How to safely Dispose of Disposable Vapes – Dinner Lady

Share

Simple and convenient to use, disposable e-cigarettes are one of the most popular options that ex-smokers choose on their journey to becoming smoke-free. Yet disposable e-cig waste has an enormous environmental impact with an estimated 3 million disposable vapes thrown away in the UK each week.

With disposable vapes accounting for more than 22 football pitches of waste every year, it’s time for the vaping industry to reduce its environmental impact.

Understanding Disposable E-Cigs

Disposable vapes contain metals, plastics and lithium batteries that can take thousands of years to decompose – not to mention the serious fire hazards they pose when disposed of incorrectly.

Classed as Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), disposable e-cigarettes are not biodegradable and should be disposed of at household recycling centres – not in general waste bins. By recycling disposable e-cigs, vapers help to limit pollution, reduce landfill waste and protect the environment.

Recycle with Dinner Lady

Dinner Lady firmly believes that disposing of used e-cigarettes shouldn’t be complicated, costly, or harmful to the planet.

As a vape retailer and Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) producer, it’s our duty to minimize the severe effects of e-waste and to eliminate the stress of e-cig disposal for vapers. Working with our NHS and FMCG partners, we’re on a mission to collect as many disposables as possible to do our part in protecting the environment by treating these products.

What does “treatment” consist of and are disposables actually recyclable?

The Dinner Lady Disposable Vape Pen and Vape Pen Pro are composed of materials such as aluminium metals which are 100% recyclable. The parts that are not recyclable – such as the battery, plastic and cotton – are incinerated to convert waste to energy.

Here is how each component of a Dinner Lady Disposable Vape is treated:

Aluminium                          Smelted. 100% Recycled
Lithium Batteries                Metal Recovery. 100% Recycled
Components                      100% Recovery
Plastic & Rubber                100% Recovery (Waste to Energy)
Cotton & Liquid                  100% Recovery (Waste to Energy)
