Netherlands set to ban flavoured e-liquid

Share

The Dutch government is planning to ban all flavoured vape products, according to a parliament briefing.

It will also bring e-cigarettes under current anti-smoking legislation from July 1.

Staff and parents will also be prohibited from smoking in school playground from the start of the new academic year on October 1.

The measures outlined in the briefing are aimed at making smoking less attractive to young people.

Research conducted earlier this year by Trimbos addiction clinic found that 27 percent of 12 to 16-year-olds had tried e-cigarettes.

The institute said that the low cost of e-cigarettes and variety of flavours were attracting youngsters to tobacco.

Junior health minister Paul Blokhuis said:

“These new insights confirm that the smoke-free generation we are working towards must also be an e-cigarette free generation.”

The proposed flavour ban will be of great concern to the European vape industry as it climbs out of lockdown.

America’s federal and state flavour bans have hit the industry hard, leading many people with no choice but to return to tobacco.
