Vaping additive blamed for outbreak produces ‘exceptionally toxic’ byproducts
UK 2nd In Anti-Smoking Policy Global Index!
The “Effective Anti-Smoking Policies Global Index” has been published by We are Innovation which ranks countries according to their policies regarding reducing smoking and tobacco alternatives.
There are lots of different rankings according to the following criteria…
Promoting tobacco harm reduction
Also there is a ranking for overall scores.
The UK came second following Switzerland who grabbed the top ranking. Australia sadly was ranked the worst.
You can download the full 240 page document here.
Breaking it down into the different categories the UK was ranked as follows…
UK was ranked top for Vape product values and heated tobacco product values.
The UK scored lower in the Nicotine Pouch values.
We got the lowest score in the Snus category as it is banned.
A summary is provided for each country and according to the report…
“The United Kingdom (taking England as a reference) maintains a very good global score and the best at regional level, standing out for having very good policies on vaping, with authorities that recommend its use, but it does not achieve the first place due to its policies on other products.”
The issues mentioned above are the fact that Snus is banned and that vaping is restricted to TPD regulations.
I am very pleased to see the UK as the second leading country when it comes to vaping and Heat Not Burn (heated tobacco) products, but this report does highlight some weaknesses when it comes to Tobacco Harm Reduction.

Does Vape Juice Expire-How Long Does E-Liquid Last
Have you ever wondered, does e-liquid expire? E-cigarettes are rapidly becoming a more popular product, especially considering the huge number of products on offer in today’s market. Still, it’s important to keep in mind the best practices for using them. Fortunately, our experts are on hand today to help you find out a little more about whether or not e-liquids expire – and how you can manage your e-liquid to get the best from it.
Does Vape Juice Expire?
One question that many people find themselves wondering is, does e-liquid expire? Often, when we think about vape liquid, we don’t usually consider the potential for it to expire. However, it is important to ensure you know the different factors influencing whether or not your e-liquid is likely to expire.
First of all, we should clarify here that all vape liquid and e-liquid products will have an expiry date. So, if you have been asking, “can e-liquid expire,” the simple answer is yes. However, it is highly important to consider that there are numerous factors impacting your e-liquid’s shelf life.
How Long Does E-Liquid Last Before it Reaches its Expiry Date?
There’s no specific duration for how long it can take for an e-liquid to expire. However, typically, the longest possible lifespan for a vape liquid is around two years from the date of manufacture. After this point, your e-liquid may begin to turn bad, and we would generally recommend not using expired e-liquids if you want the best experience.
Generally speaking, the two most important factors to consider when deciding how long your e-liquid should last is to determine whether it’s a PG or VG variety. But how does this impact how soon your e-liquid can expire?
How Long Does PG E-Liquid Last?
Firstly, let’s consider PG (propylene glycol) based e-liquids. These products may last a little longer than other options on the market, but you will need to handle and store the e-liquid with care to make the most of it.
How Long Does VG E-Juice Last?
Generally speaking, VG e-liquids (vegetable glycerine) don’t have quite such an impressive shelf life. With that being said, it still offers a long-term lifespan, and the difference between PG and VG e-liquids may be barely noticeable if nicotine is also included.
How Long Will My E-Liquid Last Once It’s Been Opened?
Your e-liquid should usually last around one to two years in total, if stored in a cool, dark location. However, opening your e-liquid will expose the contents to air, allowing it to oxidize. As such, you will often begin to notice signs of oxidation relatively quickly. The most common sign of this is a change in color of the e-liquid itself.
5 Common Signs Your E-Liquid or Vape Juice is About to Expire
At this point, we’ve clarified the likely time that your e-liquid should last. But how can you tell when your e-liquid or vape liquid is likely to expire? Well, the following five signs may be excellent things to watch out for when using a vape liquid that you’re not quite sure will last much longer. It’s a simple check to determine whether your e-liquid is still in top condition or not.
1. Separating Ingredients
Did you know that when your e-liquid reaches its shelf life, its ingredients may begin to separate? Of course, shaking the e-liquid up may help recombine the materials. Nevertheless, this may be one of the first signs that you need to replace your e-liquid for the best results.
2. Unpleasant Scents/Flavors
Don’t let your e-liquid spoil – it’ll ruin your vaping experience! Indeed, many people don’t realize (until it’s too late) that an expired e-liquid will often come with unpleasant smells or flavors. This can severely limit your enjoyment of vaping – giving further incentive to use your e-liquid before its shelf life expires.
3. Changing Color
In addition to unpleasant smells and flavors, your e-liquid may also change color when it nears its expiry date. As such, keep a close eye on your vape liquid’s color; if it starts to change color, it may be close to expiring. This is especially common if your chosen e-liquid contains high levels of nicotine. During exposure to the air, oxidation processes darken the mixture, giving it a distinctive color overall.
4. Changed Texture
When it comes to your e-juice, you likely recognize its typical properties and texture. With this thought in mind, if you notice that your e-juice’s texture has become thicker or thinner than normal, this might indicate that it’s starting to expire. Don’t panic, though; this might seem like a drastic change, but it’s not something to be overly worried about.
5. Reduced Nicotine Levels
Is it Safe to Use Expired E-Liquids?
Are expired e-liquids safe to use? Many people panic about using an e-liquid past its expiry date. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that your e-liquid will become toxic. However, if you notice significant changes in your e-liquid, we always recommend that you avoid using it, just to be safe.
How Should I Store my Vape Juice to Delay Expiration?
If you’d like to extend your e-liquid shelf life goals as much as possible, try to keep your e-liquid in a cool, dark location. This will help reduce the risk of your e-liquid expiring as quickly while limiting oxidation. However, once your e-liquid is open, the rate of expiration and degradation may speed up.
If you’ve been looking to find out more about whether vape liquid can expire, it’s important to be aware of the different factors influencing this. Indeed, no matter your preference for e-liquid flavor, it’s important to consider its likely e-liquid shelf life.
Fortunately, while most e-liquid will have a time when it goes past its expiry date, this usually doesn’t happen for around two years after the manufacture of the product. So, you should have plenty of options to consider as part of your decision.

UAE Doctors Raise Concern About Teen Vaping Quoting Recent Study
Besides being widely criticized unreliable and biased work, in recent years Glantz was even accused of sexual harassment and racist abuse.
Titled, “Nicotine Addiction and Intensity of e-Cigarette Use by Adolescents in the US, 2014 to 2021, the study in question reported that between 2014 and 2017, less than 1% of vapers reported using their devices within five minutes of waking up, while by 2021, the figure had drastically increased to 10.3%.
Aside from quoting this study, UAE doctor Dr Harkirat S. Wilkhoo, health and lifestyle Coach at RAK Hospital, said that most teens vape as a result of peer pressure, a claim which has indeed been backed by science. However he went on to make some inaccurate statements about the risk levels of the products. “E- cigarettes are not at all cool. It gives the pleasure of euphoria, but they are very harmful as they have heavy metals and carcinogenic chemicals which are absorbed directly into deep lung tissue,” Dr Harkirat said.
Are this study reliable?
Meanwhile back in 2020, lead author of the study above Dr. Stanton Glantz, who is notorious for his anti-vape bias and his flawed studies, retired from the University of California-San Francisco (UCSF) without warning and/or explanation.
A tweet about the surprise resignation by Gregory Conley from the American Vape Association, had pointed out that this move came only six months after his infamous paper linking vaping to heart attacks was retracted. “Six months after a paper he wrote falsely linking vaping to heart attacks was retracted by its publishing journal, it appears that Stanton Glantz has retired from UCSF,” he tweeted.
Flawed and biased studies
The study in question was published in June 2019, by the Journal of the American Heart Association. Following a number of alerts by fellow academics, the journal pointed out that the study had failed to specify what came first, the vaping or the heart attacks. When asked to provide further data to determine the direction of this relationship, Glantz and his team failed to do so, leading to the retraction of the study.
UCSF’s Center for Tobacco Control Research and Education, from whence Glantz resigned, has in recent years received a total of $40 million in grants, in order to conduct studies on the effects of vaping.
Glantz sued for racist & sexist abuse

Why Does My Vape Taste Burnt – Vape Guide | Disposable Vapes
by Alan Johnson
Nov 29, 2022
Of course, vapes are designed to help you have a nice time. But then, it’s possible to experience a displeasing taste, such as an unexpected burnt flavor, during your vaping sessions. And this can be quite upsetting. Imagine. Instead of enjoying a seamless flow of hits, you are met with a nasty burnt taste as you take each draw. You will likely start thinking that the vape you got is low quality. And frustration may just naturally set in. We understand this, and we are here to help you navigate an episode like this.
First, there are a couple of reasons for this burnt taste that coasts vape puffs. And some of them are explained below.
Reasons Why Your Disposable Vape Tastes Burnt
A major reason you might have experienced a burnt taste while vaping is dry hits. This happens particularly when there are not enough e-liquids that fully soak in the cotton wick. Thus, when you draw on the vape, the coil in the device burns the dry cotton, which naturally brings out the dry hit.
Burnt hits occur when the wick in the vaping device has completely burnt. It is usually a by-product of consistent vaping, even after hitting a dry hit. A feature of this kind of hit is that the mouth is full of vapor with a burnt flavor. The interesting thing about this hit is that it could result from a faulty vape. Thus, if the vape is malfunctioning, it could trigger the coil to work in the wrong way. And that could cause a dry effect on the cotton wick, which then makes it begin to burn.
You should note that this can be common to many vapes. And it can also be avoided. So, a burnt flavor is a knock away when proper attention is not paid to your vape’s e-liquid level and quantity.
Though getting a burnt vape flavor is possible, it is not a normal occurrence. If you pay attention to details in your vaping habits, you will most likely avoid such a burnt taste. Let’s take a look at some major ways to avoid burnt tastes when vaping.
How to Avoid Burnt Tastes When Vaping
Checking your vape juice level seems like a basic thing to do. However, it can save you a whole lot of stress. You can pick when the level is too low for an intense puffing session by keeping an eye on the vape juice level. And that would signal to you when it is time to refill your vape or get a new one altogether to get the premium and seamless vaping experience you so desire and deserve.
Other Common Problems with Disposable Vapes
If you own a disposable vape, you might encounter challenges in your vaping journey. However, most of them are resolvable. Some of the other common problems with disposable vapes include:
The idea of hitting while vaping is a sensational feeling that comes with the inhalation of vape puffs. It is simply the pleasure gotten from the act of vaping itself. Thus, not hitting would mean you’re denied such a pleasurable sensation when you take draws from your disposable vape. And this is not a natural phenomenon for most people with vaping. At the same time, it can be borne out of many different reasons. Some include malfunctioning devices, less nicotine than you require, etc.
This has been a cause of worry for many owners of disposable vapes. When your vape blinks, it could result from various factors. However, some of them might not necessarily signal that the vaping device is faulty or needs to be changed. Lights blinking could also suggest a low battery, low e-liquids quantity, temperature change, etc. (Check out our article on this theme).
You might be faced with a situation where your vape has less flavor than desired. And that could be because your e-juice is too heavy or because there is poor airflow in the vaping device. Also, it might be a result of a wrong mouthpiece, a blocked and flooded tank, or worn-out coils in the vape.
Why Does My Vape Taste Burnt – Conclusion
As a vaper, there are other problems that are peculiar to vaping that you might encounter. These include a leaking tank, getting a dry throat, gurgling noises, low nicotine hits, and so on.
Now, wrapping up, if you are looking to reduce the burnt flavor taste in your vaping experience, it’s important first to acknowledge its possibility, so you are not caught unawares. And the best way to go about it is by applying some of the solutions we have highlighted for you above. We wish you a great vaping experience!
Study: Australia’s Vape Policy is Slowing Decline in Smoking Rates
Smoking consumption and smoking rates in young adults declined faster after vaping became available.
Titled, “Impact of vaping introduction on cigarette smoking in six jurisdictions with varied regulatory approaches to vaping: an interrupted time series analysis,” the study analyzed smoking rates and cigarette consumption in 6 jurisdictions with different regulatory environments for vaping: Alberta, Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia (in Canada), UK and Australia.
Of these Australia has the harshest vape regulations and subsequently the lowest vaping rates. However it also has one of the lowest rates of progress with regards to declining smoking rates.
In a post on his blog page, Tobacco Treatment expert Dr. Colin Mendelsohn said that this study indicates once again that in Canada and the UK, smoking consumption and smoking rates in young adults declined faster after vaping became available.
“However in Australia, the decline in cigarette consumption by adult smokers has slowed and the decline in smoking rates in young adults has also slowed after vaping became available.”
“Australia has the harshest vaping regulations in the western world based on misguided concerns that vaping could lead young people who would otherwise not take up smoking to smoke. However this is perversely preventing adults from accessing a life-saving alternative and leading to more smoking-related deaths and illnesses,” added Mendelsohn.
The effectivity of vaping for smoking cessation
In line with data from across the globe, a 2019 study published in the journal Addiction, had confirmed that vaping helped Australian smokers quit smoking. Titled, “Effect of vaping on past-year smoking cessation success of Australians in 2019 – evidence from a national survey,” the study included 1,601 smokers and has found that using e-cigarettes to quit smoking increased the odds of success by 68%-124% compared to not vaping, indicating once again that vaping is more effective in helping smokers quit.
Interestingly, the best results were observed in vapers who obtained e-liquids from foreign websites. While another curious finding revealed that using a smartphone app in combination with vaping, increased the odds of quitting by 74% compared to not using an app.
