Remain in Your System?

0

Nicotine is the chemical that gives you a rush when you smoke a cigarette, take a puff from a nicotine vape, or consume nicotine products. Unfortunately, it’s widely regarded as an extremely addictive chemical, as evidenced by a large number of smokers around the world.

When lab technicians test for nicotine use in subjects, they look for a chemical metabolite called nicotine. Nicotine is the product that results from the process of breaking down nicotine in the body, which is why it’s used to test whether someone has recently consumed nicotine.

Here’s everything you should be aware of with how long nicotine stays in your system:

How Long Does Nicotine Remain in Your Blood?

When a lab technician takes a nicotine test, they will generally test your urine, blood, saliva, or hair follicles. These are the main places where nicotine can be found; however, they will gauge different results on a lab test depending on how long ago you ingested a nicotine product:

Nicotine product in your urine should stop being detectable after 3 to 4 days of tobacco product use. This means that while nicotine leaves your blood from 1 to 3 days after use, its nicotine product will linger in the urine for an extended period of time.

  • Nicotine in Your Blood and Saliva

Nicotine won’t be detectable from up to 3 days after use when blood is tested. On the other hand, saliva drug tests for nicotine have a window of up to 48 hours since the last nicotine use, which gives them a shorter time period for detection than blood.

  • Nicotine in Your Hair Follicles

Surprisingly, testing their hair follicles is the best way to detect whether someone has ingested nicotine. While results do depend on the hair test and genetic factors, it can take years since your last nicotine use to stop being traceable in hair. While a year is a rare window of time for hair follicle tests, it’s common for nicotine traces to be picked up for weeks and months after your last exposure.

Smoking vs. Vaping

Nicotine tests aren’t just limited to tobacco products like cigarettes – you can also use them to determine whether you have used an e-cigarette or vaped with nicotine in the past few days.

However, the amount of nicotine you’ve ingested is essential when it comes to tracing it through a test, and this is where vaping often differs from smoking in its response to nicotine tests.

Since vaping is primarily a new phenomenon, little research has been done to determine the accuracy of its nicotine contents. Unfortunately, this puts into question the accuracy of nicotine tests when they pertain to vaping. This is because the advertised nicotine contents are often inaccurate and don’t reflect the true amount of nicotine you will consume.

Hypothetically, the same amount of nicotine ingested with both a cigarette and a vape should yield the same results on a nicotine ingestion test. It seems that recent scientific evidence is in support of the fact that vaping will cause nicotine to stay in the body for the same amount of time as tobacco products.

What Factors Affect How Much Time Nicotine Stays in Your System?

You may have noted that there is not an exact measurement for how long nicotine stays in your system for any test, whether it be hair follicles, saliva, blood, or urine. The best we can present is an average range because several factors affect the amount of time nicotine will stay in your body.

The first and most obvious element is your frequency of use – someone who tried nicotine once is likely to stop showing traces of nicotine within a couple of days. However, an ex-chain smoker who has just quit may be looking at a much higher time. It can be said that regular smokers might have detectable levels of nicotine in their urine for up to 20 days, which is much longer than the 3-day average for a less seasoned smoker.

Medications you take may also play a role in how long nicotine stays in your system – for instance, antipsychotics and antidepressants are known to interact with nicotine which may increase the amount of time nicotine levels are detectable.

Other important factors which influence the speed in which nicotine leaves your body include your diet and age, as well as genetics. The lesson here is that there is no catch-all number of days that nicotine will stay in your system as there are plenty of factors to consider.

How to Clear Nicotine From Your Body

If you’re looking to clear nicotine from your body, there are a few steps you can take:

  • Stay Hydrated – by consuming lots of water, you will be able to remove nicotine and nicotinefrom your body through urine quickly.
  • Nutritious Diet – Eating healthy foods with plenty of antioxidants is known to quicken the process of nicotine removal.
  • Exercise – Regular exercise will improve your metabolism rate – this will mean nicotine is processed much faster in those who get regular physical activity.

Nicotine Withdrawal Symptoms

Once nicotine has cleared out of your body, you may begin to feel withdrawal symptoms. This is completely normal for any regular smoker taking a break and can manifest in physical and mental ways.

Physical symptoms include an increased appetite, cravings for nicotine, a cough, headaches, fatigue, and constipation. Non-physical symptoms include anxiety, depression, irritability, and mental fog. If you’re experiencing any of these after your last cigarette or tobacco product, you are experiencing the natural withdrawal symptoms of nicotine leaving your body.

Physical symptoms such as cravings usually occur in the 10-hour to the 2-day range of quitting tobacco products, as they are a result of the nicotine still being in your body. Headaches occur because of the energy taken for nicotine to leave your system.

Non-physical symptoms tend to occur once the nicotine has left your body, as your mind may want you to receive a release. This is why anxiety is common within a few days of quitting cigarettes. However, by making it to the 2 to 4-week point of stopping tobacco products, you should find that symptoms such as brain fog, poor appetite control, coughing, depression, and anxiety will begin to cease since your body and your mind no longer crave nicotine product.

Tobacco, Nicotine, and Your Health

If this article shows anything, it’s that smoking a cigarette or tobacco product does not end when the product is finished. You may think the nicotine has stopped taking effect when that buzz dissipates, but this is far from the case. In the act of smoking, your body begins to absorb chemicals that it has to work very hard to clear out.

It may be the case that nicotine doesn’t stay in your body as long as other recreational drugs. However, the chemicals it produces in the process of breaking down can last in your system for weeks. Therefore, the more consistently you consume tobacco and nicotine products, the more traces of nicotine and metabolites will be found in your organs, possibly up to months after you quit.
