30,000 Canadians Oppose Flavour Ban on Vapour Products

Share

Amid concerns of a looming public health crisis, Canada’s Health Minister, Mark Holland, announced plans in March to push through regulations to ban all flavoured vapour products except for mint, menthol, and tobacco. However, a significant number of Canadian vapers and their advocates are voicing their opposition.

Responding to the Flavour Ban

Rights4Vapers, Canada’s largest vapers’ rights group, led by spokesperson Maria Papaioannoy, is championing the cause against the flavour ban. “If the flavour ban is enforced, flavours will still be available in Canada—unregulated, unsafe, and untaxed. This could lead former smokers back to harmful tobacco products, while empowering the black market,” Papaioannoy explained.

Public Reaction and Government Actions

Despite the initial proposal of the flavour ban three years ago, over 20,000 Canadians participated in a public consultation and opposed the ban, halting its progress. However, the recent move to revive these regulations without adequate public consultation has sparked controversy. “The only consultation was a few Zoom meetings with industry representatives, where Rights4Vapers was the sole voice for Canadian vapers,” stated Papaioannoy.

The Importance of Flavoured Vapour Products

Flavours play a vital role in helping smokers transition to vaping, offering a less harmful alternative to combustible tobacco products. The narrative surrounding flavoured vapour products is not just about preference but about public health and harm reduction.

Looking Forward

Rights4Vapers continues to fight for the rights of Canadian vapers, urging policymakers to consider the consequences of a flavour ban. The group invites everyone to join them on May 8 to learn more and support the cause.
