Videos appearing to show the new Xbox Series X console overheating and ‘smoking’ have gone viral
While there are only two videos so far, they have been shared a number of times across social media including Twitter and Reddit, prompting concern from Xbox owners that the devices could potentially be faulty.
Although some were suspicious that the ‘smoke’ looked very similar to vape clouds rising from the top of the console.
A gaming news account decided to test the theory by blowing vapour into the bottom of the device for it then to be sucked up and released out the top.
The creators of the original video claimed their footage was real as the console was switched off at the time. But the video from Xbox Studio shows that air is still cycled through after the power light has gone off.
The official Xbox Twitter account tweeted:
“We can’t believe we have to say this but, please do not blow vape smoke into your Xbox Series X.”
The tweet was liked more than 342,000 times with more than 78,000 retweets.
Xbox Studio tweeted in response:
“TIRED of the FAKE NEWS. I leave you a MIO video explaining why the “Burned” console is Fake and how they have achieved this effect even with the console “OFF”.
The console which costs £450 was released on November 10.
